Black Mesa Catch-All - IT'S REAL!

I thought it was being released on Steam through Greenlight? Will it just show up on the store like everything else?

Yes it will show up in Steam but not for at least a week.

I guess I know what I'll be doing tonight.

thanks!

Here's a torrent link with updated trackers: http://www.mediafire.com/?khmzyygg4vetko0

I can't believe after ALL these years there is a Black Mesa icon sitting on my desktop. I never played the original Half Life 1 or 2 and got the urge to play Half Life 1 back in 08-09, but I decided to wait because well...Black Mesa was supposedly coming very soon.

I played the HL1 last year for the first time. I'm still excited to play Black Mesa.

It felt like playing HL1 for the first time again. Really neat.

Downloading

Welp... there goes my weekend.

Just got to "On a Rail" and I have to say that this game is exceptional for a mod and is most certainly a worthy remake of Half-Life. I would say that the biggest deficiency is the music. The first one had quite a few good moments where the music would kick in. BM doesn't do that as much and when they do it doesn't really work. That's a really minor complaint though and this is a really good game. I prefer the gameplay here over HL2, just like with HL1.

I'll be curious to see how people who never played HL react to it.
Also, it better have Snarks or I'll take away everything nice I've said about it so far.

`` `But oh, beamish nephew, beware of the day,
If your Snark be a Boojum! For then
You will softly and suddenly vanish away,
And never be met with again!'

Well, I actually can't vouch for Boojum, but the game most assuredly has Snarks

Downloading from the torrent now. Definitely the fastest way to go. I can't wait to relive HL1 and it's been so long (2004?!) since I first heard about the mod. I am glad it actually became a reality.

Edit:It's awesome!

I've never played Half Life 1, I decided as soon as I heard about this mod and played through Half Life 2 that I'd wait for this mod.

I'm not disappointed in the least. This has to be one of the best quality mods that I've played so far.

Want it. Right now.

Valve seriously, buy these guys up, give them jobs and release this for $20. Many will buy it.

EDIT: hm nvm lol

wow this thread is old isn't it?

Oh man, you guys, remember how great a series Half-Life is? How I've missed it so. Thank you, Black Mesa Mod Team.

This actually looks surprisingly good for a mod. Graphics look great and some textures are really well done. Voice acting is actually pretty decent most of the time, and some of the additional surprises and statements are pretty clever. The new music actually perfectly hits the mix of being true to the original soundtrack while being fresh all the same. The occasional change in level design or mechanics are really well done modernizations that are appreciated. (Note: The game is not bugged, they did change when you get the crowbar.) There are some nice touches to the effects, like the fact that a flaming combine sometimes sets off the sprinkler system. The only big minus is that the jumping feels kind of off. It truly feels like a labour of love applied to a classic.

In summary, this crow tastes delicious.

I played it for the first time a few years ago. I didn't care for it. I'm looking forward to seeing if this, as an update, helps me see what I missed when I played the actual game.

The little changes really sell it. Its a very well done mix of old and new.

This downloaded overnight for me, and it seems to be installed and ready to rumble. I should get a chance to play some of it tonight. I haven't played the Half Life since sometime in 1999, so I'm curious to see how much I remember and how much seems new.

I could be wrong. Was Eli Vance in the 1999 version? I think they added him to this mod at the beginning of the game.

I don't think any characters (beyond Freeman/G-man) really had an identity in HL, at least originally. Valve have said they had certain scientists in mind when they made the characters for HL2, and Magnussun was 'added' when they did episode 2.

Wondered if Puce might drop in here. I thought of you:

He was, but more that he was the "generic Black scientist" in Half-Life 1 and Valve gave him character afterwards, and retroactively made it so that was him in the first game. Kind of like how Barney is in Half Life 1 but looks and sounds like every other security guard in the game.

Wasn't Barney specifically introduced in Blue Shift?

Not sure if he was named in HL1, but yeah, he was the protagonist in Blue Shift.

Junk!

I remember the outdoors sequences being hard, but I didn't remember the first one being quite so severe. Good ole quicksave!

What's the deal with the aiming reticle being so ugly? IIRC, you could mod the aiming reticle in HL2 to be something else. Anyone have a quick tutorial link on how to do that?

Spoiler:

Aaaaaw man! You cut the pony tail! ......sellout.

Very impressed by the dialogue & voice acting. Better than the original game I would have to say. (And they got Kleiner pretty spot-on).
