Here's some new (?!?!) pictures.

I believe it's going to be released with Episode 3.

So never?

I still hope that this mod eventually sees the light of day. I love the original Half-Life, but man is it butt ugly.

By the time they finish, it's going to look outdated again.

I think this recent spattering of screenshots and begging people to like them on facebook was summed up by Podunk on the first page of this thread FOUR FRIGGING YEARS AGO!

The mod has been basically declared DOA a couple of times since its inception four years ago, only to be dragged back out of the grave every 12-18 months for a media update.

Official Black Mesa swag has now appeared on Valve's store. That's a promising sign.

... Black Mesa is where the original game took place. This swag is entirely unrelated to the Black Mesa mod.

Yeah, I think most of that stuff has been there for a while.

Well, they've just added decal kits, pint glasses, a t-shirt and two hoodies, as indicated by the "NEW" badges. I think they're more related to a possible HL2:Ep3 or HL3 announcement than Black Mesa though. It's certainly possible that their announcement will be that Valve hired the Black Mesa team and helped them finish it. It'd be somewhat disappointing, but only like finding out that instead of winning a jackpot you only won a million dollars.

It's also possible people just wanted a Black Mesa pint glass to go with their set of Ap. Sci. glasses too

Please tell me the Black Mesa mugs are just slightly better in some way.

You never know! For Valve to create a whole new line of merchandise, that shares the same name AND logo of the mod, and not pair it with a release/update would be silly. Not to mention, that'd a kick in the teeth to the mod's devs.

I'm willing to bet that Valve has recently been tapped as a silent partner on this. I'd be in the best interest of both sides to collaborate in some capacity or another. (hence the new swag)

They didn't create a new line of merchandise, though. That exact same image has been sold on mugs and t-shirts in the store for years. They just added it to pint glasses.

I'm pretty sure the BM developers have repeatedly denied any Valve involvement besides asking them to remove 'Source' from the name.

Ahh, you're right. Thanks for pointing that out. So, yes NSMike, this swag is entirely unrelated to the Black Mesa mod!
/deflated

But, guys! What if this IS related to the Black Mesa Source mod?

I mean, it could be a double double triple quintuple bluff, pull-away, slip-up, ARG-reveal by Valve! They're tricksy like that!!

Spoiler:

Not meaning to take the mickey out of anyone in particular here but just couldn't help myself - there's plenty of "them" out there on the internet!

Valve hired them to take Black Mesa: Source back, and turn it into Half-Life 3. Gordon goes back in time to steer his younger self around the Black Mesa facility, dressed in a spiffy grey suit and contact lenses, while fighting nastier enemies behind the scenes than original Gordon had to face in Half-Life 1.

Spoiler:

Gordon is G-man!

Actually... that would be a pretty interesting twist.... if they looked anything alike!

No, you see, Gordon buys a razor, and get this, shaves his beard.... in the future.

Oh man, I saw some action in this thread and thought there was news on the mod.

So are there any bets on what will get released first? Black Mesa or HL3?
'cause there's $50.00 saying Black Mesa sees daylights before we see even a hint of HL3.

I don't know why Valve would hire the Black Mesa Source guys to finish anything, since, well, they haven't even been able to finish their own project. If anything, Valve has a track record of hiring on teams whose projects they like and finishing it for them (Left 4 Dead).

There was a time when I figured Black Mesa would be released first but now I think HL3 will someday see the light of day. Black Mesa on the other hand increasingly seems like vapourware.

How does he ask for the razor from the vendor?

Vending machines don't have voice inputs

It's a good thing there are all those razor blade vending machines then.

14th September?

Haha, I think their site has died from the news!

So they're releasing everything but the worst part of the game for now?

Twist my arm and break it, Black Mesa.

I just checked and hell has frozen over.
