Get the IV sedation. It’ll make things easier, and the part that goes inside the vein after the puncture is soft flexible plastic so it’s actually not a bother at all. Might as well get used to it.

If you go the oral sedative route try and be honest of how it goes for you in general. My 5mg valium did nothing for me but I also had no past experience either. I guess I am a hearty sedative guy.

My 2 cents of advice: seek out a provider who will perform a no-scalpel procedure. Admittedly anecdotal, I had that done and was up and about within a few days, and skimming this thread over the years now it seems like the others who have had no-scalpel done had fewer, if any, complications.

I think the numbers back that up. But there can be problems either way. You're generally better off no scalpel though. And actual anesthesia always carries a risk too. So valium and local pain killer worked for me. Then lots of frozen peas.

Well, I'm scheduled. Had my consultation 2 weeks ago, had to call them back to schedule even though I was told they would call my by the doctor. I could have scheduled for May 6th, but I've got the anniversary trip with the wife on the 20th so postponed into June after school lets out for her as a teacher as that was the general time frame of the rest of the openings. Plus the doctor said they pretty much only do (every) Friday afternoons and get a team of 3 doctors doing procedures, so it's done regularly there. Either way, not a long wait.

I don't know, think you could have really enjoyed that anniversary trip more...

Too close to be helpful and if things take too long to recover it could interfere.

All done and getting lunch. Starving after no food all day for the anesthesia. So far so good.

Don't let overconfidence be your downfall. It got me. Was feeling great, did too much, down for the count for a few extra days.

Nod. Home now, ibuprofen and started icing.

I will be out of the "no alcohol" window by then!

Sorry I missed League night, was super tired from watching kids while my wife did the labor chores. Back to work today with only mild discomfort. Definitely recommend my Urologist if anyone else is in the DC/VA/MD area.
