Fighting Game Catch-All

I deleted this thing a while ago but damn, now you've got me thinking.

Check out the tag (this is not my first rodeo).

Here's what I'd like to see: 16+ people would get put into at least 2 pools. As long as pools are a manageable size, we'll do a round robin best of 3 matches, 1 point per won game. Top 4 point getters in the pool move on to top 8.

So with 16 people, even if you don't make it out of pools, you played 7 best of 3 sets which is a minimum 14 games and you get to hang out with everyone while you do it.

It should be a blast regardless of skill level.

I have relevant info! We use http://challonge.com/ to organize tournament brackets in Air Dash Fight Club, which everyone should join btw.
There is also burningmeter.com
I am down for this! I've wanted to get back in it and Kolin will likely be my new main, sorry Karin. Also, why aren't there more redheads in SF?

Anyone still playing SFV on PC can cut down "loading" times *dramatically* with a mod available below, which apparently modifies only a single UI-variable:
https://toolassisted.github.io/SFV/

Also, only about 2 more weeks until UMvC3!

just to clarify, is there any risk to using those mods? be it game suspension/ban type stuff or oops mod stole your steam account type stuff?

Not from the Steam side, SFV has no anti-piracy associated with it. That said mods are not officially supported, so these are all use at your own risk as Capcom could decide to start banning for mods. Are they likely to do that for entirely client side mods? I doubt it.

Nice. I'm really eager to see how the netcode works on PC.

I bought KOF 2002 UM because I wanted to play Blue Mary and Angel and Vanessa and it is late at night and I have no willpower. Come and crush me! I hope Robert Garcia is a good guy, I want to play him too. I love how he dresses.
Also I don't have a PS4 and even if I did, it seems like there's only a slim chance that one of the DLC characters in silhouette would be Blue Mary anyway.

Only played training mode for KOF 2002, but so far: *speed lines* Wwwweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!
Everything's so fast! I can imagine playing this and being good at it feels really friggin' awesome. Canceling specials into specials is..not a thing I do well.

Looking at KOF videos though, it's like sure, you may get blown up, but you've got three fighters, so in a way, you can only lose 1/3 of the match at a time. It's non-interactive, but it's more fun to watch then being pressured by Zato-1 (f*ck Zato btw) because that's supposed to be an interactive experience, but rarely is, ya know?
If your opponent gets a 100% combo in KOF, that's really impressive and they deserve it, but if you get cornered in BB or GG and you die, well, that's because you failed, which is damn frustrating and induces a feeling of helplessness.

Hot damn, Kolin can go st.LP->st.MP->st.HP. Finally, a combo I can do.

What game was that where everyone could combo that? Was the SFvT?

Yes. The universal combo, and it was L M H of any attacks.

Still one of the most underrated fighting games ever.

How should one expect ULTIMATE MARVEL VS. CAPCOM 3" and "marvel vs capcom: infinite" to differ? UMC3 is out sooner but infinite is still slated for late 2017, are they just trying to milk money out of a second game from people who 'must play now!!!'?

The differences between 2 and 3 were pretty stark.

I would expect the differences between 3 and I to also be drastic.

Every new edition of MvC has been really different.

But besides that, Capcom is going for that FGC money by releasing UMvC3. People still want to play it in a tournament setting and releasing it on PS4 means that it can get played again (without lugging around a bunch of PS3s just for that game).

UMvC3 is just a re-release, the game came out originally in 2012 (I believe). Not so uncommon to reissue a previous entry in a series in order to raise awareness when a new installment is coming out.
Also, we pretty much already know that MvCI be drastically different since they announced that they are taking away assists and making the game 2v2. I'm very cautiously looking forward to Infinite, but cannot freaking wait for UMvC3 on Tuesday.

That set between Waterhorses and Nicky (Glacius vs Fulgore) was amazing!
I don't play KI nor do I know the systems, but I could follow that fight and it was breathtaking to see the flow. Normally KI fights are just light shows to me (way too many graphics going on).

This neat poster is of the shadoloo dolls and they're wearing one pieces, so be cautious if at work.

Courtesy of the guilty gear reddit, I learned that
I AM GOING TO EVO IF I WIN!
I mean, all I have to do is beat a bunch of people with way more experience than me. Easy peasy.
Training partners and/or rivals welcome.

That is going to be worth watching.

Vanessa! She's the third DLC character for KoF XIV! She's pretty and her shirt has a frilly lining in places, unexpected but I like the design. Come on Blue Mary. *fingers crossed*

I had hoped there'd be more 'amateurs' and less people who already have their airplane, Evo, and hotel reservations so my goals have changed somewhat.
Instead of top 8 one week, I'm going to try for top 32 for one week. Basically I just need to win a match.

Holy crap. This isn't a joke either.

That's too bad about MadCatz. I never used their products but fewer niche input peripheral makers is not generally good.

Came to post about Baiken in rev2, she's nice and all, but it seems you gotta work for those counters (not counter hits), in that you have to input a follow-up after someone strikes your sword. I didn't look up what they were like earlier.
Also, I'm going to have to change to the normal button layout to try her out (counter stance is S+H and right now my S & H are in the same column but different rows). Might as well, since everybody uses Type A anyway.

Her counters were changed from previous iterations, now you have to input a button for the respective counter you want to perform, after inputting s+h. Previously you'd just have to be in blockstun but then input a motion for the counter. I watched a video of her Rev2 incarnation, and I was getting nostalgic pretty quickly, haha. She looks awesome in Revelator, I hope they'll have news about the PC release soon.

Oh damn, I forgot she's out. That might be my fighting game for tonight.

Very tempting (Jam Kuradoberi figurine)

Do the nipples make it more or less tempting? I think it's a neat statue but the nipples are a bit over the top.

Rev 2 is out in Arcades in Japan, console release is some time in May.

Good thing I played Zelda instead then.

A figurine can only capture a moment in time. In this moment, her shirt's really tight and her nipples are hard, which is a thing that happens. Biology fun fact for the day.

Bleh, changed my button layout, didn't practice, lost two straight in Overdrive series week #1 (Steam Guilty Gear touney, winner gets a free trip to EVO, sponsored by stream.me). Kept mashing kick instead of punch. Input 236S lots of times but it doesn't seem to come out. Weird, GG is actually much more relaxed on special moves than Arcana Heart. Still don't know when the game will start accepting my inputs at the start of the round.
Made it to Loser's Quarter Finals through three different people not realizing they had to, not caring, or not having the time to play their matches.

That's the big problem with online events. Still, congrats on making it to Quarters!

Also this is great:

He mentions SFxT. On the plus side, the microtransactions aren't an issue anymore since you get them all with the bundle and they aren't releasing more!
