Guild Wars 2 Catch All

Nope. Invite done.

For what it is worth, I'm probably going to get more active in GW in March. I'm currently doing the WoW Cataclysm thing.

One thing that has remained constant - ANet has had the best artists in the industry for the past 6+ years.

Agreed. Their art is so amazing.

I'm so giddy for this game, it's kinda pathetic. That retrospective was only slightly smarmy at times, but overall I thought it a rather cool video.

If you don't want to watch 720p video at Youtube (cause I don't necessarily want to watch it in that small window or full screen) you can download it here.

Thanks!

Details of the Kodan race.

Different, but feels loosely inspired by the polar bears in the His Dark Materials books.

I hope we get to go to their homeland and see the iceberg city ships.

Clearly, and I'm totally ok with that. Not an animal you see a lot of.

Any fantasy setting instantly becomes more awesome when you add armored bears. Why? Because armored bears is why.

I now feel justified in choosing a polar bear as the first pet I am leveling up for the Monument of Fellowship (level 17 now!) on my N/R

The fifth profession is the Guardian

Full details to follow on Thursday.

I love the character animation in this, like the little jumping up and down in the Zealot's Defense video after he takes his weapon out. I hope there's lots of little touches like that as it really makes it a little more convincing that you're controlling a living character than a computer generated puppet.

Damnit, I started reading the GW2 wiki and can't get out. Send help!

World vs World sounds cool.

I have a tendency to read wikis to my own detriment so I've been avoiding the GW2 one. But that World vs World does look fun, like really huge Alliance Battles which are one of my favourite Guild Wars things.

I just read the page about 'sidekicks'.

Basically, you can join your high level friend as a sidekick and you'll temporarily get a level boost so that you can do the content he's on. A standard idea, and a good one, I think.

The interesting part is that if you go back as a high level player to a low level area you are temporarily lowered in level to a content-appropriate level. This means I can join my low level friend and do old content on my favourite character without unbalancing things. If you're going backwards like this they let you maintain a bit of a level advantage, just not a ridiculous one.

I like that a lot. I really hope they pull all of this stuff off properly. So many great ideas.

Must stop reading about Guild Wars 2. Must not get excited without playing game.

I'm actually starting to get tired of hearing about the game now.

Now I just want it.

It's odd when there's a sequel to a game you like, conflicting thoughts as on one hand you definitely want them to take their time and do it right, on the other you want it ASAP.

TwoThree more classes to go yet, and whatever else they decide to make a big deal of. One thing I did learn is that there is going to be a beta, but it's going to be close to release and not like the preview weekends they had for GW1.

Hmm, considering the popularity of wamos (warrior monks) in GW 1 and paladin style characters in other games, I'm betting Guardians will be the most overplayed class in GW 2. Unless of course there's an assassin style class.

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Prof...

On October 9, 2010, it was announced that, of the four professions yet to be revealed at the time, at least one was a returning profession, at least one was similar with a different name, and at least one was new. The guardian, revealed later, was confirmed to be a new profession, but it was said that there will be at least one more new profession. On January 27 2011, it was revealed that "a profession for people who play sneaky rogues or assassins is on the cards"

I'd say something like a Mesmer*, something like an Assassin, and something else. From here the Mesmer would fit as the 3rd scholar profession, the Assassin as the 2nd adventurer, leaving something of similar standing. I'd say a melee AoE specialist similar to a GW1 Dervish, although they've been saying because some skills are tied to weapons you could just equip a greatsword.

*There's also this picture: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/File...

I wouldn't be surprised if it was a Mesmer; I just read the second Guild Wars book that's set around the time GW2 will open, and they specifically mentioned 2 people (one very prominent, the human queen) being Mesmers. In fact that was the only class that was specifically named that I can remember. Also lots of stuff about Asuras, teleportation gates, and golemancy too. I would love to see Golemancer as a class! That could be cool.

There's already pets/minions for rangers and necromancers. I guess if there was to be a third class they would need something unique about how it would use them.

We here at ArenaNet just went through a round of interviews telling people about this exciting new Guild Wars 2 profession, the guardian. Not many of those conversations go by without someone wondering aloud if the guardian breaks the paradigm we set to create—a game without the Holy Trinity.

Interesting comments from reddit:

This. Plus the whole personal story aspect they have shown in character creation. Instead of saying, "I wanna play a Tank, DPS, Healer, etc" we are going to say, "I wanna play an angry Charr from the Blood Legion who uses guns and swords to kill everyone" or something along those lines.
MY GOD. They might have created. . . (wait for it) . . . an RPG!

Yeah I really really hope this works as advertised, it is beyond time for the Holy Trinity to be left in the dustbin of gaming history.

It does seem the industry has a number of 'comfort blankets' it just mass produces.

Yeah, I tried my best to play Dragon Age w/o the mmo mindset, but it was difficult. Probably my biggest gripe with the game looking back now.

Is someone running the GWJ Guild?

I believe MrDeVil909 runs the GW1 guild, and there's 4 officers who I don't know the identity of.

The leaders/officers of the original GWJ guild are unknown. If anyone has a toon left in it (I do not), you can likely usurp leadership at this point.

MrDevil909 and I have control of SBD, a guild allied with the original GWJ guild. We've been handing out invites to as desired/requested to folks that want to take advantage of SBD facilities (mainly the guild hall, which has most/all NPCs) while dabbling in GW1.

Cool, I would like a invite if you do not mind? Rikka the Fallen
