Guild Wars 2 Catch All

Yeah I'm in ZoS now.

I may have spent money on cosmetics for the first time. On a related note, my glider looks bad-ass, now.

I spent gems on a glider skin too, got me some bloodstone wings!

I did also! A cool glider and those glowing white hands! BUT if you dye the hands they change to a glowing color.

So, I hate to apply to ZoS and not end up playing, but after a couple days I'm really enjoying the game (coming back after a 3 or so year absence). I am Dethroned.7109 in game. Current character I'm playing is Praxir Void. Feel free to send a hello or something, otherwise I'm wandering the world alone, completion of waypoints and vistas my only friends

I'm also considering the ultimate combo version of the expansion as I don't own HoT. This will give me 4k gems to work with. I've heard 2 options for what to purchase:

LS2 and LS3 as you get points or something which help out
QoL items: Unbreakable set of tools and the copper salvage bot

I really have no idea which I'd go with.

There is a no-frills (no fancy animation) set of unbreakable tools that is 2400 gems. LS2 is 1280 gems, and LS3 is 800 gems. I'd get the Living Story packs, then buy the gems you need to get the tools with gold you get from playing. I want to say the tools were on sale for 1/2 price the last time I logged in, but that was a week or so ago. While not having to deal with buying and replacing tools is nice, it's not that big of a QOL issue.

It does not take long to complete the HoT story and some of the masteires you have to work on help out. I finished HoT main story last night and I think I've had it a couple weeks and have been all over the place with my focus.

I did buy the copper salvage bot and it is a life saver. You get SO MUCH loot doing the HoT meta events that with out breaking equip down your bag space hurts!

I got the ultimate edition too, used the gems on more bank slots and expanders

Even then it's sometimes not enough!

Sorry I've only been on a tiny bit this weekend, been working 12 hour days since Thursday. I'll catch up with people next weekend, likely, given my work schedule right now.

I caved, mostly because I'm weak

Looks like I'll do LS2&3, then get myself the copper salvage bot. Thanks guys!

Remember PoF starts Friday! I'll be on hitting it pretty hard before D2 on pc opens up the following week.

I also caved even though I barely play anymore these days. I'm so weak!

I don't have my gems yet but boosted my necro to 80. I wish I knew it would fill in all of the traits except elite specialization. I would have saved the points I had so I can start decking out the elite specialization.

One of the things that could be a downfall is that I'm a completionist. Once I hit a zone I have to finish it (except jumping puzzles, will do all of those later). Is there a certain way that I should be completing things to make my life easier? Should I jump to HoT, wherever it is, and complete that first, then go back and complete all of the older zones? I'll buy living story 2 and 3, should I go through and complete those first?

Yeah, I know, Ranalin, that's a travel day for me. Might be on later in the day, though, or the evening. Depends on how Busy Season is going at work.

Base story (if you haven't already completed it) including the story mode of the dungeons > read the summary of LS1 > LS2 > HoT > LS3. I wouldn't bother completing any zones until you're done with the story, or if you need a break from the story.

I did a lot in HoT this weekend. I think they did just a great job with all the area spanning events. I ran the ones in Tarir quite a bit this weekend. PLUS the gliding is just so much fun and really helps travel!

Game changer for sure! And the best thing about gliding is that they made it account wide unlock - phew

I would say do story stuff. Completing achievements is stuff to do when you need a break from other things. Although I'll admit I usually try to get all the zone map stuff done before moving on to the next zone.

Amen! Glad that ALL the mastery stuff is acct wide. Having to grind through all of that on a second character would be a pain.

It makes me anxious leaving all these waypoints and vistas behind but I managed to get a couple more hours of the story in there on all of your recommendations. I guess it's the right thing to do

One question I do have, any way to get quick hero points other than bouncing around the map to find them? I believe my first elite specialization as a reaper allows me to use a greatsword. It's 30 points, I don't have that yet. I am assuming I will get them leveling and possibly more in HoT as that's where the elite specializations were introduced?

Use the LFG tool for the Hot zones for HP trains. The HP you pick up there are worth 10 points...

If you're on the necro that you boosted to 80, you won't get any more hero points from XP, only from hero challenges which are in both vanilla and HoT maps. That's also why we've recommended skipping vistas and karma hearts (getting waypoints is a good idea though): exploration is best used as a method to level up before getting to the next zone. If you're already 80 it's still useful for achievement points or if you're a completionist, but not necessary.

You can also get HP via WvW through the Proof of Heroics currency. You can buy items with them that allow you to automatically finish a random HP challenge on your current map.

That being said I would recommend the HP trains that ranalin mentioned. They're run almost continuously these last few days before the expansion. Do the HoT maps first since each challenge is worth 10 HPs and you'll get the couple hundred you need for the elite spec a lot quicker than the core maps.

Well, the point is for him to go through the stories in order, not to get maxed out before the expansion drops, so it'll be awhile before he's on HoT maps.

Thanks guys. I'm not in a huge rush, I don't mind taking my time and enjoying the game. I was just curious on the hero points. I think I'll take the route that Stengah recommended earlier:

* Base story (if you haven't already completed it) including the story mode of the dungeons > read the summary of LS1 > LS2 > HoT > LS3

I apologize for the noobish questions but appreciate all of the answers

This isn't to get him to the expansion, but to get him his specialization. If he boosted he's already maxed out level wise and just needs the specialization. If doing nothing BUT story (and other achievement items) the specializations don't matter that much. Still... They definitely help you a lot and the story missions by the time you hit HoT are not easy.

Yeah I'm struggling badly in HoTs. Guess I'm just going to watch some catch-up videos and push straight into PoF. Now just need to decide on Weaver or Firebrand.

With HoTS, do events until you are more comfortable, and take the trains in VB and AB until you are familiar with the maps. Do the big Tarir events in AB, they're fun and you get tons of loot.

DeThroned, you can also play the game completionist, or map solving, or however you want. If you want to get every point on a map while leveling, and that's fun, don't let anyone tell you you're doing it wrong.

Yeah. I had a good yellow set. i remember having an issue with the old world dragon area. I came back recently and was able to get through it better since it had been awhile. World completion and story completion than off to HoT BAM hit a wall. Had to relearn how to engage especially with a take no hits engineer. I just started to swap over to scrapper to test it out not that I finished the story. I did have 600+ HP though hehe

Ok, so now there's this mastery track thing? And to do it I need to skip ahead to HoT and do stuff there or have my xp bar at full?

There's a ton to this game I don't quite understand yet. I don't want to skip ahead but I'm wondering if I'm losing out on xp by waiting and not jumping ahead now. What's up with this mastery thing and should I do it sooner rather than later?
