Guild Wars 2 Catch All

Yeah, log in once and you have access to it. Otherwise you'll have to pay them to access the living content.

so far the new Living Story season has been party-based instances, like the personal story, that's what allows them to make them playable whenever.

it's paired with other new content (events, new zone), which are more "play them now while they're heavily populated".

You'll be able to use gems to unlock those that you miss if you want too, I think they are 200 gems each?

I bought Guild Wars 2 on release a few years back & only marginally got into it. I liked the world & combat seemed pretty good. I literally haven't touched it since the first month of release, has it changed much over the years? I'm thinking it might be time for me to finally give this game the chance it deserves.

There's a ton more currencies, but otherwise the core should look the same to you.

I cannot get my game to update these past few days. My download rate drops to 0.02 KB/sec before 'Connection error(s) detected. Retrying...' and then it hangs indefinitely.

Similar to Spikeout, I was about to give the game another shake.

A few months ago there was a thing where Verizon (FIOS specifically) users couldn't reach the CDN used to host the updates, because VZ had blocked them. Switching my DNS to Google's DNS (8.8.8.8) fixed it for me (and many others).

Patch day! Remember to log in and unlock this fortnight's episode!

Looks like a Feature Pack will be out in September, putting more Living World S2 stuff on hold until October.

Right now there's no details on what all they're adding or changing, but I'm a much bigger fan of the feature packs than the living world stuff (assuming they make traits not stupid).

If I could have one GW2 wish it would be - keep the 14 trait point scale and revert the timing and unlocking, so you'd get your first minor at... 15? and you can just buy the training books again. Keep the unlocks, also, for folks that prefer it, but levelling a new character is brutal now, and you can't experiment at all. It is currently the exact opposite of why wife and I loved the game at release.

This is great news as I've been playing other MMOs and was afraid I was going to completely fall behind and never catch up with the living story. Now I'm just waiting for the Fall WVW season.

Man why does it take so long for password reset emails and authentication emails

From what has come out so far it seems to be more screwing over of WvW players. Coloured tags (a rainbow of 4 colours?) at 300g each and a siege disabler trick that will, on balance, probably help stacked servers more and to the detriment of small-scale play (either attacking or defending).

Oh and a combat log which will tell you what killed you. Unless presumably, as just happened to me, you get killed by hacker scum (invulnerable, attacks in stealth, no revealed) with no way to report whatsoever.

I picked up playing some WvW again and was surprised there were a number of things not fixed on the agenda a year ago.

I came across a teleport hack, wall hack, speed hack, and perma stealth builds. Was expecting to have loot bags jump into my inventory, but I can't complain about no repair costs.

I do appreciate that NSP has it's own TS server, but I miss the days when commanders would actually communicate. I rolled on commander tag and tried to help out only to be ignored and told that I have to be in voice chat.

The hacking got out of hand in the last tournament, and to the frustration of honest players nothing was done despite an epic number of reports (including screenshots and videos). Posts complaining about hacking on the forums get infracted. Anet really don't care.

Actually one of the guys on my server is deaf and doesn't use TS. He's a good commander and it isn't really missed that much (assuming the players actually know the basics of large-scale fights).

Edit to add: These days most guilds raid tagless, and I think pug commanders are becoming an endangered species everywhere but EB. A lot of the remaining players are experienced and small group roaming or home border defending. On my server when someone tags up they only end up with a handful of followers.

Aaaaand here comes another WvW tournament. The good news: it's only 4 weeks long. The bad news: no penalties for players or guilds transferring to stacked servers. Anet must be missing their transfer gem sales. On the plus side, the rewards should be better for lowly placed servers, at least if you can do the achievement for all 4 weeks.

BTW they backpeddled on the coloured tags at 300g each, now it will be 300g for all the colours after the patch, but if you buy now at 100g you will be grandfathered in.

I have had a tag for like 1.5 years. Does that mean I automatically get all the colors?

The tournament looks interesting. Does ZoS have a WvW team?

Existing tags get upgraded to account bound assorted skittles, yes.

Yes and Yes.

Soooo... Edwin and I have been shopping around for an MMO to play together and for various reasons we've pretty much settled on GW2.

I know the GWJ guild is pretty dormant at this point, but any pointers for us otherwise as we get ourselves up and running?

If it's still the default, turn off the dodge when double tapping the WSAD keys and bind dodge to its own, distinct key. Not getting hit is way more important than being able to tank. Learn how to set up, and complete combos, do so as often as possible.

Aw, you guys are going to have a blast, you're in for a treat.

The new player experience is about to change in a massive way tomorrow, btw.
Maybe hold off til then so you don't have "confused" ideas of how things work.

We ordered the physical copy off Amazon since it was cheaper than the digital copies. It won't be here till Thursday anyway. Any resources we can read about combos and stuff. I think Clover is going to be a Mesmer so I want to find a good complimentary class.

My two pieces of noobie advice to better enjoy the game:

-don't rush to 80. play the game at your own pace, focusing on the content you enjoy, rather than chasing max level and/or rewards.

-look up. exploring is way more fun when you can see interesting/intriguing features in the distance.

The don't rush to 80 is a nice advice. As, if you are going to low level area, your level will be adjusted in consequence, and you still get the same amount of xps for your level. So if you got a friend which is power level than you, it doesn't matter when you play with him, you won't have overpowered issues...

I want to say warriors probably have the biggest variety of combo finishers (I do know they only have 1 skill that makes a field, so having more finishers would make sense), but you'll have fun running around with together with any class combination. I think the biggest place class composition would matter is in the dungeons and PVP.
The basic rundown for combos is that some skills will set up a field, and some will perform a finisher. The tooltip for the skills will tell you if they do, and what type or field/finisher they make/do. Perform a finisher within (or going through) a field, and you'll make a combo, the effect of which will vary depending on the types of field and finisher. This is the GW2 Wiki page for combos, and the whole wiki is an excellent resource to have.

If you are looking for an active guild, I recommend Zealots of Shiverpeaks. Some goodjers, myself included, went there after the GWJ guild fizzled out. A good outfit.

WP has put up his first video on the new feature pack:

Collections might just hook me back into the game.
