Guild Wars 2 Catch All

I still have trouble getting a handle on the new traits system, to be honest. I've half a mind to look up what other members of Zealots of the Shiverpeaks are doing with their characters, and just copy. Yeah, I know, that makes me lazy. :D

I never roll a character in an MMO without first - or at some point - look at build ideas. The last thing I want to do is create a build that leaves me underpowered 20 hours into the game.

Speaking of, I hit 30 with my Norn ranger. I'm using a greatsword build with a power focus. I'm swap in frost spirit as needed, while keeping 3 passive signets on for the buffs: increased movement speed, increased toughness, and health regeneration. It seems to be working quite well. With the ability to respec trait points I'm half-tempted to jump back in to my level 48 Human ranger and continue on, now that I'm back into the swing of things, so to speak. I have bouncing between alts; I like to have one character I focus on and get into, so we'll see. At any rate, it's good to be back into Guild Wars.

You mostly hit it in your second paragraph. Looking at build ideas is nice because at least it lets you look toward a point that you are working for, but you are never really at risk of being underpowered 20 hours into the game because of that re-spec option. The bigger traps are later on if you sink ungodly amounts of coin into poor gear specs.... but that's another issue altogether.

Remember to log in and unlock the 2nd Living Story 2 piece.

So, I'm loading up GW1, and working through the HoM. How good/important are the rewards. Are they just visual skins?

titles and armour/weapon/pet skins..odds are you won't be using any of it.

I think I still wear one of the titles, just because it never occurs to me to go change it, completely inconsequential.

The skins are very nice but you probably won't use them at max level. Getting your first five points is really easy, but getting the higher rewards/titles can take a long time. My recommendation would be to play GW 1 because you enjoy the game, not to unlock stuff in GW 2.

I'm at 10 points now. Getting the rest is a matter of working my way through the campaigns (Sabway / Discordway builds) and taking slight detours. That makes me sad that the rewards aren't worth that much. I'll have to rethink it then.

Thanks!

They are strictly skins, some are nice, some less. They have no inherent value besides either liking them or not, but a whole lot of people have them so they certainly wont set you apart.

Time would be better spent in GW2!

I did a quick check of the reward calculator and it looks like you have all the low hanging fruit. Also, at level 10 you unlock the flaming sword which is awesome. I won't lie - trying to get the higher level armor and elite weapons for your final points is a total grind. I did it back when I had little better to do, but it also helped that I was able to sell some rare pets and drops.
UI
Speaking of pets, Do you have any yet? If not I have some bday pets lying around I could give you. It will at least get you 2-3 more points.

I have up on the HoM a loooong time go. I haven't completed any of the campaigns, despite having sunk several hundred hours in GW1, go figure. HoM is mostly for bragging rights, anyhow. Definitely get to playing GW2, it's awesome.

I'm trying to get access to my account right now. Apparently I forgot the password, and made it something odd for the time that I was playing regularly.

Here is my Hall right now. I know I have at least 6 to 10 birthday presents, so hopefully something unique + 4 more pets for 2 points. I can roll a Ranger and get it to the HoM for another point. I've got the 15k for Marhan's or Granite Citadel elite armors for another point.

Grinding out Vanquishing titles, storyline and the like is doable with Sabway or Discordway, so I can likely finish the main storylines without too much problem, I just don't remember where I was in getting the elite skills for it.

Thanks for posting the reminder =) Not playing atm but definitely want to make sure I unlock all the content for when I get around to playing again.

Wow, it sure was nice to see so many people online last night. Not from here, just in general. That gives me hope as in the past nowhere near as many people were on.

I've seen a lot of complaining about the megaservers in general chat, but it seems to be a great thing to me, the game is full of life now.

in areas that were underpopulated/dead, it's great because it let's you see other players and makes group events do-able.

in areas that were already popular, and therefor dominated by zerg play, it has completely trivialized the content (and rendered the game unplayable on lower spec PCs).

the biggest problem in the game&community is the zerg-for-reward attitude, and megaservers crank that up to 11.

Recently patched up the client and have been playing again for about a week. Started fresh with a thief (first time with the class) and am loving it! Can't believe I waited this long to try that class. Running with dagger/pistol and shortbow. Feeling pretty untouchable with things except Dredge and their confounded immunity to blind.

I have max level warrior, engineer and guardian. Though all but the engie are not properly geared for end game. I tried the new content and got into Dry Top with my guardian. And got totally shut down at the stage where you are escorting the NPC necro and mesmer and run into two veteran Inquest assassins that you have to fight, by yourself. I am soooo rusty. Gave up trying after six attempts. My best shot was getting them both down to about 80 percent health

That and it has made life generally more difficult for larger guilds attempting guild mission, turned guild recruiting into a mess, made things awkward for WvW commanders who would pop into cities to muster reinforcements, sent the RP community into a tail spin, removed any sense of server identity that was tied to PvE, essentially randomized guesting... and a slew of other legitimate niggles and annoyances.

...but now yes you might run across 1-2 people in fields of ruin.

Have to admit I've feeling some of the GW2 WvW itch.

Damn, I've looked at same of the trait changes for necro and engineer, looks much improved. What's the deal with this mega server business, does it affect WvW? What's the state of that in general, is it still competitive?

I totally dont want to farm for ascended gear though, meh.

The megaservers have been rolled out to the entire game? When did that happen? Last time I played it was only the opening zones.

The change to the trait system is what is making me very leery of picking GW2 back up despite having strong desires several times over the last year.

Enable me? Is there a good online primer for the new system?

The new trait system sucks. Hard. Progression is a key part of mmos and they took a big chunk of it away. Granted leveling is pretty quick. But having to wait to level 30? Bleh.

Besides making it awkward to call for help for your side in Lion's Arch, the mega server has no appreciable effect on WvW. As for ascended gear, it certainly is a grind but it is not necessary by any stretch of the imagination unless maybe you're into outnumbered solo or 2-player roaming. You can also get ascended armor/weapons as drops from WvW. It's rare but the hardcore WvW crowd seems to get them once in a while.

The mega server was rolled out to every map within less than 2 weeks from that patch.

Dulfy has a trait unlocking guide

Patch day! Remember to unlock this fortnight's episode.

Is the unlock account or character bound?

account

just log in once during a release and it's yours forever.

There's usually a green star icon at the bottom right, for me, that I click, then click Unlock in the popup.
Not sure that's necessary, but I do it.

I've not been logging in for any of these. So the logging on just once each release would probably be a good idea. What about the stuff I missed? If I come back in a year or so, am I going to really miss anything that I didn't login for if I start logging in now and having things going forward?

I've been logging in religiously and getting the new episodes, even though I'm not currently playing. I only have a lvl 35 character, will I be able to play this content at any time? Or is is real\-time?
