Warrior is the only class I haven't tried so I have no idea. XD I've always been told they were pretty straightforward, though.
It's likely just about getting used to a new class. I've got an axe/axe human warrior who can cut through pretty much anything in his path. Axe/mace is pretty good as well and I typically keep a longbow as my secondary weapon set.
That's sound advice, ruhk. I remember it took me a while to get a handle on my necro. Kept trying different weapon sets until I found one that "clicked" and then I was good to go.
If there's one thing to be said about GW2, it's that the eight classes really do feel different from one another.
I'm currently running a warior with a sword/warhorn and longbow. Warhorn with traits converts conditions to boons plus is great for mobility. Longbow doesn't get much use, outside of world bosses and the like, but i felt I needed to keep a ranged option. When I was levelling, I found hammer to be much more useful as the second weapon.
The key at early levels (with nearly every class) is to keep your gear close to your level. Also don't forget food, which besides the buffs, helps to level you quicker.

You see the longbow all the time in spvp
Fire fields are nice for might stacks but the recent changes to longbow mean it is less viable in a power build. For levelling warriors take a greatsword and 5 signets until around lv60 when other utilities start to become preferable.
Is it possible for a ranger to be effective with a power build in pvp? I'm leveling with shortbow + sword/torch, so lots of conditions. Thinking about switching to power but after using all the weapons, power doesn't seem to be all that effective.
Thanks, El.
I jumped back into my Ranger, and took a few minutes re-learning the moves and general feel of combat. I made some progress in the Personal Story, got up to level 38, and now I definitely feel like I'm back into the swing of things. For giggles, I started an alt: a Norn Warrior. I love the Norns, their starting zone, and the whole Great Hunt thing in their story. Is there a particular trick to the Warrior? I seem to be getting my backside handed to me quite a bit. I don't know if it's because I'm so used to the Ranger, or because I'm not using the best weapon setup (sword and board at the moment). Maybe I just need practice?
Warrior is the defacto DPS class in GW2 and I found levelling easiest when I built it for that. There's something about the way that the systems ale balanced, you cant tank the same way that you can dish. The way you tank in more difficult content is by blocking, dodging, reflecting, and using other utilities to negate rather than absorb damage.
For levelling the warrior just build for DPS and make sure everything is dead before you are. I think I used Axe/Axe, or Axe/Warhorn (to get around).
Btw, the "got drunk and blacked out" norn story line is super hilarious.

I had some success WvW roaming with a power based full cleric gear regen bunker build (usually with GS and SB). I was really hard to kill but there are some fights that were just slogs and I just had to break and escape. YOu're much better off with condition based I think for most of WvW.
In sPvP I hear the spirits builds are all the rage.
Not sure.
Someone compiled the ongoing Living Story so far and put it into a Google Doc that took up 22 pages.
Next installment of the Living Story starts on the 18th. This one looks like a doozy.

*cough* axe and horn *cough*
So has anyone seen that WVW season 2 is coming up from March-May? Looks like they're going to do a Swiss style playoff and that instead of getting one chest everyone will get tickets to buy items from a vendor, thereby rewarding you based on your participation.

This may just keep me playing the game instead of jumping ship to ESO, at least through May.

This seems interesting. Season 1 was such a train wreck.
You should also be able to play solely in EotM and still get the achievements. Potentially the rewards do sound better. This week's regular match up on my server is utterly dead but EotM is always busy. But I'm not sure if WvW population had just fallen off a cliff anyway following the league, I only came back to check out the new map. I was really hoping account bound ranks would be thing by now, but I gather it probably won't happen before April?
re: swiss style tournament... I don't really get what they're going for here, won't this lead to even worse matchups than what we had in season 1?
re: wvw activity/population... for NSP the drop is directly tied to everyone being in eotm, it was still fairly active right up to the last patch. the post-league burnout wore off before xmas.

Time to escape from Lion's Arch.
Any opinion on the new Lions Arch stuff?
I logged in for a half hour last night, walloped some bad guys, saved some good guys, etc. but didn't see or do anything more than that.
I definitely have to shake off the rust. My warrior had always been double ax, but I went to greatsword and ax/mace just before I went on hiatus from the game so my fighting style is a bit inelegant shall we say.
I like what they're doing in terms of shaking things up and making dramatic changes to the world, but the actual event seems buggy as hell. The first "round" I played through (it resets and restarts every hour) I didn't get any achievements credit for completing any of the events and none of the citizens we are supposed to rescue had respawned from the previous round.
what I've seen so far looked cool enough but my rig can't really handle the crowds.. so like the other zerg content, I'll be skipping most of it.
You need to be level 30+ to get it on the fun right? Not sure, can't see anything. My highest guy is 22 and I don't really have any Lion's Arch waypoints or even anyones close to it unlocked.

Every race's home city has an asuran gate to Lion's Arch, so it's very easy to get to.
Anyone still play this at a lower level? I picked it up, but the newbie areas are deserted. I don't think I want to fight through 50 levels of content before anyone will group with me. I know high level people can play with lower level in GW2, but it doesn't mean that anyone wants to.
some of the lower level zones like Queensdale are still pretty crowded.. but generally, unless the zone has a current Living Story element, a champ train or a world boss... it's gonna be pretty empty of players unless you bring them along with you.
some of us are still playing in those zones but the odds of bumping into someone and them tagging along with what you're doing aren't very likely.
Most gwj peeps are on Northern Shiverpeaks and we have a guild, and while most ppl have moved on to more active guilds, if we hook you up with an invite you could still see who's online and then just ask around if anyone wants to help you out, we're pretty friendly.

The game is really set up nicely for people to join lower level peeps and group with them. I don't think it negatively impacts either party. Just speak up in chat! (I'm not playing atm or I would totally join ya )

Yeah, I'm Sway.5972 on Northern Shiverpeaks. I'm tempted to pay for Elder Scrolls Online just to play an MMO with other people, though. Waiting for sales on MMOs keeps backfiring on me.
You can also go to the WvW zones, where you will be auto leveled to 80, yet you will continue to earn xp and loot that is useable when you leave. Currently, the same also applies to lions arch, which you should be able to reach via the Asura gates.
