Guild Wars 2 Catch All

Any recommendation on where to throw my WvW points initially? Figured I put a few to lower guard and siege weapon damage to myself but beyond that I'm stumped.

I put mine into Arrow Cart mastery. They are the most common siege out there are are cheap, so you find them often enough.

I put mine in the Ram line for my ranger. Ranger is a pretty decent bunker and with just basic Iron Hide from the first 5 points anyone focusing me will likely destroy the ram before I go down.

So have lines died down a little in WVW? Unfortunately with my schedule I don't have time to wait in 2-hour queues as that's about the length of my entire play session.

I don't think I've had to queue up for WvW anytime in like the last 6-8 months on NSP.

On JQ it had got to the point where by monday you could reasonably hop in without too much of a wait, well apart from Eternal, but with the new season ... I'm expecting by thursday each week it will have quietened down :p

I am disapponted in this year's Halloween. I was looking forward to picking up a skin or a recipie for one of the halloween weapons, and it is just not happening. The recipies are way too expensive for me to buy or to get the mats for, so sadface for this Halloween events.

I've been sitting on all the components for The Crossing since last Halloween, even unlocked the recipes back then.

well all the components except those damn dungeon tokens.. of which I still have none, because I really have no interest whatsoever in dungeon runs. Oh.. and I think the new version of the recipes require way more of the nougats/plastic fangs so I might be short on those.

I had a year to motivate myself into doing those runs and never did, so I'm closing the book on that. if you or anyone else wants the stuff I have so far, they're up for grabs.

I haven't really had that much fun in-game in the last month so I'm moving on to other things for a while.. at least until the pvp meta shifts significantly and/or the completely asinine direction WvW has taken is reversed.

I managed the achievements for Halloween, and got my candy corn node (what's that for, exactly?). I liked the instances although they were short, and the Mad King's Labyrinth was fairly lucrative in short spells although I felt the three damage sponge bosses they put there were a bit tedious. Didn't even try for the Halloween weapons and sold my mats instead. I am however very much looking forward to Tower of Nightmares. I just hope it's not another vacuous Scarlet Briar fiasco.

As for WvW, I've managed to play for a few hours this week although the queues at prime time (when I can play, generally) have put a big dent in what I might have done normally. I'm not convinced by the meta-achievement. Getting kills, camp flips, ruins and doly kills isn't hard at all for a roamer - but I never go near the jumping puzzles and a blobfest fight in Stonemist is something I generally avoid. The achievements are all over the place (I don't have siege masteries so why would I jump on siege?) and I just don't see me doing it.

The candy corn node I believe will give you access to candy corn year round.

There has been a queue for EB on NSP most evenings since the beginning of the season, I even had to queue for our BL once.

Ok, so I haven't been on since July... But how the heck did NSP go from rank 22 to rank 15 and climbing?

I'm only playing WvW more regularly lately since when I got the badges for my legendary so I dont know the specifics, but it seemed to have been a combination of the servers around our skill level losing population and/or entire guilds. We may have gotten marginally better, but I think overall it's just that the servers that were near us are tanking.

Part of it is that AN moved away from the tiered system a bit before July, so you could more easily gain rank even if you were loosing on the actual point count. We are also a bit more aggressive than we use to be, but still are stupid and short sighted at times.

Newb question: are there any permanent speed boost signets/mods I can apply to weapons or armor on my Asuran Mesmer? Focus4 is ok, but lasts too short, and my random Signet giver skill has too many to rotate through.

Normally doesn't bother me. Until it does.

Superior Runes of the Traveller will give a 25% boost to run speed. They're expensive though, and may not be as effective in combat as others as the other bonuses are a bit all over the place.

The alternative might be to choose runes with either swiftness or all-boon duration. Superior Centaur, Pack or Air runes give +20% swiftness duration. Superior Air give that bonus from only 2 runes, meaning you could potentially mix and match. Most boon duration rune sets focus on healing power, which I doubt is a good fit for a mesmer.

Thanks. I'm not so worried about combat as I am just run speed in general. I'll check prices, but needing six of them to get that 25% sounds like a lifestyle commitment

You could bee sacrificing a lot of effectiveness tough, so be mindful. Mesmers are just slow in wvw. You could also just strive to accept that and learn to work with it. When built and played effectively they can be pretty dominating even without perm speed increases.

I would suggest Lyon live with it. When you are running with a Zerg there are plenty of AoE buffing. If you are by yourself, you will be fine.

BTW It is a strange turn of events where Tyops is doing WvW and I am doing the living story content.

Yeah, I'd have to save forever to afford a full set of traveller. What are you using for runes at the moment?

For my mesmer, rabid armor and trinkets (all available from templesl, and 6x sup perplexity runes. Speced for confusion. Scepter torch and all the invis skills. It's an osicat build but i tweakwd a bit. Super fun.

And yeah.. Been in wvw. Some good times, some lame. Nsp wvw is pretty bad on pacific tme evenings. I envy my former east coast time slot.

Hehe yea, it's not really a problem. I was more just curious. I don't want to commit six runes just for a permanent speed boost when the other stats aren't on my short list of requirements. I'm only at 71, I haven't done any PvP/WvW at all on any class, and the only time the runspeed thing is even an annoyance is when everyone else is running faster than me while Focus4 is on cooldown and nobody else has dropped a swiftness field

According to a Dev post, there is going to be a future rune/sigil balance pass, with Travaler mentioned as one set that will be getting some love.

That stuff is usually handled in the Guild Wars 2 Guild organization thread, but you can just post your character's name or your display name (with the numbers behind it), and an officer will handle it as soon as possible. I'll be online on Steam working most of the morning, so I can handle it in a timely fashion.
Unless you've already gone to bed, of course. In that case, someone stateside will probably do it later today.

You must've also gotten my invite to the Steam group. I find it's easier to dive in if I know someone else is already playing, so a few of us launch GW2 with Steam (by adding a non-Steam game shortcut).

Oh yikes, I've just had a thought. Hope you rolled on Northern Shiverpeaks... :/

I'm pretty sure I picked the right server. I check that before. Haven't really been able to play since I bought it as I was out of town. hope to jump back in this week.

You'll still be able to guest on our server regardless of your initial choice.

Provided you're not on a European server of course.

New patch notes are up.

Tower of Nightmares
What happens when the evil agendas of the krait and the Nightmare Court align? The answer can be found around Viathan Lake in Kessex Hills, where a dreadful tower has risen to spew poison into the sky. It’s causing hallucinations and illness in all who breathe in the spores. The malevolent forces behind it have Tyria’s subjugation in mind.

Couldn't they hit up the thesaurus? "Toxic Alliance" makes me think of the recent "Molten Alliance".

Why are they always making alliances at all? The Krait could just be, y'know .... Krait. They're interesting enough to carry a Living World instalment and their xenophobic outlook doesn't exactly make it credible that they'd team up with the Nightmare Court. The whole Scarlet thing is sub par and shoehorning her in everywhere is alienating a lot of players.

That said I'm looking forward to diving in when I get home.

Well it's their attempt at a recurring villain.

I just wish she'd make an alliance with Giants... that way we could get the giant slayer achievement without horrible grinding.

I think Scarlet could still work as a villain, if it turns out that she is either possessed or beholden to something that she encountered in the Eternal Alchemy.

For those that don't know, Anet has been posting some decent lore short stories on their website and Wooden Potatoes has read most of them via his YouTube channel, including one for Scarlet.
