Guild Wars 2 Catch All

So I know nothing of WvW. I've been thinking of getting into it and general pvp with either my warrior or necro. Back in WoW I used to play A LOT of wintergrasp. Is WvW anything like that? All I've really heard about it is that its brutal. Something tells me that just jumping in without knowing anything before hand would not be about as good an idea as jumping into an empty pool.

If you liked Wintergrasp, you'll be very comfortable in WvW. It's a similar concept in a lot of ways, with quite a few interesting layers of complexity added.

Just jumping in without knowing anything works great in WvW. I only went in for the first time to run around and get map completion tasks done and rapidly found myself having lots of fun despite being utterly clueless. Just find a zerg and follow it around and it's like getting a guided tour.

I would disagree that it works great. I was really frustrated my first few trips into WvW. You might want to look at the Wiki article on WvW to prep yourself.

sPvP is a more pure PvP experence, with no guards etc. It is more like the battle grounds esp. athari (sp? I have not played WoW in years) highlands. It is also completely segregrated from the rest of the game which limits how many players really want to put time into it.

I'd suggest having a look at the Wiki and also the sticky thread on the official forums that gives a reasonable introduction. Also have a look at the layout of EB and the Borderlands as a lot of the map chat will reference locations.

After that by all means follow a Zerg around and things should start to make sense. And it should get you a bit of action at least. Expect to die a lot, but that's okay

I think I'll do a bit of both. Read a bit then hop in and see what happens. Become a zergling for a while. Thanks for the advise peoples, there was something else I wanted to ask about...but I can't remember what it was. Maybe I figured it out already and forgot.

So last week, Scratched posted this:

North America trial weekend coming up: http://www.zam.com/story.html?story=...

And I've already bullied my husband into playing with me this weekend if I can nab a trial. Still nothing new when I last checked this morning before leaving for work and I can't reach the site from work (web site blocked, imagine that! ). I'm guessing there won't be anything up until 8am EST at the earliest, but still, I'm very anxious, as I'm guessing they'll sell like hot cakes, so to speak. Anyone know anything? hear anything?

Also, many thanks to Alex, Don, Tscott, and Tyops for the HotW run last night, it's always great to get together and actually play with goodjers (which is all too rare out here in GMT+4 land).

MMORPG.com is giving away the keys now: http://www.mmorpg.com/giveaways.cfm/...

I PM'd you one, Eleima.

Could I get a key too for my brother-in-law?

I don't to create an account just for one key ( and on me cell at work )

Thank to anyone who help

Thank you so much, Javamancer!! I was absolutely certain that they would start giving out the keys while I was commuting or working or feeding/washing/putting to bed the baby, and that I wouldn't manage to grab one! I'm downloading the client on hubby's PC right now!! Thanks so much, I owe you one!!!

NP, things went smoothly enough, and I had completely forgotten that you're one of the GWJers who struggles to get dungeon groups because of time zone issues. Was it just really early morning for you?

Eleima, your play time seems to overlap mine often enough that we can certainly do this again. Dungeon explore mode doesn't take all that long, usually.

So far, I like gw2lfg.com for grouping. You need to accept to be in a pug, but you can whisper anyone in a NA server.

Did 2 fractals this way so far.

Yeah, things really did go smoothly, it was great! The group really came together, and I didn't die once! A miracle, I tell you! And yeah, I'm 8 hours ahead of EST, so that usually complicates things, but there's also the toddler to contend with, that definitely cuts into gaming time. And also makes planning it a more delicate task.

Sounds like fun, Don, I'd definitely like that! I should really do the story modes one of these days, too!

About gw2lfg, I've used it once for SAB, and it works well enough. It's just that I'd rather hang out with you guys.

Not my night. Didn't get credit for event in Orr. Came back to level warrior, but "lost connection to client" three times. Now I can't even log in.

ya login server is down

edit: back up but it rolled back all my dailies work

The leaderboards now let you filter by guilds -- https://leaderboards.guildwars2.com/... (that link will work if you're logged in; otherwise you'll need to login and then drill down into the guild).

You got hit by that as well? I was levelling a new character in crafting with an XP bonus applied. Got booted changing maps, lost my progress, restarted, forgot to apply XP bonus.

I got hit by something similar on Monday night, I got booted right after buying obsidian shards and salvaging a few rares for ectos. When I logged in Tuesday, I had my karma back, no shards, and the rares werent salvaged... luckily, when I re-salvaged I got much better results.

I've been hit by the "login server unavailable" issue three times since Saturday. I'm glad to hear it's not just me because I was starting to think it was my ISP.

I lost 3 ecto on Monday. Did a world boss, salvaged the 1 rare and gained 3 ecto. Logged back in (the trading post was glitched) and they were gone. The rare I'd salvaged wasn't there, either

Based on similar reports on the forums and reddit, it seems to happen around 9:30 est..

so.. don't do salvages, chests, long events, etc.. around that time I guess.

or if you do, afterwards don't change zones till after 10

It is sad that new pickaxe is only per character, and not account bound like normal pick... ( yeah, I bought it )

For people interested in the new gem store mining pick, keep in mind that at the current gold/gems exchange rate you would need roughly 60,000 uses on ori nodes before the pick has paid for itself. There are other factors to consider such the convenience and cool animation... I guess these should be the only factors.

http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/1citm3/60000_uses_before_the_molten_alliance_pick_is/

I bought it for the animation! ( *crickets* )

And since I don't mind dropping a few coins in a game that keep my attention, it's fine by me. And I find it convenient, and wish they do the sickle and axe one as well.

It would have been more useful to move it around alts tho.

I think it's safe to expect those would be coming at some point. If they were slightly cheaper and potentially not soulbound, I would consider them as well. As it stands, the current situation isnt very inconvenient so I wont bother.

I would spring for an account bound sickle.. i never remember which sickle quality you need for which plants and either get ruined fibers or waste higher quality sickle uses.

At least for copper, although you make somewhat less profit, using an ori pick on a copper node is still profitable. The same probably isnt true for sickles and axes.

I wasn't planning to buy the pick, but then I saw a video of the flaming lava awesomesauce and now I smelt ore AT THE SOURCE!
