I'll give you guys a character name to add once I've created a character I'm sure I intend to keep. :)
No need to wait, it's your account name with the four digit number after it that gets added to the guild, then any character you create can just click the represent button.
Oh. Well, then. LobsterMobster.7435
I am a bit confused regarding the "Gates of Arah" world event. When and where does it take place? I spent a couple of hours yesterday circling the area. After getting killed a 1000 times waiting for the event to start I just went to bed. Thanks for any assistance.

I think all 5 temples of the gods have to be controlled by the pact, and then another chain starts.
This is the wiki entry for the Gates of Arah meta-event.
Hang out at Compass Plaza doing the pre-events as they pop up and eventually the assault on Arah will start.

I'm almost certain the temples don't factor into it.
Thanks for the info. I hung out for a bit and completed a number of events. The statues were all deactivated but the chain of events never did kick off while I was online.

Every evening between roughly 20h00 and 21h00 EST there is a group thay organizes and runs though all the temple events in succession.
I was considering the commander tag and someone in guild mentioned it will soon be more difficult to acquire. I was wondering if anyone had read anything along to lines as to the change in obtaining commander.
My delay is mostly in deciding which character I would like the tag on. I have the other resources for the tome.
I havent read anything about it being more difficult to get. I did read that they would expand its functionality.
I was listening to a podcast that has some WvW devs on it a few weeks back and they started that the commander tag is a bit to easy to get at the moment. They clarified that easy meant "doesnt need to actually wvw" to get it. They stated that they are looking to make it more in line with a legendary weapon or an achievement reward (not in difficulty, just in structure) where you have to meet certain criteria or have specific wvw items to get it.
They didnt say they were doing it, just that its being looked at for the big wvw patch.

What podcast? I have been looking into GW2 podcasts, but the quality of the ones I have found seems to be poor.
it was a fairly poor one. let me see if i can find it. it was a wvw based pod. I only listened to the one episode.
If anyone finds any good GW2 podcasts I would be interested in them too.
Best one is probably: http://www.talesoftyria.com/
The GiantBomb one (Linconcast) is OK, but they desperately need an editor and will typically ramble about other games for the first hour.
the only one i still listen/watch to every week is Guildcast http://www.gamebreaker.tv/guildcast-... ..the host is a bit of a nob but Elixabeth knows her sh*t and the gang has a fun dynamic.
'All roads lead to Orr' from gw2insider is also pretty decent but mostly focused on lore http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list...
I gave up on tales of tyria months ago, just cannot stand freelancer at all.
So when is the "big" WvW patch supposed to hit?
I am a bit out of the loop during winter months. Thank you all for the info though, been most helpful. I wanted to put the tag on a warrior or guardian instead of my ranger, but if the patch is soon, I will pick between my ranger or mesmer.
A couple more questions:
1. Is there an elitistjerks equivalent for GW2? I found their site really helpful in understanding the underlying mechanics of WoW.
2. I'm in the mid 40s level wise and have way more skill points than I seem to be able to use. Is that just a gimme so I can be more flexible on the fly or am I missing something that will be more evident later since I believe I'll only be about to have 10 skills active at any one time?

End of March

Once you have all the skills you want, the rest of your skill points can be used to craft some of fancier exotics. For example, when I crafted The Anomaly it took 250 skill points.
So for now it's not something you need to worry about, when you hit 80 and you get curious about the fancier options, you'll have a bunch saved up just from leveling.

Yeah, I find him annoying as well, but he is off the show for awhile as he just had a baby, or rather his wife did.
So tonight I realized part of my problem with GW 2 and why I'm not motivated enough to log in too often - I play at odd hours (usually after 10:30 PST) and rarely if ever can get a group going to do anything. So Im soloing hearts and the occasional event that I can handle and it's rather boring. I want to get back into WVW but not being max level puts me at a bit of a disadvantage.
Anyone have some tips for making soloing more fun? Could be my main class. I gave up work on my engineer and went back to my guardian, but most fights feel like a slog.
I suffered with this a bit when I was on a US server, as often I would be trying to play at times when it was not very active and doing DEs or finding groups was hard. Maybe try guesting and find a busier server - I hear Tarnished Coast is rammed at the moment.

I've gone level 30 to 80 in WvW and dungeons alone. It helps to be ranged DPS class like Ele, Mesmer, Ranger, or Thief. That way you get hit less often.

I think that with the wvw patch looming and the recent loot fixes it's probably the right time to give wvw a second look.

I've pretty much solo'd the whole way through (haven't been around right place right time to get a dungeon yet, but plenty of zerg fests). I finally settled on guardian because it seemed like the least amount of slog. As soon as I got that great sword into my hands, stuff just started to melt in front of me, and going back to play a different class, I realize just how much survivability the guardian has to just jump into difficult groups of stuff that I just can't touch with my other chars. Maybe its the weapon set for you? It was pretty rough when I was trying to be mace/shield guardian, long slow slow slow fights.
About soloing, hit me up if you see me online. I'm always up to quest with others, but I'm only level 40.
In wvw, I would be 80...
I'm in the process of leveling up as well. One thing I've seen that helps that's a carry over from my WoW days is to not feel compelled to be in the max level zone for my toon. While GW2 has the dynamic system, things just below your level still go down faster and lets me chain pull more frequently.
Well, my first and main character, my Sylvari Elementalist, just hit level 80 tonight. Still have to advance the story and I still need to do some dungeons, but I think I'm going to start leveling my other characters now (who are stuck at level 10-15!). Will probably go with my Charr Guardian, but I like my Human Ranger too... Gosh, this game is so bad for my pile!!!
I need to try and wake up earlier so I can synch up my morning session with your game time!
I love getting a chance to game with our brethren&sisthren in other timezones

Grats, but dont just rush off in an alt-itis induced frenzy. Take some time and tour with your L80 character, see the events, try the dungeons, earn some coin. That will make it much easier to progress with your other characters later.
