Guild Wars 2 Catch All

My Favorite:

Just a day after the company unveiled its new line of Hello Quaggan backpacks, the Sanquaggan Company is under fire for allegedly using forced quaggan labor to create the new plush accessory.

The accusations were brought forth by Ramperoo, a quaggan who says he was able to escape the labor camp. He claims that he just wants to set his brothers and sisters free, citing that the work conditions are, “Not coo.”

I didn't realize they interviewed my Thief for this...

Most Important update here:

•A new, unique miniature: Chauncey von Snuffles III, who placed second in the Divinity’s Reach Fanciest Cat competition
On Dungeons:

•Players can revive at a checkpoint in fractal maps if the entire party is out of combat.
•Players are no longer prevented from entering fractal maps. The difficulty of the fractals is shared, and players will receive rewards based on their “reward level.”

(CoF)
•Explorable—Magg’s Chain: The event to defend Magg while he plants a bomb has been rebuilt. I hope you will not have to do the round robbin dying thing any more.
(SE)
•Explorable—Inquest Path: The infinitely spawning waves have been adjusted to no longer spawn when fighting with the golem miniboss. They will continue once the golem event completes. The group compositions were also adjusted to add more variation. Made this slightly less impossible.

(HotW)
•Explorable: Aldus Stormbringer adds are no longer veterans and have adjusted respawn times. Makes this more survivable.

Upon reading the patch notes I only had one question..

..who placed FIRST in the Divinity’s Reach Fanciest Cat competition?

While guesting, all guild influence earned will be applied to your home world, and you will only have access to your home world guild benefits, including the guild vault.

Aha. So guesting is still not quite being a first-class citizen.

The difficulty of events to claim and defend the Orrian temples and the Gates to Arah will now scale to accommodate a larger number of players.

Heh. Anti-zerg code? This should be interesting.

Holy cow! Glad I took a break from working late to check this thread, I went ahead and launched the game so it'd update itself and be ready for when I next got an opportunity to play. This one's pretty hefty!!

Yeah, I doubt I'll be able to play tonight. Sad sad.

I'd have loved to play tonight but what's truly sad is that that wasn't even an option for me. I'm neck deep in the STARD initiative and QUADAS tool. I would soooooo rather be stuck in the Wayfarer Foothill snows!!!

Double post for some reason, sorry about that.

Move along, nothing to see here!

No time for world event activities but I did manage to bang out my new daily. easy as pie though combo killer can be tricky to make count.

YES! My last run through HotW was a real pain because of this fight. And because I volunteered to stay down and try to take the adds on while everyone else plinked away at the boss from upstairs.

Yeah, that was a brutal fight for us, although I managed not to die thanks to your heroic sacrifices!

As far as the update, I'm really happy that we can return to a fractal instance after being disconnected. Two nights ago, I was as the very end of a level 6 round (after over an hour of playing through 3 instances and the bonus instance) and disconnected with the final boss at a sliver of health -- over an hour of my time wasted and I'm still stuck at level 6. That was frustrating.

Also, I'm excited to see how the dungeon encounters were tuned. If we can't rez rush them, then that *should* mean that they've been made quite a bit easier, which I think will be a lot more fun.

Best tatic I saw was to all go upstars and get out of LOS for the main boss when the adds came, focusing on adds, then going after the boss once the adds were down. Moot Point now.

Edit: I think the pickure below is of Chauncey von Snuffles III (found here.) He certanly is a fancy cat.

Dungeons
  • Polished dungeons and removed the ability to use waypoints while any player is in combat.

Yeah. I was actually pretty turned off by my first visit to a dungeon, in which everybody was like "Rez and run back!" and I was like "Uh. If we have to do that, we're clearly doing something wrong." So I'm happy that they've tuned things better *and* that they've made that tactic impossible.

FYI for those who cant play tonight, you will only be missing out on dailies etc. World/Sotory event stuff kicks off tomorrow.

As per Anet https://forum-en.guildwars2.com/forum/game/gw2/How-to-start-the-flame-and-frost-story/first#post1313570

The playable Living Story content will start appearing tomorrow (January 29) at around noon Pacific Time in Wayfarer Foothills and Diessa Plateau. When the events start in Diessa Plateau, you’ll be sent an in-game mail letting you know about it. However, if you’re already logged in when that happens, you need to change maps to receive it.

So I've been wanting to roll a Nord for some time now, but in beta I found the starting zones to be kind of redundant and uninspired. The new changes might make it a good time to make an alt. Just got to decide between ranger, thief or engineer.

Haha, you said "Nord" instead of "Norn"! I went with a thief for my norn, and made her as tall as possible. I figured there weren't any true stealth mechanics, so might as well go for the most counter-intuitive character. She still hasn't reached level 10 if I recall correctly, so if you want to level together one of these days, I'm all for it.

Sounds like a similar concept to my guardian. She's the tiniest asura that I could make, with red pigtails.

I think the thing is with the thief is that the moment you mention stealth and daggers, people automatically associate it with a WoW rogue playstyle. It's much more like being batman, or a thug.

Yeah, my wife mentioned how she wished that her thief had a stealth like her WoW rogue.
My thought was that, just like combat, GW2 is just a more "active" gameplay. The fact that you can't just go into stealth and sit there forever, you have to use stealth as a sort of dodge, similar to a mesmer using blink. It's just a more active, transient sort of mechanic.
I can't even imagine how crazy OP thieves would be if they could just sit in stealth at will.
With the inability to spam AoEs all over the place, sweeping keeps for hiding groups of thieves just waiting to recap once you leave... impossible.

Not sure if it changed with the current build, but there are a couple of builds that can achieve permanent, or nearly so, stealth.

Or just grab yourself a disguise kit from the Charr. <.<

Well, you can't just hit your stealth button and walk away from your PC and be hidden somewhere indefinitely, right? You have to keep stealthing?

And the kits only last for... 15 seconds, I think? And I think you can't move? It's a temporary "buff", good for dropping aggro or ressing someone, but unless you keep using them, it only lasts a few seconds while standing in place.

Each of those plays quite differently, and all those classes have legitimate PvE issues.

- Some people feel the Engy is just not effective enough at 80, but it's really kinda fun to level.
- The ranger's damage being inextricably linked to the pet is an issue that can be hard to deal with at level 80 in dungeons, pets die instantly. The wonky AI doesnt help either.
-For thieves having not played one myself I can't say much but it seems the major complaint is that they are too squishy... many bosses, vets, champs, are balanced around the idea of sustain, meaning you're more likely to be effective if you can chip away at them while not dying. Thieves are inherently designed to be "bursty" and "squishy".

Did the same with my norn thief (as of yet unplayed)... he's as huge as possible. Was thinking of doing that with a mesmer too... enormous clones popping up everywhere.

God no. It is so damn confusing when I see 3 giant norn explode before my eyes.

My first main was a Thief and my build was definitely focused on sustained damage through pistol bleeding, so it is possible.

The problem with the squishy-ness is that most of your survivability comes through mobility and stealth. Unfortunately, mobility and stealth are often useless in dungeons due to tight quarters and abundance of AOE/traps. Stealth can also be an issue when doing solo content because going into stealth can break aggro and reset the mob... doing skill challenges can be a giant pain in the ass when your build is all-in on stealth.

You know, just for that statement, he'll definitely be doing it now

Good for me then that I am on the EU side of servers. ;D
