MechWarrior: Online - Catch all

I didn't know that you throw on extra jump jets. I wonder how high you could get a Cat?

If anyone had a beta key lying around or knew of where to find one I have an inbox with a spot reserved for one.
I'm just sayin' is all.

Never mind. Thought I was in a different thread. Sowrry.

I'll be gone until late Sunday then gone that Monday until the 31st. I'll miss my Atlases. Going to try and score a beta key for mechwarrior tactics at GENCON.

Looks like they rolled out some more general beta invites, check your email.

Oh, and squee. Hypothetically, that is.

*watches video, laughs* Nice fantasy.

I'm curios, who wins this fight: A Jenner vs an Atlas?

LtWarhound, care to answer that?

Great fight dude!

And tie goes to the last two standing. Bummer, no exp for a tie? If I had known that I'd have thrown the match, at least gotten the exp for losing.

Yeah, that was a bummer, but I thought I had destroyed you at the last second? I guess I was just as the timer ran out. At least I heard your last leg blow up.

we had someone d/c so we were down one. Score was 6/7 and when you killed him it was a tie.

Nope, was still standing at the end, with 4 kills to my credit.

The Pugs in this game really suck. Any team with any organization (even just the slightest) will mop up. I'd rather have bots than most of my pug 'team mates'.

If any of you guys plan to be on this weekend, give me a heads up and I'll join in. This game is definitely better with voice chat.

The same problems in WoT. Tanks not fulfilling their roles... you trying to make a break and disrupt entrenched enemies, and your worthless team don't follow through, but continue to hide, and lose.

No, I'm not bitter... not me...

Come into Vent and form group in game. Easily roll over most PUGs. Great fun with goodjers. I am gone for two weeks and missing it badly.

Worse than the pugs is the pug vs premade games. Sorry, but those aren't fun when you are stuck on the pug side, and I can't see them being fun for very long for the premades, either. This game desperately needs matchmaking that matches premades only against other premades, period. Games that allow premade vs pug in retail? I stop playing them as soon as I figure that out.

K2. 2xAC/20s. Tunnel fights.

Not sure I understand what you mean? You want an option for stock mechs only?

I'd like to see balancing reasonable close to WoT, maximum of 3 "grouped" together (you could still have 5 groups of 3 arrayed against your team), but at least they weren't likely to be all on the same TS/Vent/Mumble.

Ideally the player base would be large enough to match teams of any size against a team of equal size. Limiting it to only 3 seems annoying. I have enough trouble in LoL keeping my games to 5 or 10 people max!

I MAY or may not be in the beta. I'll look for y'all in vent sometime hopefully, I need the newbie instruction talk-through.

Premade is the common gaming term for a premade team of players, a team set up before going into the matchmaking. Where a pug group is not premade, but a group of players randomly assigned by the matchmaking system.

Think of the difference between two teams:

The premade, where you pick and choose your players and mechs before the game, probably with a set of tactics and an overall strategy, and probably on Vent or Teamspeak so the group leader can call out orders which will probably be followed by the group as a whole.

Then, the pug (pick up group, remember), where they are at best a random group of players, and on average a collection of eight groups of a single player each, who just happen to be on the same side of the map at the start, most of whom will randomly charge off in different directions to die hopelessly, while ignoring the text chat since they forgot how to read in this age of Vent/Teamspeak.

Playing in a pug against a premade means you lose. Badly. 99.9% of the time. Its just not fun, and oddly enough, that's why most people are playing the game, fun, right? And, when in the premade, how long will it be before curbstomping people who have no chance stops being fun? Pretty quick for most of us. No challenge.

Any decent matchmaking system will match pugs against pugs, and premades against premades, NOT premades against pugs. A game like MW:O has to have a decent matchmaking system or it dies.

I haven't a clue how you got the idea I was talking about stock mechs.

I'd like to see voice implemented for teams through the game client itself. give me a mute option, but that would make pugs infinitely more playable.

Oh, Crom! You just made me picture a VoIP with no mute... *shudders*

"Heal me you penis!" -- you probably heard that with the appropriate voice.

They did that on Space Marine initially. It sucked.

Ah, LtW, I get you now. And I agree about the disparity between premade and pugs. But even if I lose, I'm still enjoying the ride.

Looks like more invites going out. Check you spam folders.

I'm starting to look at this game now - MW2 was one of my favorites back in the late 90s - and I'd love to play. I might even be willing to pony up the $30.

What invites are these that are going out? I can't find anything about it on the website.

I'm tempted to pony up $30 to try out the game... but I've got a limited budget. Is it worth it yet?

I'm having fun. I bought the $60 founders package and I don't regret it thus far.

Closed beta invites. I signed up months ago and finally got in. If something like that actually exists.

9:30 EST tonight on vent. Anyone else want to get together tonight?

Until they fix the matchmaking, and stop letting premade teams curbstomp pugs, I'm finding it hard to muster any interest in playing. Once (if) they make that fix, then great, I'll be able to look past the bugs and balance problems because its still a closed beta. However, unlike the other closed betas I'm poking around in, the devs sound like they think the game is close to being ready for release, and I don't agree.

Lots of potential, and not there yet.

Since they are taking real cash for their product now, they really shouldn't have an NDA. You are paying for a product that technically we can't tell you about until after you hand over the cash. Seems wrong...

And the matchmaking is worse than I thought. Here is their current MM process:

MatchMaking 0.5
· Teams will always be even in numbers.
· Groups will always be on the same team.
· Groups will now be matched with equivalent weight class opponents in a 1:1 relationship.
. For every Assault Mech on 1 team, there’s an Assault Mech on the other.
. This is weight class driven, that is, an Atlas on one team can be matched with an Atlas or an Awesome on another team.

This means that the MM will look at your team, and then try to find a match for it. Unless it happens to stumble over another team with the exact same weight classes, it won't be able to match your premade against another premade, and instead is forced to match you against a pug. Like the premade that was 8 light mechs, the odds of finding another premade like that? Probably nil. They were just fast farming wins for exp, not fighting (had a guy on our pug that claimed to be in Mumble with them, and he confirmed my suspicions), so not much in the way of beta testing there.

This explains why it seems like almost every match my pug was in was against a premade, and why I was definitely felt like I was facing more premades after this patch than before it. Ugh. Just means I'll wait until this is fixed before going back into the beta.

As much as I loved the MW2+ games, I think I'll be skipping on paying for this one. I never paid a dime in World of Tanks, and I played the crap out of that. So, if it's at least as fun as WoT, I'll enjoy it, if it isn't... then I've saved myself $60 (the Founder's Package I was considering).
