Sounds great, I too hated the 3-mech mechanic.
Sometimes when a mech only has one good variant I only blued the other two and then dumped them as soon as I got the module unlocked on the good one. That was very cost prohibitive though so I could only do it with light mechs.
I'm not so happy - sort of just ambivalent. Purchasing three mechs allowed me to discover some mechs that really matched my playstyle that I might not have purchased, otherwise. I've been playing a while, and my focus mechs will probably have enough exp to max out the current point system - so - then what?
I'm mostly a light pilot, and I pimped out my beloved oxide on the test server, and didn't NEED all the points, but wanted more. After the rescale, I've sort of adopted the Locust 3M as my mech of choice. So - I'm pumping up the exp on that little fella over the next month.
...actually just checked, need about 20k more exp to max it out.
Hi there, I am fairly new to MWO...only few days, to be precise. I got through the tutorial and the academy and almost finished my first 25 games (I think I just did the 22nd). I bought my first mech, heavy Hellriser Prime and did a little change to it with a little help I could find around the web. Everything is working fine...I sort of understand what's going on and I enjoy playing so far. My question is....what kind of things I am supposed to know and how many things....before going into Faction Play? Where to start...and when? I figured I should have at least several own mechs, so I could make a drop squad of four mechs, correct? I figured how to do that (know about the tonnage limit)....not sure if those mechs has to be one faction (depending what faction I will be playing for) or if they can be mixed. Also, at first I am only able to answer to calls for help of whichever faction calls, right? Should I stick with that or do something else? Maybe sign me into a solo "looking for group"? In theory, I could make a unit with my son, since maybe we could play together some QuickPlays...but don't feel like going into Faction Plays with him. Even though that seems to be the meat of the game...earning achievements and loyalty points etc. That's what you want to do, right? I have more questions regarding Faction Play, but don't want to vomit them all here at once...I will take it slowly. Thank in advance for helping me out here a little.
You don't really ever have to go into Faction. That's generally the hardcore playerbase, and it's never really interested me much.
Well, I think Faction play is more hardcore in that it is expected that a team will work more closely together.
You will need a full drop deck of the same side, Clan or IS. It is possible to use the demo 'mechs for this.
The games are longer with each player getting 4 drops instead of the single they get in QP. Siege mode is only available in FP. Most games happen with a lot of long range weapons in my experience. Brawling is less an option.
There is also scouting in FP. 4 v 4 with a limit of 55 tons for IS and 50 for Clan. These either end up as 'smoke dives' where a team hides until the last possible moment and then hurries in to the pickup zone, or pure brawl. High burst, high alpha strike is the order of the day here and shoot legs.
Harmony Gold may be suing Piranha and Harebrained Schemes over the use of Robotech mecha in the game (like the Warhammer). It's the same age-old argument but I guess Harmony Gold needs the money now. I don't have a good link to a story.

Well I thought it would be like the next logical step, but seems like you really need a team to be anything enjoyable. Also noticed getting into the game might take anywhere from 20 to 45 minutes, at least for some people. Wow.
So I will stick with quick play for now.

You see it exactly as I do.
I haven't played this game in months. I have no idea what the meta game even looks like now. I need to play it some soon.
Last week's patch changed things massively. The new meta is still being discovered.

This. With the skill tree you can get some crazy armor on some mechs (mainly IS) for example the Annihilator fully skilled for armor will have 175 armor points for the CT. It's crazy... but at the same time TTK hasn't really changed too much thanks to the new tech. Saw a video where a guy kitted out a bushwhacker with 6 rocket 20's and a snubnosed PPC + LB-10x for an alpha of 230. In one match he killed prior mentioned Annihilator with his alpha. Luckily those rockets are single use.
OK, got to patch this and see what's going on. Been months since I played. Didn't even have the new launcher.
Thread arise!
Buncha stuff, including two free mechs on Dec 27th.

I'm not playing much but my group is still fairly active, find anyone with an [FLH] tag (Forlorn Hope) if you are interested with dropping with gamers that have jobs.
As part of the Solaris 7 mech pack hype, Pirana is running events over the next four days. Special guest on the 13th will be George Ledoux, voice actor for Duncan Fisher. Cool.
I loaded this back up to get my fix while waiting for the turn-based BattleTech, and wow did they change things last year. I do appreciate removing the need to play different variants in order to master a mech, but it looks like they really did a number on IS mechs that relied on quirks. It's going to take me a couple of hours just to get back in fighting trim.
It has been called "The Great Unfunning", as mainly a light pilot, I agree. But some like it more, now.
Give me MWO circa 2012(?), (remember when you had to drop 3/3/3/3?) I'd be right back in.
Log into the game between now and the first of May. Get a free Uziel Champion mech (and I assume a mech bay, but its not mentioned).
