MechWarrior: Online - Catch all

I'm at 51 qualifying games (non faction) and no Centurion, either.

I'm trying out a new Hunchback build, this one trades all of the lasers for an extra heatsink and two ERPPCs. I'm not the best shot with a PPC yet so I'm using this to get some practice in. The PPCs run very hot but I have 18 sinks so it is manageable with volley fire. They don't have nearly as much alpha strike damage as my lasers but the range is much better, I can do meaningful damage all the way out to the edge of my (boosted) sensor range. A very useful property of the PPC is the emp debuff. It cancels out ECM if you shoot the mech with ECM, this combined with my BAP makes ECM mechs much less of a threat.

Part of the reason I shelved the lasers for a while is that I'm getting really tired of bad hit detection against lights. Sometimes I fire a 43 damage alpha strike into a light mech that is just standing there and I don't even get a component destroyed. PPCs don't suffer from splash, if they hit it's a solid 10 damage.

Unfortunately, you'll find that PPC hit detection is even worse, especially at close range. :\ 75 chances, no Centurion. I'm loathe to do faction play, but might drag myself into it. Did get a bunch of Mech bays on sale.

That sucks. I've got 21 more chances.

At close range I find the shot placement for PPCs becomes unreliable because of where the hardpoints are mounted vs your perspective. I don't have any trouble with my hits not registering though, if it hits it hits for full damage.

I managed to one-shot a moving raven at ~1000m. That felt DAMN good.

This might sound dumb, but how do I find the GWJ unit? The UI of this game is just awful.

Accept my friend request (bottom right of screen from menu screens, probably flashing. Then I'll invite you and you can see the list to friend up.

(assuming you're using Skiptron in game, I just sent a friend request)

I wish I was Skiptron in game, some jerk store took it. I'm HughJorgan in-game.

Picked up another 85 MC and 800k cbills. No dice on the Centurion, I'm lukewarm on the mech itself but the mechbay would have been nice.

The Centurions are fine. However, they've given away special models of the AH twice, and they're the type you can't sell. So I'm also not that interested in the mech, but want the bay.

I could try faction warfare I guess, but my experience with it has been pretty garbage so far...

I'm down to try anything in this game, so far I've just been piloting lights, mostly the raven trying to get mastery on it.

Also, I got your invite MB, thanks.

Invited you to the unit so you could see who to friend up.

We really haven't been hooking up to play much. Are people still checking Vent, moved on to Curse, or are we all just soloing these days?

71 matches. No mech/mechbay. I also didn't get the Timberwolf last time in a bunch of matches. Boo.

I've got like 40 of the holiday stocking matches, nothing really cool though. I did get these hanging candy canes that I swear are made of diamond or something. Every time the light hits them there is this unholy lens flare that cover my entire cockpit in blinding rage-inducing brilliance.

Looks like they're giving out 7 day premium time if you subscribe or are currently subscribed to the MWO newsletter.

Nice, you have until the January 19th at 9:59 AM PST (5:59 PM UTC) to redeem it. Not seeing anything happening this weekend, so I'll hold off redeeming it for now. Besides, the voting system is still in place, and I'm not thrilled to play MechSkirmish Online 24/7.

Haven't watched this yet, but Giant Bomb Quick Look:

And while we're at it:

Weekend event, another Like a Champion - score most damage on a kill to earn a point, 25 points for a Cicada CDA-2A(C) and bay. 40 points for the top prize of two colors.

Edit: Added a link to the loadout for the prize mech... its...erh, a free mechbay.

Edit to the edit: I linked to the wrong mech, the actual prize is much better, but, still...

So I couldn't sleep last night so I figured wth I'll get some matches in for this event...

"Starts: JANUARY 14th 10:00:00 AM (PST) / 6:00:00 PM (UTC)"

... I've been playin' for about 3 hours now. Probably would have about 5 points in by now. If it had already started. Goddammit.

Cicada's are fun. And I already have this one, so, free bay, and I'll sell my normal version.

At least this isn't random draw.

EDIT: I just read the requirements for the point closer, and realized it's going to be battlefields full of heavies and above, because they're likely to get the most damage in kills.

Although I think the HBK-4G might be a good candidate. Or even whichever Centurian mounts the AC-20.

I figure the queues will be overflowing with stompy brawler loadout heavy mechs. Timberwolves as far as the eye can see, maybe some Hellbringers.

How is that different then what we always see? I can't recall a game in the past month that had less than 3 Timberwolves. You'd think Comstar gave out a free Timberwolf with every message sent.

I would not be surprised to find out that in half my matches I was piloting a Timberwolf, I really enjoy that mech. So I do notice them when they are on the field. Since they added the stacking penalty for lasers, the number of TBRs in play has dropped, a lot. That said, you are pretty much assured to see at least one TBR ever match. This weekend? I suspect you will be seeing at least 3 or 4 on each team. Maybe more. Its a tanky mech that can carry heavy loadouts at good speed with jumpjets, what is not to like?

Ya, It's a great mech, I just wish they'd either bring it back in line with the other mechs in it's weight-class or bring a few more up to be serious contenders.

How do mech colours work exactly, do you have to buy it once for all mechs or individually per mech or per variant? If you win the free colour from the event does it only apply to the Cicada?

Most the basic colors you can get for CBills, the rest MC or events like this. Once unlocked you can use it on any mech you own.

Is there still a single use color and pattern option? Used to be, but it always seemed a waste.

Edit: Prize mech includes an XL 340. Nice.

Oh that's nice. Camo patterns too?

The last time I looked at camo patterns and colours everything (and I do mean everything) seemed to be single use only on individual mechs. If I could buy three colours and a camo to use on everything I own I might put more money into the game.
