Persona 4 Golden Catch-All

I ran with Belphegor for an incredibly long time, he was one of my longest used personae. I fused him with Agilao, a bunch of team-wide buff spells, and he has really good base resistances.

Hilariously enough, I did the same. Also, the dude is sitting on the toilet. Why wouldn't you bring him to battle?

What's the difference between normal and hard, other than the obvious?

I just finished it on hard. It's really not too bad. You might have to take your time a bit and grind. If you die, you have the option to restart from the floor you were on. The last half of the game was easy on Hard. It's just the first half that can get a little frustrating because it's easy to get one-shotted if you're not careful and don't know exactly what you're doing. I'd say definitely set it to at least Hard if you've played Persona games before. It's much more satisfying combat when it comes to regular enemies.

So, yeah, I finished the game. I must have gotten the crappiest of crap endings. I don't really mind other than having absolutely no idea what would be required to get the good ending. Oh well. I don't know if I feel like looking it up or not. I may just call it good. 86 hours it took me.

I definitely liked the story and style of P3P better. I hope they don't do the same thing as with Golden, though. I'd totally buy it and play the whole damn thing over again. Both are great games. I hope there is a Persona 5 made with some decent graphics. That would be sweet.

Darn it, I don't know if I'm going to be able to stop playing this game. What do you keep in NG+? I started it up on very hard but didn't get far enough to check. My guess is that you just keep your stats but no Social Link progress. Even just starting out a game with all the stats maxed would allow me to do so much more with the Social Links.

You keep:

- Yen
- Your Compendium
- MC social stats

You do not keep:

- Items
- Personae
- Social Link levels

There are a few other things you keep, but they don't actually matter. You also unlock the ability to customize the game difficulty, so you can have enemies hit you 2x as hard, but also grant you 2x Yen/XP, etc. etc.

If you beat it a second time, do they let you do NG+ again keeping your whole compendium for a third playthrough? I'm mainly wondering if you would really have to be careful during the second playthrough to grab trophies.

I think you can do as many NG+ as you want.

Cool, thanks! I highly doubt I'll even get through a second playthrough as I need to play other games.

I forgot why I fell so in love with Chie, replaying has reminded me. I restarted on hard. I'm not terribly interested in having more difficult gameplay, but since it can be changed now, why not give it a try?

I started watching Persona 4: The Animation last night while I was starting up a new game. It was weird to be playing the game and watching the anime at the same time. I dunno if the Japanese voice actors from the animation are the ones that did the voices in the Japanese game, but the performances are leaps and bounds ahead of the English voice overs in the game.

I work on a little Japanese each day starting earlier this year, but it's gonna be a few years before I am good enough just to import games to avoid this issue.

I believe I'm nearing the end of the game, running through a dungeon in pursuit of:

Spoiler:

Adachi.

What I'm not sure about is if I can leave the dungeon for the day, go back to town, sell / buy items, etc. My hunch is yes, but I don't want to leave and screw something up. Any advice?

IIRC (it has been a few months) you can safely leave that dungeon then come back. There are only 2 dungeons in the game you must do in 1 go, and that isn't one of them.

Guess the PS3 is staying close at hand for the time being

Having lots of fun playing this. Probably too much fun. I've never played P4 before, but I'm familiar with the plot. But holy cow: I just started the new social link with super spoilers here

Spoiler:

Adachi. I am kind of curious to see this though. I knew it existed, but I thought it would be a new game+ thing

Spoiler:

That's one of the two new social links added in Golden. If you pursue it far enough it will also lead you to the new ending they added to the game.

New dungeon unlocked~ The SOS feature is interesting. It is kind of fun to know there are a few people still going through the dungeons. I'll find myself waiting a few moments after I hit SOS to see if anyone else sends out a signal. Not much of a help, since I'll get 0-1 people usually, but it is nice to keep my teammate's sp at a workable level without resorting to diabetic inducing soda chugging.

So far I've found that cash is somewhat difficult to maintain. I can burn through a good portion of my saved cash from a dungeon just from fusing and recalling persona. So I'm hoping to acquire some decent armor / weapons from chests and the pub.

I did circle back to the scene of your first battle.

Spoiler:

I thought new bosses were added to the regions, but it seems that is not so for the liquor store. I was surprised to find a nice SP weapon for Yosuke, though. I wasn't sure why there were two clickable spots in the store. After that I went back to the Castle to beat Yukiko's new boss. Rampage wiped my first try. My second try he did not end up using it again so I was able to beat it and get a shiny, new fan for Yukiko. I think I was a bit underleveled for the fight, but everyone pulled through.

I hope to get to the mid boss for this dungeon and then have enough funds to get new armor for my team.

SOS was useful at times when playing on Very Hard. Mostly it's a delay feature, as in it just delays going back and paying for a full heal. I agree it is fun to see who else is in the same area and playing.

I did not dare to play on very hard. Just normal hard for my play through. But I still can't really afford the fox as of yet

The nice thing about the fox is you can complete most of its quests without sacrificing another social link and you can get the social up from it on any day, including rainy days.

Well I think I hit one of the new events for Golden

Spoiler:

Yosuke introduced me to his up close and personal plan. I really like Yosuke as a character. You see how he grows throughout the game. I really liked that about Junpei from Persona 3 as well. However this event just kind of was off for me? The day before the event I had the social link level up where Yosuke literally states that he doesn't have the time or desire to look for girls right now, because he has something important to do. And then the next day I go out for shallow pick ups. Then within that same week I go on the school camping trip and Yosuke just treats Kanji like trash. Seriously. He knows something vulnerable and and painful for Kanji, and he just uses it as a weapon. He treats Kanji terribly on the biking event too, trying to shut him out and belittle everything he does. I like Yosuke. Yosuke is probably one of my favorite Persona characters. But I don't like Yosuke right now.

Personal theory, but it feels like Yosuke just overreacts to Kanji because he has a crush on the main character. Still it is tiresome not being able to dress him down for his attitude right now. I guess karma will get back to him since Yosuke has the lowest luck on his Persona

Ayup. Scooters and all related content are new to Golden.

Spoiler:

Bad luck on your Yosuke events, I think. He does grow but he's still more of a lovable asshole trying his best than a stand up guy, in my opinion.

And EVERYONE rags on Kanji way too much for my taste. Though given his reactions I can't honestly say I wouldn't succumb to the temptation to tease him were I his friend.

Kanji:

Spoiler:

His voice actor is great, and I get that his reactions are really funny, but yeah. Ugh I'm going to be sad if Kanji keeps getting treated as second class. As a side note: I love that his tattoo has one eye like the reaper in P3/P4

Edit: I am also having fun with the new event

Spoiler:

gardening

. There is just so much to do every day

My thoughts on Yosuke and Kanji:

Spoiler:

Yosuke strikes me as the kind of guy who will give a person a hassle just to see the person stand up for himself. To people like him, it can be more like baby lions wrestling: It's an attempt to see the people you care about get stronger, rather than trying to hurt them. I'm not saying it's good behavior. It just struck me as his motivation. Yosuke more than crossed a few lines along the way.

In warmer, happier feelings: My youngest son was listening to the theme song / "Shadow World" on loop this morning. My oldest was listening to Doodlebops on loop at that age. This is preferable.

Re Kanji and Yosuke:

Spoiler:

I'm guessing at least part of the problem is they act like this just for making quips for the audience. Kanji's and Yosuke's voice actors are just too good at freaking out. Ah well

MrAndrewJ: I'm not sure what Doodlebops is, but I can only guess that Shadow World is a vast improvement upon it.

New teammates x2 acquired~

Spoiler:

Shadow Teddie was just a war of attrition. I did not bring Yuki, so my main character had to play healer while I focused on physical skills. Thankfully I just managed to unlock the persona Parvati, and she had the medium level party heal and ice resistance. Unfortunately, my two party level buffs were on Pyro Jack... Teddie kept wiping my buffs and throwing out defense downs. So after a while I gave up having the main do party buffs. Yosuke used the single eva up and the main character just wiped any status down effects thrown on.

Was it even possible to crit on Teddie? I used rebellion for Chie/Kanji/MC for most of the fight, but I never managed to earn an all out attack. I ran into a bit of bad luck where Teddie was oddly dodgy of my MC's aeon rain. Easily my best attack, and Teddie full out evaded it several times even with Sukukaja up.

I wasn't exactly sure if the lyrics to "Time to Make History" were actually in English

Oh, and the Fresh Prince thing is frakkin awesome.

Huh, I thought the lyrics were the standard half-english half-japanese of most jpop. Now a lot of the lines make significantly more sense. I would never have pulled out "lion's lair" on my own.

According to the SMT wiki, parts of this song are used in the updated P4A. I can't wait for that game to hit consoles, so hype!

I didn't play Arena, because fighting games, but I saw some of the story modes. I wonder if the fighting game story will stay mostly contained to itself, or if P5 will tie in. In other Persona news, I hope the movie makes its way to the States. I would really like to see it. The style looks beautiful.

Edit: Back in P4 - I think Yukiko is trying to slip the MC a mickey

About 3 hours in, and finished the very first castle run. I now have to rescue Yukiko, and have spent one day studying at home. I've now attempted the castle - and made it to the 3rd level. Can I use the item (forget the name) to go back to the save point then easily get back to the third level and continue on?

Should I even be continuing this early in the game?
