Firefall Catch-All

Yeah. I'm pretty bummed I lost my maxed out Rhino and I now have some silly purple gun (photon lance or something?) instead of my Rolling Thunder BAMF purple lmg. Oh well...

Deftly, from your experience, have they changed frames in any way I should know about? Rhino and Nighthawk still the DPS frames?

Honestly, I haven't gotten that far. There were a lot of frame changes, I think to bring them more in line with their intended roles.

In regards to your previous page of questions i'm going to get one my friends and a lurker on the forums to answer them since he does addons and really knows everything about the migration to 1.6

Oh we should be getting Devils Tusk back in 1.7 and then Amazon in 1.8.

The drop rates for things have been waaay tweaked so you should be able to get a bunch of new purps pretty quick. Also apparently level cap is going up in either 1.7 or 1.8

I'm half-way through campaign and I have to say it is infinitely more engaging than the old stuff. It's still not blockbuster A+ quality story but the chosen now have real bad guy characters with different personalities. I like it.

There's still a ton of bugs on mission triggers, cut scenes, etc. I killed a boss so fast Aero was suggesting how to beat him (trigger the cryo liquid to freeze him) long after he was dead.

All in all, this is definitely closer to a product I would expect as a new user. Can't speak much to anything else as I'm mowing through things with a lvl 40 recluse and purposely not crafting or applying modules to weapons yet.

Cayne asked that I come in and answer a couple questions, but it seems as though you've gotten over the most daunting step of migration already. If I were you though, I would make sure that you had the following in your inventory, otherwise I would get a trouble ticket going as it will be weeks before a Ranger gets to you:

- 2 Massive XP Packs for Each Level 40 Frame you had
- 2 Titan Tokens for Each Kanaloa Weapon you had (you get an additional token for salvaging them)
- 1 Pilot XP Pack (dunno the actual name as I didn't get any) for each Pilot Token you had
- All level 40 Perks (now level 45) that you received from leveling a frame to 40

I feel those are the most important issues to look for.

Hm, I knew about the Titan tokens. I haven't used any XP packs yet, but I think I might be short on those. Does that include the basic frames? So if I had every frame at 40, I should have 32 massive XP packs?

I think I may be short on the Pilot XP packs too. I know I had a crapton of the tokens I hadn't spent.

Thanks for the tips.

This is great advice, thanks! I know I received some of the above. I'm not sure if I have massive XP packs for each lvl 40 frame given that I had maxed out every frame except for the raptor and the non-rhino mastodan dreadnaught thingy.

Any advice on how to audit the above? I know I received many items from Kanaloa. Not a clue how many I actually had.

Played for 45 minutes last night. Missions still buggy in some places but fun. I really do like this game. It's just not polished.

I'll ping Steel to come back on here in a few hours, think of any other questions and toss em up here

My mistake, that was supposed to be for the basic/Accord frames and the Arsenal. That was the most salient information and I missed it. Also, I was off, you had to be level 37 or above to get 2 massive xp packs for the qualifying frames. So you should have a max of 12 if you had the Accord Frames at 37 or above and the Arsenal at 37 or above.

Sadly, I'm not sure how you would go about auditing the Pilot Tokens as they've been cleared from everyone's inventories and replaced with the Pilot XP Packs.

As for Kanaloa weapons, you would have to count the number in your inventory before salvaging them to know how many tokens you would be due. For me I had 4 Kanaloa weapons, so I got 2 tokens for each, 8 total. Then I got 3 tokens from salvaging three of them. I refuse to salvage my Inferno Canon even though it's broken, it has my favorite VFX and SFX for a weapon.

I also forgot to mention you should've gotten gold armor crates for the following cores: "Damaged Demolition Core", "Scorcher Nest Core", "Draconis Core" and "Bane Chitin Core".

Worst case, if you feel something is off, just file a trouble ticket, the Rangers have access to your account data prepatch, they can do a once over to make sure you get the migration items you are due.

You'll probably have to wait till version 1.7 for any major fixes, which by my estimate is 1 month to 2 months away.

Steel,

What is your approach to upgrading? When I've asked in zone, the general consensus is that you should upgrade your item and if you don't get the gold upgrade you should wait until you have enough for another upgrade (leverage the silver increase), reset, and try for gold again. The rationale is if you upgrade, keep silver, and go for the additional upgrade all the way to max, it's more expensive each time.

Thoughts?

Also, do you ever use tinker toys to increase the percentage for gold?

Sadly Steel is going out of town for a week so he wont be able to answer. But if i had to guess as to his thoughts. Probably not to worry too much since the level cap of the game is increasing in short order so with new level cap means new gear all together.

So I'm not much for one to raise a thread from the depths, especially for a game I haven't played in nearly a year, but I received this email, out of nowhere, today:
IMAGE(http://i.imgur.com/LZ29GlV.png)

Ember appears to be something akin to the Firefall we all enjoyed back in the day. A skill based multiplayer game about hunting for, and defending, the collection of resources [Thumper] while enjoyably grinding character [Frame] progression. And also being opposed by the the shadowy [Chosen] enemy that only revealed themselves when exploration grew too bold or when a town became too poorly defended. [/reminisce]
It's probably too much to think that Ember could resemble a game like the Firefall I used to know, but damn it, I can hope.

Forum link here.

EDIT: Apparently there is a petition put on by the creator (Mark Kern) to gauge interest.

I checked the site and the teaser trailer and all it says to me is "Hey, remember Firefall? Let's make that again!" I loved the game early on and was a backer but I'm not sure I want to go through that rodeo again.

Especially since this is being run/envisioned by Mark Kern. I wish him well but there was so much drama and toxicity, I will have a hard time supporting Ember until after it is cooked. Even then I will reserve a moderate amount of skepticism.
If it comes to fruition, then terrific!

I played a few weeks of Firefall back in the day and I loved the concept, but it just fell flat and got repetitive. I'm confused though, was Firefall even a success? To my knowledge it did not do very well. Which leads me to ask the question; why make another game similar to one that tanked?

I got the same email yesterday and was planning to bring it up here.

Firefall did well for quite a while, and it's not dead yet, but it's gasping its last breaths. While Kern was around, it was mostly marketing and media (the bus!) and not enough development. After Kern got the boot, it went through several overhauls of major systems before settling on something closer to a traditional MMO for advancement and crafting. But because development focus was on those systems, there was very little content development.

Credit where it's due, Firefall wouldn't have existed at all without Kern. Best case scenario, Kern learned some lessons and Ember will fill the void left by Firefall's earlier format. Worst case, it ends up like your worst Star Citizen nightmare.

IF it affects your opinion of the product at all Mark is a big supporter of Gamergate and hates the SJW scourge.

Ugh. Did not know that.

I would definitely investigate it yourselves if that's something that would cause you to not support this game. I don't know nearly enough about it, I just remember seeing some stuff on twitter a while back. A cursory glance at his twitter seems...not like a person I would like to support. But to each their own.

GG business aside, I have extremely little reason to believe Kern will deliver on this at all. According to multiple sources who aren't Mark Kern, he was the main reason the game design and creation stalled and stuttered so much. Once he was gone, they revamped some stuff but kept further revisions in the same lane. I'd be happy to see something closer to the Firefall I played early on, but I'm not putting money up for it til it's done.

I thought it was a little slimy that they went into the Firefall forums, and mass spammed everyone's profile to 'start a conversation'.

Firefall when Kern was running amok was both good and bad, and probably the best. The game redesigns took a complete turn to the worse after he left, leaving behind the things that made the game fun to me, and trying to wedge in things that just didn't work for me.

I'll keep an eye out for news on Ember, but I expect it will be roughly the same mess, and having gone through that once, I'm disinclined to do it again. But, hey, maybe Kern has learned something, and it will end up being the Firefall we liked. Time will tell.

I am taking a wait and see approach, if it's F2P like firefall was/is then i may check it out but i'm not holding my breath. Red5 burned a lot of good will with me with choices they made.

I have my doubts about whether either Kern or the people in charge after he left really understood what made the game fun in the beginning. The promise of Firefall was dynamic content - fighting to hold back the Chosen on fluid front that was driven by player interaction. That happened to a certain extent, and then they wasted years revamping systems that didn't need to be revamped instead of producing content. I'll wait and see what comes of this, but I doubt they get it so I'm not holding my breath.

Wasn't expecting this email but not surprised.

Firefall was fun in the beginning when everything was still new and all you cared about was risking that thumper you spent days to craft to earn those extra few percents drilled before sending it up. After new weapon and leveling system 6 was implemented, but nothing actually new content-wise in years, it was time to abandon the game.

I hope Ember can become something fun. Only time will tell.

So Firefall officially shut down a few days ago. I'm not sure how Mark Kern's new venture Ember will fare, but I just found out that if you bought one of the Firefall founder's packages or had a forum account before then end of 2015, you're eligible for an equivalent credit in Ember. I just went through the process. It involves having an Ember forum account: https://forums.em8er.com/. You then log into your Firefall community account (the forums are still accessible for the moment) at http://forums.firefall.com/. You post a link to your ember page as your status on your firefall page, and run through the process here:
https://emberbot.jadex.eu/founders/

I don't have high hopes for the new game, to be honest. But if you bought one of the Ensign/Lieutenant/Commander packages, it's free to do.

As a token of our appreciation for the early support of the original, true, Firefall vision, we are offering a FULL CREDIT of your Firefall founder’s pack. Even if you were not a founder, you will still receive a Veteran reward if you joined Firefall forums before the end of 2015. This credit will be applied as virtual currency to be used in Em-8ER’s digital store when the game launches.

Commander - $100
Lieutenant - $50
Ensign - $20
Veteran - $10

Well, did the thing. I guess we'll see how it pans out in a few years.
