Firefall Catch-All

Managed to snatch one as well.

Just had my first crash, and I must say firefall has the most adorable crash/error reporting system. Should have taken a screenshot.

You know you're doing something right when this is the response instead of !@#!@#$!$@#!@#$!!

Stress-testing weekends coming up (starting this weekend). Curious to see how that goes - I know developers kind of want to push things to their limits so they get good info about breaking points, but it's always a risk having folks' first impression of your game be that it's unstable or non-performant.

Red5 employee FadedPez[/url]]Hey all! There are a lot of people out there that are eagerly awaiting their chance to try out the Firefall beta. You now have an opportunity to join our current beta testers and give the game a shot during our Firefall Beta weekends! During these special weekends, players will get unlimited access to the Firefall beta for 48 hours. Each weekend will be themed where players are asked to focus on a particular aspect of the game such as thumping, or Chosen-related events. Come join us as we test our new content as well as stress test our new server infrastructure.

Firefall beta weekends will be held on the following dates:

November 9th, 2012 until November 11th, 2012
November 30th, 2012 until December 2nd, 2012
December 7th, 2012 until December 9th, 2012

Looks like Army content is a llooonnngg ways off:

My google-fu is currently failing, but I could have sworn that at least some of the army features were going to be in the PVE milestone, though full-scale open-world PVP is way off on the development horizon.

In any event, given the gap between the stress-test weekends, I'm thinking that maybe the PVE milestone drops sometime this month, so Red5 would have metrics for before the patch and after it.

So, I think I'm slightly addicted. Wembley hooked me up a couple of days ago, and it's been my main game since then. Just got the Dragonfly T2 medic frame. (StHillary is some Crystite short for her T2 Assault frame, but has the XP for it. They really need to implement trading with the PvE milestone, I've got enough to cover her for it, but I can't.)

Was going to try the PvP stuff earlier, but was in queue for 15 minutes, and nothing.

It's remarkable how much fun it is to just screw around. Sthillary and I can lose hours just wandering around, blowing up Chosen and retaking towers. Can't wait to see how the PvE stuff looks.

Partway through the first stress-test weekend.

Things are much more stable than I expected, which is great. It seems like Red5 is twiddling different variables to see how that impacts server load - last night resources were much higher concentration than usual, and spawns were definitely running light, and I was able to solo an advanced thumper repeatedly to 100% (it was sometimes dicey, but this was in a Tier 1 BioTech frame, and I'm simply not that good). Cleared probably 10k in Ferrite 770, and a bunch of other minerals from other nodes, as well.

This afternoon, hopped on with BigRed and at the same spot, and the two of us had a hard time getting an improved thumper all the way full. Chosen were also as active as I've seen, with the entirety of the north under sustained Chosen control. Even after we cleared a Chosen incursion by Thump Dump, multiple drop pods scattered the area and we lost control of Thump Dump and all the adjacent towers.

[Edit to add: thanks to BigRed for the Chosen hunting run - I now also have the T2 Dragonfly frame unlocked, which gives me another Tier 2 I can still earn XP on. ]

Hey, so I'm going to give this a shot. I'm Phishposer in-game as well.

I have been playing this for a solid week now, blew past the available PvE stuff in about a day.
Been levelling my battleframes with Chosen hunting and thumping.
Trying to max out my T1 Biotech. Got myself a T2 Biotech Recluse and dabbling with a T1 Assault. It's quite fun.

Exploring the map and using the jumppack is sweet, once you get on a tall mountain or a cliff the vistas are generally very pretty.

Add me in-game as Track.

If you're looking to get in keep an eye out on these pages.

Twitter is a good resource for beta keys as well. https://twitter.com/search?q=%23fire...

PS.: the Stanley's Strikers army thread URL is broken.
This is the working URL for it: http://www.firefallthegame.com/commu...

So, the top of Mushroom Rock got updated at some point (maybe in the Firefallfest patch?) - there's a glider pad, and a ramp for doing some sweet jumps.

Also that tent is completely full of empty liquor bottles.

Thanks for the grouping earlier and the Vent chat
I didn't write down everyone's name or add to friendslist (doh! way to make a first impression heh).

Here are the addons I'm currently using.

Glider Helper: http://www.firefallthegame.com/commu...
It helps with setting your angle on a glide if you're having trouble with getting a proper glide going.
This video helped me a bunch too

Weapon Range: http://www.firefallthegame.com/commu...
Tells you what the range is of the thing you're pointing at under your crosshairs.

OmniTrack: http://www.firefallthegame.com/commu...
Does what it says, track your loot drops.

Thumper Status: http://www.firefallthegame.com/commu...
Shows various thumper stats at the bottom of your screen, saves having to look up at the thumper banner itself.

PingMe: http://www.firefallthegame.com/commu...
Just installed this one. Should make it easier to share coords with others.

Another one to keep an eye out for is Surveyor: http://www.firefallthegame.com/commu.... It should help a bunch with keeping scan reading history and location. But it's not out yet.

Installation instructions:
Go to the directory where you installed Firefall, then "system\gui\components\MainUI\Addons\"(if not there make it). Unzip the Addons, so that each has it's own subdir in the Addons.
Start up the game.
You can also do it while playing the game, just do a /rui and they should be loaded in.

I came across a GWJ Google Doc spreadsheet, not sure if it's still used or not but if so take a look and update? https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/...

I love the fact that, even in beta, before a lot of content has been developed, they already have a fairly extensive UI API.

WoW's UI add-ons kept me playing that game far longer than I otherwise would have, and adds a very enjoyable metagame aspect that I can see being replicated in Firefall.

It gets used, just it seems it's been better / easier to track people playing Firefall in the google doc in the OP. I'm partial to this one since I created it.

Oh, and now that I have a new (to me, but temporary) working hard drive back in my computer, I can rejoin people playing this game.

Based on their forums, due to updates this is obsolete. They're working on a new version. Apparently you can't cross blend anymore.

Yeah, that's kinda why I stopped posting a bunch of links, everything just keeps getting made useless.

bigred wrote:

Sadly, this is true.

For a while, you could blend Azurite and lower-quality Coralite, and end up with Azurite that was even higher quality.

Spoiler:

This may or may not be why I have a stockpile of high-quality Azurite. :P

Well, been poking around this game a little more over the past couple days and I can definitely see where it can be fun. Now I just need to get through the tutorial quests to get into the real meat of the game

Friending dimmerswitch will be the best thing you can do to learn the ins and outs of the game. I now have 5 trillion purple ferrite from hanging out with him too much.

Flatterer - I'd make a joke about bribing you with purple ferrite if I didn't already know you're positively swimming in the stuff right now.

More seriously, Psych definitely has a better handle on crafting than I do, but I'm definitely happy to group up with folks any time.

Also, bigred and I had a good time the other night squadded up with Granite (a non-Goodjer who seems like a genuinely good guy), and found two Azurite nodes the other night - hadn't seen any of those since the summer.

Ah yes, but friending Psych won't get you a damn thing. Except pain.

Yeah, I need XP right now. Not resources.

bigred wrote:

In the short term, finding an out-of-the-way tower to farm Chosen may be the best path, there.

Very odd spawn patterns are continuing, even after the stress test.

Most very, very light - bigred, echoback and I were three-manning two advanced thumpers multiple times, without even being pushed too hard. Then Granite joined us and it was a total cakewalk.

We did get a little cheeky and tried to work two simultaneous melded thumps - we nearly wiped, and barely punched that second thumper out (single-digit health, surrounded by melded exploders as it tookoff).

Apparently someone was saying earlier today that in the current build, spawns seem inversely proportional to server population. I know the AI server is on a different box than the world server - I wonder if they've capped global spawns to prevent the AI server going down, which happened not too infrequently during the rageclaw-parade patch.

I'm sure it'll be retuned, and it's kind of interesting to watch the see-saw between lots of XP / light resources (as with the rageclaw-parade patch) and lighter XP / easy resources (as appears to be the case right now).

My preference is definitely for the heavier spawns, though.

Ow! Those name label colors burn!

Couple of things I have found in the forums posted by devs:

The new towers dont seem like towers. They are more like forts. Would be awsome if they put a tower untop of the tower with couple of glider pads.

We've got plans for future visuals to make it more tower like. The gameplay footprint is what's in-game at the moment (meaning the playable space).

A quick explanation of the 'fort-like' construction of it has to do with 1) maintaining about the same foot print as the previous tower, 2) creating a large enough space (exterior ramps and interior rooms / hallways) for multiple players and AI to fight on, and 3) having a space where AI have multiple options to path inside to cap the tower without use of a jet pack. I whiteboxed a few different designs and this one played the best out of all of them during our internal testing, so it made sense to go with it. Our artists have some sweet ideas to make the silhouette more tower-like as we develop them further.

7 man thump group was awesome :D, hope the bug stays intact a little while longer.

Think we hit a squad size of 8 as our high-water-mark last night. Great fun, and this means we're probably quite likely to be able to do Goodjer-only PVP matches in the very near future (in fact, I don't know if when you challenge another squad there's a requirement that both squads be full - we might be able to do it even with less than 10 people).

Granite (who I think several of us have played with already) was resourceful enough to track down GWJ, and find the relevant information from our vent thread. Was great to have him in-channel - he strikes me as a nice, Goodjerly sort.

Other notes from last night:

Purple ferrite is gone. What you have already collected is still around, but all Ferrite spawning in the world now is white quality (Ferrite 267 I think). I haven't seen details of how Red5 is currently handling resource rotation, but it appears that the resource server randomly generates what isotope is going to spawn in for the next interval. It's not clear whether all resources re-set at the same time, as Quartzite is still green (for instance), but the Coralite spawning in the game world is now blue quality. Interested to see how that impacts crafting choices.

Spawns are back. We had an oversize squad, and were still pretty busy on advanced thumpers. We got cocky and decided to give meld thumping a try - advanced thumpers were entirely out of reach, and improved could still go south in an awful hurry. Melded explosive aranhas are clear favorites to win the gold in the 100m dash at the next Copa Track-and-Field championships. On the plus side, I banked probably close to 200k XP last night, which is getting me a lot further into the Dragonfly tree than I thought I'd be.

Speculation is that a patch will drop tonight ("Night of the Melding" event was supposed to only run through last night). Speculation is also that this will be the PVE milestone. If so, it'll be a hefty download again, but I'm dying to see what makes it into the milestone (please say trading and T3 frames).

I wouldn't count on T2 until they've done some more work on T1 and T2 stuff. They've stated before that they want to make sure the based on the 1st 2 tiers is working well first. But who knows.

Damn. Taking the week off next week to visit my future in-laws for Thanksgiving (which is going to be awesome) but won't be back til Sunday. Looks like I'm missing a week of the new content.
