Old stuff

Spoiler:

Remember a couple years back when a few key Blizzard employees working on WoW left to form/join Red 5 Studios? Well, this is their game.

From the site you can get the images auto-sized, watch their CG trailer, watch their game play video, and sign-up for the beta.

It's evident that some of Red 5 were Blizzards leads for a reason. Damn.

Update 3/15/11:

PvP with Assault, Medic, and Sniper

Saw this earlier today. Looks a hell of a lot like Borderlands, which I really liked. Not sure how well this will do as a free-to-play MMO, though.

10-minute gameplay video - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I-CdQ...

It looks pretty fun. Also I love that they just released ten minutes of straight gameplay and said there you go, sign up for the beta Female Doggoes.

Some super high quality art direction there. Probably will have to check it out. Gotta love the rocket-jumping gameplay, too, recalls images of Tribes 2 to me.

Looks good for what it is but I can't muster up any interest for a progression based PvE MMO. It's frustrating to see all these games that are still just essentially EQ / WoW. Why can't someone take a few lessons from EVE and make an MMO that's actually player driven but a better game than EVE instead of just churning out the same sh*t. MMO shouldn't be synonymous with PvE grind, there's so much potential in large scale online interaction that's just being ignored.

Signed up for the beta. Game looks very good so far. Former Blizzard guys, sign me up.

Signed up for the beta! Looks very cool..and I agree about the Tribes vibe.. hopefully the community wont follow.

Wow - that looks cool. Wish it was on the 360.

yep I signed up too, this could be an MMO I enjoy, not sure if that's actually a good thing

It looks f*cking awesome.

Art-wise, this.
Not a MMO fan myself and the "Hey what's up what's happenin'" got me by surprise, but if this has enough varied content and it's free to play it would be a great experience with the GWJ community.

Looks like another bug hunt.

Nuke it from orbit. Its the only way to be sure.

Signed up for the beta.

I wonder what global agenda thinks about this...

Looks fantastic. Love the art style and the kit: guns, etc. Brilliant idea to have a lot of the suit detail on the player's back.

It has a strong 'World of Starcraft' feel to it (to state the obvious )

I've registered too. It does look a lot like WoW crossed with Starcraft (crossed with Dawn of War 2?) in a bunch of ways. And free to play is just the right price!

I don't do betas anymore, but I can't wait to check this out. It looks awesome. I'm also glad that Red5 looks like they're actually going to produce something worth while. I kind of suspected that they would eventually implode without releasing or announcing anything.

Me too yellow5. There have been a couple of other "ex-Blizzard employees" startups that have barely had more than 3 press releases before vanishing.

It should help that they got an influx of cash a few months ago.

What engine are they using? If its unreal 3 the open landscapes are really impressive.

edit: looks like they are using the (sadly) now defunct Offset engine. That engine showed a lot of promise even before and during Intel's purchase of it and then scrapping it. And now, seeing it with extended actual gameplay rocks!

That gameplay vid was crazy.

I signed up for the beta - this looks like what Tabula Rasa should have been.

Well the price is about right for me.

The dropship is apparently just following a scripted path and is not actually flyable =(

Went ahead and registered / signed up. Looks interesting.

Planetside it isn't.

The debut trailer seemed pretty generic, but the gameplay vid was very cool. It starts out looking like an improved version of Borderlands. After they board the ship and head to the city, the WoW influence is very apparent. Definitely keeping an eye on this one.

After watching the gameplay video, when the city gets attacked and their sirens go off, it makes WoW city PvP look dull in comparison.

Signed up for the beta. Looks neat.
Found this interesting.

How much will Firefall cost to play?
We are so excited about Firefall that we want to make sure everyone can play it and join their friends in the game. When Firefall releases, it will be available online for download and play for absolutely free.

Will there be a subscription fee?
Absolutely not. We do not feel that a subscription fee best suits the style of game we are creating.

How do you plan to make money?
We plan to offer a marketplace for Firefall that will offer players items to enhance their gaming experience. We are adamantly against selling anything that might compromise the skill-based aspect of the game.

I am even more intrigued. Free to play for something that looks this good is definitely worth my time. I am curious how they plan on offering items that "enhance the experience" without "compromising the skill-based aspect of the game." Kinda sounds sort of ambiguous. We'll see.

Sidegrades and cosmetic items =P

The animation when the characters' walk seems a little choppy. I realize this is a weird thing to point out, but once I noticed this during the videos, I got a little fixated.

I want. I signed up.

Looks interesting. I'm always up for a shooter.

A worthy successor to PlanetSide has yet to be found. Can this be the chosen one? An infusion of Borderlands DNA is only a good thing. Tough to get excited about a game so far away but this looks sweet.
