NFL 2012 Draft Thread

You've probably already seen this somewhere, but Terrel Suggs tore his Achilles. Out at least half the season, if not all of it.

Not sure how they're going to replace him at this point.

Badly? He's not the kind of guy you can plug-and-play replace. Pretty devastating loss for Baltimore. Really sucks.

I don't understand the controversy if it happened while he was playing basketball or not. As far as I know it is not a risky activity like if he was riding a motorcycle or something that would affect his contract right?

There's a controversy?

Think there was some talk on how much of his contract he would actually get paid this season?

I don't see how that's controversial. Legal stuff is generally black and white where money is concerned. If he's got guaranteed money, he'll get that. Otherwise, he'll get nothing.

As for him tearing his Achilles, I really only have one thing to say:

Dammit.

The Ravens drafted Courtney Upshaw, but he's slated to fill the role of Jarret Johnson, who played the opposite OLB position.

Suggs (along with Haloti Ngata) is the reason that the Ravens can shift from 4-3 to 3-4 looks at will. He's an excessively rare player that is fast enough to stand up at 3-4 OLB, yet strong enough to hold up on the edge in a 4-3.

His sacks are well represented on the stat sheet, but his run stopping ability is less so. By PFF's metrics, he had the second-most run stops of an edge rusher in 2011. Jared Allen beat him with 2 more stops, but did so with 100 additional snaps. 260 pound guys aren't supposed to be that good at setting the edge against 315 pound left tackles.

There's a few players out there that could bring that kind of scheme flexibility, but none of them will maintain the level of pass rush ability that makes the flexibility such a nightmare for opponents.

And that is why I'm ready to write the season off. I don't think there's anyway we can replace that level of talent.

Not quite the same level of player..but the Giants last season were written off during camp when injuries started piling up.. look how awful their season turned out. Over course Manning is 5 billion times better than Flaco.

Did you have to drink a lot to be able to admit that Guru?

With Flacco announcing that he's the best QB in the league earlier this year, I'm certain the Ravens will be in top shape no matter the injury situation.

Rat Boy continues to be MIA, right?

Maybe he'll show up at HedgeWizard's housewarming in a couple weeks?

Do you need me to email him?

I think some folks were saying he's been absent a concerning amount of time.

Emailed.

I added him on xbox live and sent messages but he's not responding even though it shows someone has been playing on the profile. But yeah, at this point it's concerning.

So how was Eli Manning on SNL last night?

I will grudgingly admit he was significantly better than I expected. I may have even smiled once or twice. Maybe.
Kenan Thompson as Ray Lewis was way funnier though.

Here's a nice little puff piece about RG3 and the Redskins in Yahoo. Thoughts?

Mine = the world is not like carebear land but here's to having a spark of hope in DC. (although, option really? Are we only expecting 2-3 years out of him?)

Kenan Thompson is hilarious period. I am so glad he grew out of his child actor garbage.

My Criterion Collection copy of Good Burger scoffs at you.

First thought: the idea of Shanahan being too "rigid" is funny.

I saw plenty of improvising out of John Elway, Jake Plummer, and Jay Cutler. These were not robotic pocket passers.

"Shanahan is too rigid" is gentle code for "Donovan McNabb didn't grasp the offense, and his flailing around attempts at improvising didn't work."

The article name-drops Plummer and Brian Griese as evidence of a problem with Shanahan's "inflexibility", but the problems with Plummer and Griese were not an inflexibility of the system. They simply weren't good enough. For Exhibit A, I submit: the rest of their careers.

When Jay Cutler was running around gunslinging, it certainly wasn't Shanahan looking to chase him out of town. Denver had to chase Shanny out of town first.

Brian Xanders is no longer Denver's GM.

The PFT story suggests that Elway has been operating as the de facto GM and that this move essentially makes it official.

Gee, that's shocking. I was surprised Xanders decided to hang around at all considering he had practically no role with McDaniels around and then Elway came in and hamstrung him.

Poor TO. $80 million gone, can't pay child support to his 3 baby-mamas, doesn't see kids due to his "demanding" travel schedule. Telling it all to Dr. Phil.

Not sure if these logos were posted but I thought they were pretty cool.

"Revamped" streamlined team logos

It's pretty much the opposite of the vintage logos done here

The logos are pretty cool, except ENOUGH WITH THE DAMN GAY PIRATE LOGO for the Bucs. Bucco Bruce is dead, thankyouverymuch.

Raiders always get the badass pirate. Bucs are always Conquistadores.

Hate that Texans logo. I love the real one, although I'll admit I didn't get it at the time - the angle of the bull's head threw me.
