Ravenwood Castle - A GWJ Friendly Travel Destination

Is there a catapult?! There should be a catapult. If there's not a catapult, I'm bringing one with me...

We could do a SoIaF reference and call it Patchface's Playground.

I'd just be a little cautious about foam swords, particularly Nerf foam swords. They have a hard plastic core surrounded by foam. My kid nailed me in the junk with it one day when I was distracted. The sword tip was worn away exposing the plastic core...it hurt a lot. You can put a hurting on someone with those things, if you have a mind to.

Would it be possible to include a catapult to let the little tykes experience flight?

You could name it "Jester's Court" or something along those lines. That would give you an excuse to include a creepy clown.

I love how your worried about kids getting hurt with foam swords and in the next paragraph you suggest the addition of a Kiddiepult.

He wants to protect himself, not the kids.

Delegated! Trichy's job is to bring us a catapult when he comes next month.

There ya go. Spoken like someone who understands.

While perhaps not quite what you were envisioning, there is an Angry Birds-themed catapult game and a Monty Python Cow Catapult.

Or for smaller kids, there are castle-themed play sets from Fisher Price. Their Imaginext stuff is quite durable.

And maybe some Lego, though that would be more prone to disappearing pieces, and also need to be kept away from the smallest kids.

Clearly the true name must be the Land of Ooo.

Thanks for the ideas guys! I like Squire's Square, though I think I'm leaning towards sticking with Raven's Nest.

In other news, we've received our official Raven's Roost pint glasses, and have moved on to other aspects of upgrading the Pub. In particular, we're working on putting up some signs and a giant shield/sign/etc. over the fireplace.

We're having a bit of a disagreement amongst the team and the designer. Since a GWJer came up with the slogan (heya Rubb Ed, remember that free mead for life!), I figured we'd put the issue to the community.

So which of these should be the official logo of the Raven's Roost Pub?

#1 (Flagon)

One more for the flagon here.

I'd go with the cask except for the motto; flagon it is!

Flaggin'!

Err, I mean, flagon!

Yeah. There's no choice because the motto is right on there.

Otherwise, cask all the way.

This is my thought as well.

Same here. Part of me thinks that having the picture of the flagon AND the motto is a bit too literal and/or redundant, but every vote so far is for #1, so there you go.

What about a slightly larger cask, and have the motto somewhere else (as in, on a separate sign, or painted above the bar or something)?

Unrequested additional design input:
If you take out the motto and use a larger cask image, you could then drop the word 'Pub' (as that should be pretty obvious, both from the keg and the fact that's it, you know, in the pub :)) and make the 'Raven's Roost' a bit bigger. I think that would un-busy the bottom part of the sign; right now, there's a lot going on under a relatively simple graphic (the Raven).

This idea has merit, but if rejiggering isn't feasible, I'd go with flagon.

Yeah, I agree actually. I sort of liked #3 for that reason.

See, I was operating on the idea that the slogan was too awesome not to have on there. Given your suggestion and the apparent consensus that the cask is better but for the slogan, what does everyone think of removing the slogan altogether?

The slogan is too awesome not to use, but I think it would work better in non-graphical situations (letterhead/flyers, maybe napkins, etc). Oh, and somewhere big and pseudo-gothic ornate on the pub walls.

I assume this will be going onto a big hand-painted wooden sign hanging outside the pub, right?

Move the keg down a bit, take out the slogan, put the slogan on a something big inside.

Agreed. Bigger cask/keg. Awesome slogan on a separate, large sign.

Agreed. +1. This.

This.

Looks sharp!

Bad time for commentary on the logo?

The composition seems kind of - Left heavy.
Maybe the background buildings need sprucing up? Do these represent the buildings on the site? A skyline if you will?

The ornate R and the raven iteself draw the eye to the left, up and down the whole side. Maybe intentional.
Anyone tried flipping the raven over to the other side?

Besides that minor gripe, it's slick.

I love the slogan but you realize that if we use either the slogan or the graphic we are going to have to get flagons or we will be miss advertising.

Start a Flagon Club.
