Ravenwood Castle - A GWJ Friendly Travel Destination

I am glad to be free of my cube (well it was an office but same work flow) This morning I found out that another couple here last night are also gamers. They were rather bummed we were playing without them last night. So the couple from last night and from this morning spent a hour or so chatting over the chess set with me about games and D&D etc. I told them about Pencon, and GWJ and our Zenke weekend and they seemed interested. I hope they can make it to some of them and/or join the community.

I think we need a Book of GWJ that I can put in every room with the Gideon Bibles because I feel like an evangelist. Or maybe a track I can hand out.

Do you long to find others to game with that have busy lives too?
Do you feel a hole in life that could only be filled by fellow like minded gamers?
Are you tiers of playing with immature kids that just don't get it?
There is an answer and it is available to anyone all you need to do is post.

How is the prospect of getting to use REAL magic going to discourage anyone from playing anything? This guy is a moron.

I believe the rest of this comic gets dark.

Darker than black magic??[i]

Oh yeah! It's a Chick tract. Most of them end with the protagonist in hell.

The makers of this list are idiots for not including Ravenwood: 12 awe-inspiring American Castles

Whatever day I am coming to stay, that will be my birthday

We actually have a cake left over that she made for my son's birthday in the freezer, after that one is eaten, no guarantees, but I can sing happy birthday provided you can tolerate my singing.

So MonoCheli and I went to GenCon in August. We had a blast, and decided that we're going to make it to as many conventions as we can. We're even considering getting a booth at GenCon next year.

In the meantime, we are heading to Con on the Cob in just a few weeks (October 11-14), and already have our booth reserved. If you're in the Northeast Ohio area, you should check it out. This will be my first time attending - despite the fact that it's in my home town - but from all I hear it's a great convention.

If you do attend, be sure to stop by Booth 27 and say hello. We'd love a chance to meet some more GWJers offline.

Sold! Come and get it Or I guess I could hold it for you till Pencon if you would like.

So my wife and I are headed to Ravenwood this weekend for an extended anniversary weekend away. Tomorrow we're dumping the kid off at Grandma's, getting in the car and driving the 8 hours or so to get there.

So here is what we were thinking of doing (for anyone who knows the area to comment on):
On Thursday:
- Recover from the drive
- Drink beer
- sex

On Friday (spending the day around Hocking Hills):
- Enjoy the Ravenwood breakfast
- sex
And here is the list of "potentials":
- Air Balloon Ride
- Aerial Tour (plane)
- Canoeing
- Horseback riding
- Hocking County Historical Society
- Ohio Glass Museum
- Hiking
- Shade Winery
- Spa/Massage
- Drink and game at the Castle
- more sex

On Saturday we were thinking about heading to Columbus for the day with these potentials:
- Ravenwood breakfast cuisine
- The Topiary Garden
- Wyandotte Winery
- the Santa Maria ship
- Olentangy Indian Caverns
- Columbus Zoo and Aquarium
- Book Loft of German Village
- Franklin Park Conservatory
- The Murder Myster Co.
- Columbus Food Adventures
- The Ohio Theater
- Center of Science and Industry

Here is the major loathe. I just found out that there is a big Ohio State game on Saturday. How much will that affect my plans of getting around the city? Should I rearrange things so that we hit Columbus on Friday instead? I'd appreciate any insight.

Sunday:
- sex
- more Ravenwood breakfast
- 8 hours in a car home

You perhaps mean to include this under "Hiking", but I see no mention there of Ash Cave, Old Man's Cave or Conkel's Hollow. I'm fairly certain you are legally obligated to visit at least two of the three on any multi-day trip to the Hocking Hills area.

You're correct. I created a list on my phone and in the interest of brevity, collapsed it all into an uber-category. I probably should have labelled it "Nature".

Would sex fall under the "Nature" category then?

Funny, my wife and I are doing the same thing. However, take out all of the sightseeing stuff and replace it with hiking in some state parks.

No, that category was labelled "Dirty".

Mumford, are you going to be at Ravenwood or another B&B?

We've announced the first annual RavenCon, combined with the Hoop & Stick fundraiser for Child's Play.

Well, we're actually announcing publicly next week at Con on the Cob, but we wanted to give GWJ a sneak peek!

Nevin73 wrote:

Ravenwood. We're heading to the grandparents' tonight, heading out in the morning, visiting some family near Columbus, then getting to the castle. Hiking around Friday and Saturday, then leaving early Sunday to hit the Packer game in Indianapolis.

Eerily similar.

Looks like two agendas need to be amended to include wifeswapping...

I'm sure the thread has long since gone down paths that Teneman would rather not.

Mumford, maybe we can hook for a beer or something.

I have both of you on my list for this weekend. Beer and if you are intrested games with Mono are available.

I agree with Tenmen's hike sugestions I also suggest checking out http://hockinghillsadventuretrek.com/ as we (Mrs. Mono & I) have doen a couple of his hikes and really like him. His naturalists are very good and he does hikes where permits are required so not many people do them.

Beyond that I sadly have not gotten out too much since the move because running a castle takes quite a bit of time.

I like a beer.

Don't try to go anywhere near OSU campus for about 1-2 hours before or after the game. Traffic will be a mess. Pizza places won't deliver on campus during those times. If you are going downtown, you'll have traffic and the sports bars will be busy, but you should be fine. Hope you guys have fun!
