Ravenwood Castle - A GWJ Friendly Travel Destination

Pages

If you missed this thread (some people thought it was about buying a house), and aren't interested in PenCon, then you may not know that Goodjerdom now has it's own castle. Well technically my wife and I have a castle, but as a long time member, Goodjerdom now has a castle by proxy. Mi casa es su casa as it were.

Those other threads are about the experience of buying a castle, some joking, some Flagons, and some hair pulling. Feel free to peruse if you haven't. I'm sure they'll keep going as this experience unfolds. This thread, on the other hand, is blatantly commercial. 's alright though, I've cleared it with the powers that be.

My castle, Ravenwood Castle, is a bed and breakfast in Hocking Hills Ohio. A castle with a medieval village, a Great Hall restaurant, a Tea Room, and a working pub. We'd love to have you come out and stay with us.

Now don't get me wrong, we'd love to have just about anybody come and stay with us, that's how I keep the lights on and the moat monster fed. But we'd really love to have fellow GWJers come and stay with us. To that end - and as a thank you to all the folks here who have helped, educated, or just entertained me over the years - we're making the castle very GWJer friendly.

We are:

  • Offering a standing 10% discount for GWJers (see notes below).
  • Providing the first round in the pub for free if I'm onsite as well.
  • Hosting at least one, and hopefully more, GWJ events on site.
  • Managed by a full time on-site GWJer (MonoCheli)!

Rumor has it there is also a custom made Stan flag being toiled over in a foreign sweatshop somewhere, to be hoisted when a GWJer is on site. I can however neither confirm nor deny this rumor...

So come stay with us. We'd love to have you!

Notes re: Discount - if you make a reservation online there's no place to put in for the discount. To get that, send me or MonoCheli a PM and let us know you're making a reservation. We'll get you hooked up. This not only gets you the discount, it allows me to plan to be onsite to drain a flagon with you if possible.

Also, please be aware that the discount is intended for GWJers, please don't create an account just for the purposes of getting a discount. Create an account, hang around a bit and participate in this wonderful community. In short, become a GWJer. I promise you, good things will follow.

One of the best threads ever.

Very cool Teneman!

Awesome thread is awesome

Just checking in so I can be jealous of everyone who gets to go.

This is awesome.

I petition to rename the castle Goodjerhold. And certainly, if I ever find myself in Ohio I'll look you up... And if I manage to get married in the near future I know where the wedding will be!

I think we need a secret Goodjer handshake to prove our goodjery goodness... The secret part is that there is no secret handshake.

OK, now I really need to find a reason to go to Ohio.

I'd remove the bit about the discount or put 'at your discrection'. (But really remove it.) Because even though you have a caveat, people will ignore it. You'll get calls and people trying it on which, even if you don't let them stay, will be wasting your time. Time is money.

EDIT:

And the first round is asking for trouble as well. I know you're doing it to be friendly and it's a lovely idea, but how big is a round? A group of five? A coach party of fifteen? If your castle gets metioned on the CC - which would be fantastic for you - and this thread/discount is mentioned, that could get sticky.

EDIT:

Sorry - this is me being a pedant - but is it a mediaeval village or a mediaeval-style one? Because if it's the former, I'd be very impressed.

This is so unbelievably awesome!

I will definitely find some time to visit (though sadly not anytime in the immediate future).

Congrats once again on the epicness of your acquisition.

Looks really awesome, and I am near-ish in Columbus!

Worries

It's not like a thread on the forum is binding. Everything is at his discretion.

Congrats on closing the deal. May evil become confused on its way to your new door step!

I have never had a good reason to go to Ohio (business maybe, but not for pleasure). Now I do.

Question. How handicap/wheelchair accessible is the premise?

woot!

That place looks amazing!

Fairly so. One room in particular is set up especially.

I think I see a King Arthur booking in my future when I am back in Kentucky visiting family.

So, I'm actually planning a motorcycle trip with some buddies, and one of the destinations I mentioned that might be worth checking out is Goodgerhold... er, I mean Ravenwood.
Couple of questions though. How many people do the cabins sleep, and how close are you to the Motorcycle Hall of Fame? Also, how would I go about getting the Goodger discount you mentioned? Is there a secret passphrase? "Stan rides in Jesus's Ferrari, eating a Dannon Light N' Fit smoothie," or just whisper "Weinerbomb" seductively to the desk worker.

I've talked to the wife and while we need to discuss it a little more I think I'll be PMing you soon for a reservation. This is awesome and thanks for sharing this new adventure with us.

Working on setting up a room now! And congrats. We will be keeping an eye on future events both goodjer and other events you have planned. Please let us know when you get a news letter type thing going so we can sign up to get on it.

Awesome. I'm now needing an excuse to go to Ohio.

Staying in a castle isn't enough?

Fantastic! Now I want to go to Ohio, which I can honestly say isn't a thought that ever entered my head before. That's a long way for someone from a country filled with castles to go!

Also, played-out meme alert!

Awesome! I'm really hoping I'll be able to make it to PenCon this year and experience the glorious castle facilities.

Awesome Nevin, hope to see you hear!

I didn't know there was a Motorcycle Hall of Fame. Look at me learning things! Looks like that's just outside of Columbus, Google puts it at about 53 miles from Ravenwood. I'd figure just around an hour depending on how fast you drive

Cabins can handle anywhere from 2-6 easily, with a few of them that can go higher than that without too much trouble. Depends on which room you're interested in. Shoot me a PM if you have questions on a specific cabin. Or if you know the one you want, go ahead and book your trip online, then just PM me and let me know you did (along with dates and actual name, etc.) and I'll apply the discount for you.

Or you can whisper "Weinerbomb" to the staff. That could be entertaining as well

I think it should be a mandatory thing, if you want a discount that you have to yell "Weinerbomb" every time you enter the tavern.

This just rocks. Is there a LAN room? How's the wireless? Do you include free months of WoW with extended stays?

If the Tea Room has authentic British scones and Clotted Cream I'm in.

Very cool news!

There needs to be a weinerbomb cocktail on the specials.
