Madden 13 Catch-All

Nope, completely re-did franchise...finally.

If you just want to play out the season, choose 'coach', pick your team, and then choose the 'delegate task' option for everything you don't wan to do.

Yeah they have pretty much made (improved IMHO) the Franchise mode and added some RPG like flavor to it. It becomes more complicated but as mentioned above you can sim anything you dont want to muss with.

I know this is a bit of a necro, but I've created a Madden 13 community for those who are interested:

Community Name: Coaches With Jobs
Community Abbreviation: GWJ
Community Password: stangwj

I know a lot of the folks who are playing M13 are in the league, but for those of us who aren't, this could be a way for us to get a few casual games in.

So I picked this up for the 360 this weekend. I was out of town for a few weeks when the demo came out so I missed the initial hype/anti-hype, whatever. I finally picked up a used copy today. This game is fun. It's weird. Really weird. On the one hand the players have never looked more realistic, especially during the between play cutscenes. On the other hand under default sliders it's easy to juke and spin and I feel like this is the most control I've had of a football video game since earlier NCAA games or Tecmo Super Bowl. Animations are greatly reduced. I've also seen some strange animations. Guys rag-dolling like in Skate, their bodies breaking in half. Offensive linemen blocking each other by getting locked up. The engine is definitely odd and produces some funny results.

In other words it's a fun game that has some odd quirks which makes it feel refreshingly old school. I like it. Playing it far and above NCAA currently.

I received Madden '13 PS3 for a birthday present recently. It is especially important this year to have a relatively up-to-date Madden as I typically play grudge matches when the Steelers lose. And lose they have.

I have Madden '07 and have come to understand its idiosyncracies. Chiefly, though, I trust its control mechanics. In '13, there is significant lag when attempting a pump fake, i.e., Roethlisberger will wait until a defensive lineman is in his face before faking the pump even though I hit L1 one or two seconds before. Other in-play controls seem to work fine, e.g., juke, passing to a receiver, etc., so it may be that there's some hidden mechanical justification for this (though I'm hard-pressed to understand why he can't move his arm when he damn well wants to).

The UI feels particularly clumsy and laggy. This late in this console generation (even if this game's over a year old), and given the annual Madden releases, I'd expect the UI to be relatively smooth, spritely even (no pun intended). There is noticeable delay when hitting Start and waiting for the menu, and there is some arbitrary point for which I need to wait before watching a replay. I understand there may be some processing of the play data but it still feels slower than '07, in this context and in general. And don't get me started about signing (or trying to sign) into Origin or having the game remember that the Steelers are my favorite team and not rather (a) ask me what my favorite team is and (b) ask if I want to save over the profile where I've already specified this.

One thing I do like is having replays available at the end of the game. I've wanted this for a long time and lo, for it cometh to me.

Is this the general perception?

Also, thanks for discussing how to play a season. I don't necessarily want to manage free agent trades and concession pricing, so I didn't even look at the franchise stuff. I've just been playing pick-up games to save the ta-tas.

I'm returning this game to take advantage of the upgrade program. Before I send it in to Amazon can someone confirm that the game does not ship with a printed manual.

Can someone tell me if Russel Wilson of the Seahawks was on the roster in this Madden edition? (I've tried to look around, but's all about 'updating')

Thx

Yup. By the end of the season he was an 89 overall also.

Unfortunately, it looks like Madden is going to be the only option next year if we want a new football game. I swear NCAA 14 and MLB 2K13 is going to force me to keep my 360 forever.

Maybe Madden and RBI baseball will be decent. Sucks to be a sports gamer these days.

Thanks for the information about Madden 13.

I'm playing ESPN 2k5 right now. Good game. (Xbox game that works on 360)

Man that game just ROCKED when it came out! $20 game that was light years ahead of Madden. Then EA gets scared, they buy exclusive NFL rights and the rest is history.

Can't believe it's almost been 10 years since that came out!
