GWJ bugs, feature requests, and updates

Eureka!

The debug console in Firefox says: "The resource at “https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DQTbAi5U...” was blocked because tracking protection is enabled."

So that explains that. Turning off the tracking protection option in my settings 'fixes' the problem.

I am seeing this very often lately, always with pbs.twimg.com images. I don't know if GWJ can do anything, but it is pretty annoying.

That would be something on the image hosts end. Basically if you have tracking prevention turned on they are refusing to serve you images. Nothing the GWJ people can do about that.

If I right click and do view image, it shows just fine in a new tab, just embedded in GWJ doesn't work.

That's probably because tracking prevention is preventing the image request from setting a third party cookie. You're viewing the image on GWJ, but the image host wants to store tracking data with your browser. If you view the image directly, the tracking data is being served from the same host as the image, so it's less suspect.

Any possibility of getting the customizable spoiler tag back? As in:

Oh great. I wrote spoiler too many times, and now it doesn't look like a real word to me any more.

It's a workaround, but you could put them inside a quoute.

Did something happen to the RSS?

We have an RSS?

(For the front page, I'm guessing?)

For the podcast. Can't update since about Tuesday.

I checked it on Downcast just now and it works ok. Haven't had reports from anyone else of issues. What program do you use for podcasts?

There also used to be a set of RSS feeds for newly-created threads. They've been down since the update, and I've mentioned it a couple of times, but I might be the only one who cares. It really was much easier than scouring the whole list of threads for new ones of interest to me.

Using beyondpod... must be an issue with them because it does work in another app I checked.

Try deleting the podcast from the app and re-adding it.

First thing I did.

FWIW the error on Beyondpod's search is "Protocol Exception - Expected ':status' header not present".
It does work in at least a few other podcast managers though.

Update: Whatever the issue was, it's gone with the addition of this week's episode.

I've been experiencing a problem with clicking "### new" in forum listings for large threads and not being brought to the most recent unread post, but something a page or two before there. I'm on Chrome on Mac and Win10, but if it's a settings issue, then it could populate across devices, thanks to Google.

Anyone else?

I think It does that when someone edits a post.

I've also experienced this issue. Logging it for investigation.

Related to that comment, I've been pretty slammed with work for a long while now, making it hard to do much work on the site other than keeping things patched. I should have some time next month to do some functional work on the site and roll out some resolutions to issues and, hopefully, some long-requested features.

I'm also getting extreme amounts of the "click new, get a couple of pages back" problem lately. Doesn't *seem* to be edit-related, just every-time-there's-a-new-post-in-this-thread related.

I think GWJ is on Drupal 7 right now, and this security announcement looks prettttty bad.

Has a dark theme ever been talked about? I'd love a dark theme.

Yikes! Jeff is pretty quick on the updates, we’ll stay on top of it.

Yep, I'll be on it very quickly! The update I did last night was to get us ready for it by assuring we're up to date on everything else (not security-related). So, when this release drops next week I should be able to apply and deploy quickly.

I don't have any insight as to what the release addresses, but I do have direct access to folks who do. They cannot discuss the release until it drops, but I can consult with them once it does. Updates don't tend to result in instability, but I will favor making the site secure as quickly as possible over site stability.

After the deployment I did last night, the cases where I was experiencing this are working properly again. Can anyone else confirm if you are still experiencing the issue?

Yeah, I second this. I'd kill for a dark theme I could use on my iPad. There's a couple of Stylish themes that are pretty good, but I can't use them on my phone or tablet.

Of course all this Drupal security business is way more important.

I love it when sites offer dark themes too.

Forgive the reality, but don't expect a 100% compatible dark theme for mobile devices at GWJ considering the shoestring budget they have just to keep the default skin/theme working. I'm fluent in CSS, so for the last few years I've been using my own CSS profile (implemented via Stylish on desktop Chrome) for a dark gray theme, but that profile hides all of the things I don't want to see, which I'm sure includes things other people would want to see, such as the "hero" image, MMORPG and P&C D&D forums, among other minor things.

That said, I'm happy to share my CSS file, as is, with anyone who wants it. Just PM me.

Yeah, as I mentioned I use one of the goodjer stylish themes I found on Windows, but I'm doing my browsing on iPad more all the time. Once upon a time there was a Tapatalk module for Drupal but it sort of faded away, so I guess Tapatalk isn't an option. What about an RSS reader?

I'm still having the issue, with this thread in D&D. It always seems to put me back a page or two from the actual newest post.

There already is one. Go to your accessibility options and turn on the invert colors option
