GWJ bugs, feature requests, and updates

Attempting to add or remove favorites from the first post of a multi-page post presents me with either an access denied page or a 404.

Adding or removing a favorite from any page other than the first, by showing the original post and clicking the link presented there, always gives me a URL that works.

Ran into a problem with the GWJ Amazon affiliate code over on the books thread.

There was a link to this book:
http://www.amazon.com/Supposedly-Thi...

but the URL created by the affiliate code truncates the book name before the first dash.

The discussion changes significantly from anticipation and speculation, to strategy, bug help, tips, and kudos.

I'm often late to the party, and the game release can occur as far as 80 or so pages in.

This could be helpful in a number of threads;
Before and after a game release
Before and after movie release
Episodic games
Episodes/seasons on TV shows
After dlc is released for games

On my iPhone, for about a week now, I can't play YouTube links in the forum, either on safari or chrome for iOS.

Is there something broken on my side, or is it the gwj's forum going whack?

Thanks for any help.

This could be reasonably solved by a feature that allowed you to jump to a point in a thread starting at a given date and time. It's a lot easier than worrying about setting bookmarks in a thread; just look up the date in question and punch it in.

Then you're off searching when a game was released, when an episode aired, when a DLC became available for download (PC, Xbox, PS3 and now XBoxOne, PS4).

adding a timetable at the end of the Original Post that could only be added and edited by the thread author could help people jump into the conversation without first going into a fact-finding mission.

Giant Bomb. They very clearly catalog release dates and DLC dates.

If an OP is still active in the thread and willing to maintain bookmarks, they can pretty easily build a simple timeline in the OP by just putting links to applicable posts later in the thread.

Yeah just need active OPs to edit. I always go back into the Fall TV thread and link to the Spring TV schedule, buried several pages deep. And again for Summer. Seems to work well enough each year.

sweet, didn't know about that.

now all we need is a calendar for tv episodes and another for movie release dates by country.

if building a bookmark system is too complicated, affects the existing code too much, or if we agree it's just too much trouble, then so be it; but let's not over-complicate things and still call it a "simpler alternative".

It would appear that the Video Game Deals thread has been locked. Sad times.

For the good of cheap gameness, could it be unlocked once more?

:-)

There's a new one. Maybe the old one broke or something?

D'aw man, I liked the decor in the old one.

Thanks, though.

I assume the "#!"?

For me, by process of elimination, it seems to be the exclamation point and the apostrophe.

I stumbled across a weird spammy thing on the site (found doing a google search).

Dude, that is probably the most awesome spam ever. I've never seen a spambot mix The Gunslinger and Nike Shox so deftly. And the links are all to equally strange mixes of stories and adverts. I hope those posts never go away-- it's like a strange treasure trove in what commercial television thinks is the mind of Hunter S Thompson.

Oh wow, I see now. This node allows (any?) users to create child nodes... and those child nodes allow child nodes... etc etc. So there's a whole rat's nest of spam underneath it, which seems to be updated periodically.

That's the old library feature we used to use on the old site. Think wiki. It pretty much died out back in the day for a variety of reasons.

It should handle all of the formats listed in this post, and if you want the video to start at a given point, just add "&t=1h2m3s", with the appropriate hours, minutes, and seconds (all parts optional, defaults to seconds if it doesn't find 'h', 'm', or 's').

Examples:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3sQEb...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3sQEb...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3sQEb...

Wrapping them with the "youtube" tag will embed them at the proper starting point, instead of telling someone to fast forward to the good parts.

Thanks, Bonus! I'm not sure why I keep calling you DoggettCK over here... I can't keep multiple handles straight!

Does the time stamping thing still work? I tried this morning on the Let's Play on The Hunter, and couldn't get it to work.

I tried with the URL that youtube will give you from their shared option: http://youtu.be/b7IHTXDn_p0?t=38m30s

Then I tried with http://youtube.com/b7IHTXDn_p0?t=38m30s
Then I tried with http://www.youtube.com/b7IHTXDn_p0?t...

None gave me anything other than the start of the vid. See?

And I do it now and it works. Using the URL from Youtube (the youtu.be)

That embed starts at the beginning for me, as did the fox one I posted yesterday that I tried to start at 0:20s in.

Would it be possible to allow for making wiki posts? It would be great to make a thread for co-op times or GWJ plays and make it so that anyone say consultant or above could edit or update.

Weird, I wonder if you go to the actual Youtube page and come back if that's what fixes it? Because that's what I did in between it not working and working.

Looks like it's getting embedded as http://www.youtube.com/v/b7IHTXDn_p0..., without the timestamp code. I'll take a look at it when I get a chance.

this may be just a weird glitch on my end, but on my iphone, recent activity seems to be redirecting me to a logged out page. not at home so can't check on a real computer at the moment.

edit: normal/fine now. weird.

I experienced this a couple nights ago on my iPad. Sure enough, it worked itself out.

I received my fourth e-mail notification of a GWJ private message today, first received from Certis' company-wide mail about the donation drive. I had noticed and read the PM even before I got my first notification though.

Anyone else having this (minor) issue?

edit: nevermind, it's for a second account I created years ago to make a lame joke. The name of that account is NOTdejanzie

Can you add the "Link to this post" link back to the mobile site?

Was there a site update recently to let brand-new accounts use BBCode Quote and Img tags?

Reference: http://www.gamerswithjobs.com/node/2...

There are certain threads that when rendered by Dolphin browser on my (1st generation) Nexus 7, launch my torrent app (don't ask) and tries to download a web_kit file of sorts.

I can't actually download anything.

I'll write down the threads if it keeps happening.

Not sure if this is an iOS 7 glitch, or if anyone has dealt with it - I can't view embedded YouTube videos in the site anymore. I just see empty space.

Thoughts?
