The Big Board-Gaming Catch-All

I've seen sails of glory once or twice and almost pick it up every time. I'm nervous I'd never get my group to play it though. It sounds so cool based on the breakdown you guys are giving.

This thread is full of enablers... I'm going to see if the local shop still has their ding and dent copy I always look at.

I'm hoping to finish this game off soon and move to other things. The last games were more enjoyable because we're all doing stupid stuff, like get all the research cards, raiding each other and trying to build late campaign colonies instead of advancing the story.

Our last few games have been good, too. Maybe it's just that we all have a better idea how to get things done?

We're definitely closing on the end now, with only the final island to be discovered now (although we opened two last game so there are a few exploration spots open). I guess it will take us a few more games before anyone is in a position to go for the final island at difficulty 30...

Especially because:

Spoiler:

We have only found one chart to it so far.

Conan was okay - I get the praise over it but it still didn't feel all that different from other minis/skirmish games. I do like that the different scenarios are well designed and VERY different. Don't know how well that translates into replay value.

Now think of this style/scenarios played with a batman theme. Personally I think it will REALLY improve it. They are going to KS early 2018 from the last news I heard. Problem is its going to be pricey.

Yeah, I have no interest in the Conan game but I'm interested in a batman theming.

Mountains of Madness and Forbidden Lore expansions from Eldrich Horror turned up.

Daamn! That'll boost the card-variety up somewhat, even without the new board section! Nice!

I wish Android: Netrunner was cooperative. I've never played A:N, but it looks so clean and cool, and I'd rather have a cooperative version of it. I don't even know what it would look like, but it would perforce be different from the competitive game, and it would be more substantial than just re-skinning Hogwarts Battle. I know there's Shadowrun: Crossfire, but I want the Netrunner style of cyberpunk and not Shadowrun's; plus whenever I read up on Crossfire something turns me off of it (the art, the difficulty, etc). Richard Garfield, sudo make me a cooperative Netrunner.

I..er..might have just ordered the next-in-the-release-order expansion for Eldritch Horror (strange remnants).

Halp!

My wife and I played Eldritch Horror this past weekend after we initially had a bad experience with it a few years ago. We really enjoyed it this time, and of course it wasn't available. It's likely I'll pick up a copy when I spot one.

Expansion-wise are there any must-haves? Im not sure if Im interested in map expansions, it already seems plenty big, but anything that might add well designed stuff to the overall gameplay would be welcome.

As an example, Elder Sign is a fine game but it's expansion Gates of Arkham is basically Elder Sign 1.5, refining the rules in such a way that it's indispensable while adding welcome new content.

At the very least I would say The smaller boxed expansions are probably essential because they really bulk up the content in the base game as well as adding the occasional new mechanic into the mix.

I've not tried the mountains of madness specific stuff yet, so I can't really speak for that at the moment

I've got Mountains of Madness and Cities in Ruin, but haven't played with either of them yet. From the reviews I've read, Cities in Ruin is supposed to be the best little box expansion.

generally speaking, the small expansions are more of the same whereas the big expansions change up the game a bit more.

Under the Pyramids is probably the best one to get for the big expansions, as the side board integrates much better with the regular game flow and you're more likely to use it.

That wouldn't really be Netrunner in any form. I'm not sure how you do many of the mechanics that make the game Netrunner, such as the asymmetrical players or the amount of hidden information, in a co-op / PvE game.

The best thing you can probably hope for is a co-op game set in the Android setting and go from there.

As I recommended to pyxi, Forsaken Lore is near essential as an early expansion (yay first expansion syndrome). It adds a lot of new Encounter cards (nearly double the average of the other small boxes) which helps keep the game fresh early on.

After that I'm not really sure. My guess is that you'll probably at least want to try one of the big boxes since those add an optional side board to the game. I'll second GrandmaFunk since Cairo is probably the easiest one to reach in any given game.

The game is very modular and even with most of the expansions in our possession you don't play with all the components each game which is nice but it also means I have a hard time recommending things. Might be worth looking over the [url=https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/e... (they're all fairly short) to get a sense of what components are added in each expansion (there's a fair bit of overlap).

Rodney's Charterstone How to Play is up! Expected release date is December 12th (I would just stick with sometime in December ha ha.) My #1 most anticipated game!

That's what I'm hoping for. It's much more likely to happen than Mrs. Gravey happily playing a competitive game heavy with cyber-jargon against me.

Oh yes, gotta mention this one to my wife. It's releasing on my birthday. Once we finish up Seafall we were looking at this game as a follow up.

If you need more stuff to buy (obviously :p ) I think Arkham Horror Card Game is probably even better than Eldritch Horror. Eldritch Horror is fun, but the events on the cards rarely have much to do with your current scenario in particular; Arkham Horror Card Game improves on this by having unique scenarios with their own sets of cards.

I made the mistake of finally watching the shut up and sit down' review of the AH Card game core set and something, possibly an eldritch something, made me order a copy. :O

I want to try this, but no one in my group was interested. I just saw FFG is releasing a promotional game night package to game shops, and my local store is getting at least one. Would be pretty nice to meet new people and play a cool looking game once a night.

I have never really gotten into Lovecraft the way many on here have and I have avoided CCGs as rabbit holes I don't want to go down. This I jumped all over after the SUSD review and talking to the FLGS owner who is of a similar mindset to me. I have sat on it as it was a gift for my son's birthday. Looking forward to playing it this weekend. We played the Harry Potter game together and while fun, was ridiculously easy with no real challenge. This looks perfect.

His other gifts were Century: Spice Road, Cottage Garden, and Photosynthesis (due to arrive in October). The first two we may even get my wife to the table to play.

I keep waffling on getting a copy of the core AHCG. I think I want it, but I'd only be playing it solo, and I'm not sure how much time I'll really have for it.

Anyone in the northeast interested in going to Pax Unplugged in November? It's in Philadelphia from the 17th to 19th. I think it would be pretty cool to meet up with some people and play some new games.

Hogwarts Battle? With all the rules?

Yup, with all the rules. Reread multiple times to make sure. We have played a number of deck builders as well. Only got to the second location card in one game (Year 2 or something). Steamrolled with Harry and Hermione.

I'll be there for sure. It's really surprising to me that there are still any tickets left, let alone three-day badges! I'm hoping to get some Shadowrun RPG in, and I'm likely to bring Star Trek Ascendancy since there should be table space for an epic 5-player game.

We're about 50-50 in our two-player Game 7 games (Games 1-6 were breezes). When we do win, it's often a steamroll, but sometimes it's an intense come-from-behind win. That's probably my only criticism of HPGB, its swinginess—sometimes you know you're going to win early on (like getting the Elder Wand in the first couple of turns) and the rest of the game is a cakewalk; and then sometimes the starting villains destroy you and then it's a death march.

Apparently Monster Box of Monsters makes the game even more challenging, but I haven't had tried it yet.

I'm thinking there are still tickets left because it's the first year of them doing this so people are not sure how it's going to be. I still haven't ordered mine, but I'll be there with my wife and a friend. I'd like to get a game of Scythe in. I'm interested, but would rather get a game in before I drop the money on it.

I can't justify flying in for that, so I just need one of you to send me a case of Krimpets. PlxKThx.

ps. And Boost.

I will definitely be there Sat. with my wife. I am trying to go Friday as well. I know at PAX East (at least 4 years ago) there have been some GWJ Tables with someone snagging them early Placing a GWJ Sign and just keeping bodies at it all day for a place to meet up.

Being a PA resident that isnt too far from Lancaster, I could ALWAYS facilitate this request.

The fiancee and I are eager to bust out the MBoM as we managed to go undefeated in games 1-7 as Ron and Hermione.

Skiptron and bhchrist, how many times have you guys played Game 7?

Roll for the Galaxy is coming to iOS, Android, and Steam.
