Guild Wars 1 Hall of Monuments Catch-All

I need to pick me up the Ritualist heros. Never realised how useful they are.

Wayfarer's reverie stuff was a nice change of pace for me, stopped me chewing through old games on my pile for a while.

5 days remain.

I played a Rit through factions the first time. It's pretty nuts how much a decent support rit can make everything go smooth.

As a monk I find Rodgort's Invocation(sp?) and the burning very tough to deal with. I'm running 2 Eles with frozen armour, but they're a bit dumb to use it, need to optimise their bars.

It"s a little micro intensive but with access to flagging you could flag your party back. Have a monk cast protective spirit on you, pull by yourself, wait till they hit you with the first few nasties, and then unflag.

As a side note...

The prices on goods are really starting to go topsy turvy. Ecto is tanking pretty fast.. some people have even started trading 1:1 ecto for shards. If you have access to the war in Kryta content (EotN), you can make a mint and that could help most people collect quite a few HoM points. Completing the war and Kerian Thackeray quests on two of my spare characters netted me 20 Medals of Honour, enough for 2 oppressor weapons, and enough war supplies to get a 3rd in short order. These weapons are selling like hotcakes now within minutes for 100k + 3-10 ecto. In addition you'll get 23 royal gifts per time you complete the arc, they sell for 4-5k each.

Also... finally made it to 50 HoM points (silly but I was so close I had to try). I have a little bit of wealth left so I dont mind using it to help fellows getting 1-2 points here and there.

After doing the sightseeing tour, something I wonder about GW2 and you can extend it to games in general is how much stuff is out of the way. GW1 is fairly lo-fi compared to modern standards, and I'm sure a lot of the sights are reasonably cheap to put in, so I'm sure there's not much problem with some level designer just going for it and spending a few hours/days adding a little extra.

It seems like now in games with everything being so pretty, so expensive and high stakes, that everything has to be front and centre, put in front of players so they can appreciate everything and make sure they don't miss a thing. It's to the extent where they use an attention grabbing prompt in some games now to spin your view to show you, and GW2's equivalent of this is vistas, although there's a reward aspect to it.

The other thing that leads onto is how much all those little out of the way things contribute to making Tyria a world rather than just a gameplay space. There's evidence of previous civilisations thousands of years before, currently with just broad details around the outlines. There's lots of stuff far off the beaten track that are under the effects of the campaign for that region.

I hope GW2 can live up to that.

Based on what I have seen, there are a fair amount of out of the way things to see but the point of interests and vistas mostly lead you there. That being said there are nice little nooks and areas so if you limit your exploration to only what is marked on your map you will miss out.

I guess I was tying those out of the way places with the long history of the world, just thinking of the temple of lyssa, which is a fair old trek, at one point was presumably a populated area where people would visit. I suppose by having it remote, it intrinsically says something about the history of the world.

Since it sounds like you've completed it Scratched, I'm hoping you can answer 3 questions:

1. How long did it take? If I can do it in a couple hours I think I'll give it a shot.
2. Do you have to beat all the campaigns? I've beat Factions and Prophecies but not Nightfall.
3. Which brings me to - can I do it using multiple characters? I completed the different campaigns with different character.

1. It took me about 3 hours (I did it in multiple shot stints, so that might not be completely accurate.) But really, it depends upon how many outposts you have unlocked near the places you have to visit.

2. I don't think you have to have beat all the campaigns, but having done so will give you more of the outposts closer to spots you need to visit.

3. I don't think you can do it across multiple characters. (But I'm not certain.) I know you can only complete it once per account.

1. If you have a decent setup you can certainly do it in an evening. The Tyria locations are the most annoying.
2. Some of the nightfall location require to be somewhat advanced in the story to be able to access them. Contrarily to Tyria, Nightfall was quite "gated" you couldnt just run to the end and do the last few missions.
3. Confirmed, only one reward per account and neither the end gift or the tormented weapon that spawns from can be traded.

1: Lots of running around. It's a mix of locations, some you'll be fighting your way there, some you can just run most of the way. There's a few in peaceful areas, but most are remote
2: Prop goes to crystal desert/souther shiverpeaks, but not the ring of fire. Factions goes to the imperial palace, which is 1 or 2 missions from the end. Nightfall goes to the desolation, but not into torment itself. EotN goes into all 3 areas for each race you recruit, and into one dungeon area (the bloodstone). Wayfarers relies upon at least mostly completed campaigns, and there's some areas you can only get to by the campaign rather than exploring.
3: I've done one campaign per character, and then (almost finished but 2 missions) EotN on my dervish. For each part of wayfarers you get a 'proof' token, that you can put in your bank, and the character you want to get the weapon on takes all 4 to embark beach.

Well, I'm now officially poor. But I have 19 HoM points. Considering I only thought I'd be able to get up to 10, I think I'm doing pretty well.

Just hit 20 last night. The last 10 will be a little bit of work, as they are mostly titles, but I'm pretty close to a couple. Then some armor sets...

Uggh- thought I was closer than I was to ending of EOTN. Still need to summon great dwarf and defeat the destroyers. I may be looking for a group to help me with the last mission.

I really need to finish this as I have 4 cloths of brotherhood and stuff to make a destroyer weapon, but my understanding is i need to finish the campaign first.

I am available to help this evening. The stuff you mentioned isn't too long. Just set a time here or pm me.

Cool Tyops - I'm going to try to be home at a decent time this evening - 5 pm Pacific, which is 8 EST. I'll hit you up in guild chat.

Finish the campaign, for what? You should be able to use the cloths already -- I'm about halfway through the campaign, and already clothed 3 of my heroes...

Well, except I ran you through a shortcut to the Central Transfer Chamber, Merphle.

And to make a Destroyer weapon, you need to beat the last mission.

Shhhh! He doesn't need to know that. >.>

Finishing EotN also allows you to start the war in Kryta and a couple of other things.

I haven't finished EotN and I've done some of WiK

- Not having completed The Battle for Lion's Arch

It's truly sad that with the Guild Wars 1 server down for maintenance, I'm jonesing for a 7 year old game. I guess it's my methadone until the 25th.

Looking at the rare materials vendor on the Eve of GW2....

Ruby 13k
Sapphire 14.5k
Diamond 12k

Obsidian shard 7k
Ecto 5.5k

Hilarious.... well unless you have to buy some of those.

I give up. Tried going after Cyndr the Mountain Heart for 2 hours tonight solo and kept getting my butt handed it to me. It's incredibly frustrating but with GW 2 coming out tomorrow I know I'm not going to find groups to finish this thing.

Looks like I'm at 17 HOM points. f*cking sucks.

My sympathies, I was stuck there for a long time too. The annoying thing is that I don't know if the time I got him down it was a certain alignment of the stars in choosing just the right group, or just luck. It's a downside of the GW1 death system that you can't get back for another attempt without the incrementing penalty, or chewing through the whole dungeon again.

Same as me for the moment. I think most of the later rewards are a bit hit-and-miss, especially if they're cosmetic.

Well, maybe somebody can just run me to the central transfer chamber. I'm willing to trade several extra minipets for the effort. As much as I hate giving up on a game, if I can just get to the chamber I can turn in my cloths of brotherhood.

What I'd say is to give it a break, especially with the new one out within 22 hours. Go play something else for a while and come back to it, I sometime find that when I come back my head is clearer and I'll usually get past the blocking mission.

Yeah, 17 points myself. I took down Cyndr with a group of touch ranger and degradation necro heroes, but it did take a few tries.

jd, bear in mind that you can go back and add to your Hall after GW2 is out, so if you're ever in the mood/really desperate for the 20 point pet you can go back.

I got to 12 HoM points last night, myself. I think I might be able to scrounge up another 2 or 3 points (I don't have any armor or weapons to dedicate yet), but this is probably about the limit I'm going to hit.

One quest away from Elonian protector. It's the one with the two runners that split off. for the life of me I can't get that one. I'm also 5% from the cartographer title. those two will get me another three points. That, with the oppressor weapon and I'll be at 24. Maybe this weekend.
