A few notes about the trailer...
Since the same questions and comment appear in the main trailer thread... I'll do this for you.
1) Yes, it's all in-game assets.
2) Yes, that is the actual HUD for the Atlas
3) Yes, it's a "low altitude drop"
4) Yes, that is a Hunchback in the background.
5) Yes, that is a Jenner in the background.
6) No, this is not a pre-rendered video with post effects. It is all in-game engine, the same engine driving the game.
7) Yes, we know that the term was "nominal" but unfortunately couldn't source the term for audio.
8) We are sorry, we didn't realize you guys wanted to look at a naked dude in a vest.
9) You guys have no clue how close to gameplay you're actually watching
10) No, you can't have the music.
Doesn't the Army airdrop M1 tanks with giant parachutes? They weight in at about 70 tons.
Or is the A-Team movie lying to me?!?!
Not an authoritative source, of course, but Google gives me this: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/in...
C130 cannot transport a Abrams tank.
cthulu, i doubt you really do that for living. http://www.futurefirepower.com/us-ai...…the largest piece of fighting vehicle i have seen pictures of being paradropped is russian SPRUT-SD tank destroyer.
the parachutes more or less stabilise the vehicle on its descent. at certain height above terrain, the palette carrying the vehicle ignites braking rocket engines that slow down the vertical speed to a speed that can be negotiated by vehicle's suspension.
the only tank in the US inventory that was designed for PARADROP (not airlift!) was the Sheridan.
Edit: As I was about to close the tab I happened to notice that a couple results down from the above was a hit that I thought relevant to your second question: A-Team Flying Tank Myth
Well poo. What are you going to tell me next? A 1911 firing pin is not the best tool for picking handcuffs?

Only half a lie. The system is called LAPES and its to slow down a very low air drop.

I know this is from the OTHER Mech game (one of, what, 4 or 5 now?) - but it made me smile:

Say what you want; I trust Liam Nesson and I know he would never ever lie to me.

As Zircher points out, LAPES is very low altitudes. Additionally, while a C130 cannot drop an M1, the C-17 can. That said, the C-17 LAPES program was scrapped during development, as there's really no need to drop an M1, which is really all the C-17 offers over the C-130.

This. This. A thousand times this. This might be what I've been wishing for since Mech Commander. Oh God please.

I looked. I failed. I'm now in your debt.
...You know, I think this is holding up my general observations of supposedly bad timeframes being utterly awesome for me. Friday the 13th? Always goes well. End of the world year? Two awesome looking Battletech games, and Tribes.
Hell yes.

okay, not the subject matter expert by any means...but gonna take a stab at these questions... if i'm wrong let me know.
- as noted above, only tank in US inventory that was designed for airborne operations is the Sheridan. these days its only used as a mock-up T-72 in the Mohave Desert for training purposes. it no longer is pushed out of aircraft.
- sheridan to the best of my knowledge could not be pushed out of a C-130... C-17 yes.
- m1 abrams hell no. im not sure it would fit in a C-17...i thought only a C-5 galaxy could fly 'em...but only two at a time, and i believe they had to be partially broken down. otherwise these things need to go by rail or by ship.
oops i really don't know anything... according to wikipedia:
- sheridan is used as a T-80 mockup, not T-72, for training purposes
- sheridan could be pushed out of a C-130 as well... amazing.
- 1 abrams can roll out of a C-17 battle-ready, 2 can roll out of a C-5 battle-ready.
interesting. always thought they had to be partially disassembled... who knew?
anyways we're off on a tangent. I'm signed up and looking forward to a little mechwarrior online when its released... i fondly remember the days of mechwarrior 2 on pc... my friend and i would both be on the pc keyboard... i'd gun, he'd drive... woo hoo!

Cry engine 3 is actually pretty well optimized. I am very happy they are using that engine. A part of me thinks they scooped up the people from the Crysis mod Mechwarrior Living legends. Those screens looks awesome.
Oh, my copy of the Battletech 25th anniverary set will be here tomorrow.
That PA article has me even more excited. I'm glad they aren't setting it up for wallet wins.
Oh, my copy of the Battletech 25th anniverary set will be here tomorrow. Weekend reading!
[Edit] Dammit, wrong MW thread.

The Amazonification seems to have broken the link, so this one:

Oh, I can get the real link from this quote though. Yeah, that one but CSI beats Amazon pricing.
Cool. Can you tell me if the books are different than the free PDFs linked here?
Thanks.
