What old PC game do you want Kickstarted from the grave?

Granted its been re-done already (2004) however its been long enough to do it again in my book.....

Sid Meier's Pirates

Man I loved that game

There's going to be a new Heavy Gear on the way! http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2012/08/08/new-heavy-gear-game/#more-119106 More importantly, now I'm looking at buying boxed originals on Amazon because I missed out on them the first time around!

Of course it won't happen, but I'd love to see Microprose's Magic the Gathering. I really loved the overland Shandalar style for playing.

I wasn't a real fan of the walking around stuff, but I loved that you could pull together a totally broken deck of vintage cheese with 4 contract from belows and unrestricted moxen/time walk/ancestral. So broken. So fun.

I'd go for System Shock 1 before that... Nothing beats the original.

Escape Velocity. There's plenty of first-person space games that are similar that've been done recently, but not a single top down arcade style one that has the huge open world feel of EV. Also the whole Marathon series.

YESSSS. HG2 is my favorite mecha game ever.

As for the subject of this thread, I'd LOVE to see either a true sequel to Freespace 2 or, even better, a true sequel to Starflight 2.

I can't decide who is more right!?!?

Honorable mention to:

Because holy crap, that game gave me the closest to what I wanted from a MTG experience on my computer. RPG trappings, dungeon exploring, quests, story line, abilities, and starting off with a weak-ass, random deck and seeing if I could survive. I'd love to see it updated with the new sets, and a meatier RPG shell slapped on top of the whole affair. Shandalar delighted me as much as the most recent Duels of the Planeswalkers disappointed me. I want stuff to do besides the battles! Let me buy cards, do quests, buy food, completely customize my deck, become excited at discovered gems/bazaars/random cards, hear rumors, visit bucolic little towns, explore dungeons, etc. Give me side-quests where I am fighting specific foes under specific handicaps, and wrap it all in a meaty, dialog-driven shell. Bring that world/flavor text to life! Shandalar was awesome and a game I will not forget... until... this.. very.. dayyyy! (cue Dead Milkmen music)

I'd have to go with Starflight. Ancient Art of War is another one that I piled a lot of hours into when I was a kid. Mail Order Monsters is a C64 game that I didn't own, but after playing it a couple of times at a friend's place I never forgot.

I agree with all parts of the Shandalar speech.

Looking at the GoG wishlist made me sad, and realized that I don't want a remake of most games, just access to them.

Neverwinter Nights 2 disappeared from all digital distributions. I have all three discs, but they are quite damaged and rough to install from in a way that works.

Solar Winds had an awesome premise, but I'd prolly rather just play the orignal than see a remake.

Also, Wacky Wheels remake anyone?

Hey, a Wings remake. I never played the original, but it wasn't for lack of wanting to. Might chip into this one, though I'm beginning to wonder if it will get funded.

Dungeon Keeper - series
Myth - series
Homeworld - series
Sacrifice
Mechcommander
Kohan - Ahrimans Gift (not Kohan 2)
Wing Commander
MOO
Master of Magic
Allegiance
X-Wing/Tie Fighter
Star Crusader
Planescape: Torment (don't touch the dialogue/story)
And I would say baldur's gate but thats coming already.

Sirtech's Wizardry franchise needs a Kickstart.

XF5700 Mantis. I loved that game.

I know Golden Axe has been done recently but would it be against the rules to want one done right? I mean I think we can all agree that we want these resurrected games done right, right?

Maybe Golden Axe is a bad example since it, along with many other games like Double Dragon, spawned countless other games. I am spinning in circles to remember the first "brawler". Karateka, Rush n Attack? Memory failing...

Wow. Somehow I missed that. Steam page is completely gone. Game still looks like it will install though (already purchased).

Hmm. Guess this is one of those downsides to digital distribution that we have to worry about.

Karateka

Currently being remade, but the original maker, Jordan Mechner.

Streets of Rage is one that has had an unofficial remake, originally blessed by Sega, but then "cease and desisted" after they released v5 (forum FAQ). It's still available around the internet, but not from the makers themselves.

Oh man, Karateka! I ran through that game so many times, I could probably beat it blindfolded

I love you so much right now.

Star Control 2

A really innovative take on the elements I thought made the game great. Using inertia, the diverse ship choices/abilites of the super melee and even a nice revamp of the story mode. 8D..

Something like a cockpit view or at the very least a 3d version of the space combat. Even though it seems a tall order to translate it and really do justice to the ships abilities/balance.

Just to add this opinion in since I feel the need..
Down with space games that fly like air planes! -.-
Its Sci-Fi I don’t care if the g-force of what I'm doing would make pilot flavored cockpit Jello(tm), make up some barely plausible inertial damping thingy like everyone else does! 8p

What is wrong with you people.

We need a remake of Commander Keen, and if any one disagrees I'll crush you with my pogo stick.

Well, if you own it already, it's no big deal. If you missed out, well it's not any different than it is for games going out of print. Still sucks for sure, though.

Oooh, yes! And I don't know if we've done Jazz Jackrabbit, but since we're talking about FPS developers and their cartoony platforming origins, lets get some more Jazz too.

Jazz Jackrabbit

THeme Hospital

Dungeon Keeper 2

Descent 1

Still highly playable, just grab the hi res, lighting, and texture mods.

I'd love to see some of the older car combat games come back. Especially Autoduel and Interstate 76. Autoduel in the Renegade Ops engine, and Interstate 76 in the Driver San Francisco engine.. And I definitely concur with the gold box suggestions!

Speaking of Jordan Mechner, The Last Express would be another fun one to see updated.

Turrican with music by Chris Hülsbeck once again. This could even work as a third person over-the-shoulder shooter.

MrShoop wrote:

Interstate 76

I could get behind that.

I want the Infocom packaging. All of it. The 3-D comic book, the glow in the dark stone, the button that says "Don't Panic.", etc. Put all the games on a flash drive and give us the best packaging and manuals ever. As a stretch goal, they can add Invisi-Clues.

Yeah, throw Jill of the Jungle in there too and we'd be all set
