The All New Gabriel Newell's Digital Wonder Emporium, aka, The Steam Update Thread

I help make one of those slots simulators on ios! Don't kill my job security!

Yeah, and I helped write the slots code on our rewards platform; don't ban them too quickly!

You people are all morally bankrupt.

Hey, we all gotta make a living.

I don't see the difference in this and an MMO with a F2P currency thing. Those are on steam.

Maybe outside the US there might be an argument... but I don't think there are any places like that really... I mean who wouldn't want to live here?

Fortunately I filed for chapter eleven so I could discharge my karmic debts while rebuilding my moral capital.

You could easily make a comparison to TF2's crate system, although that at least allows users to "cash out" via the marketplace even though the "money" never leaves the Steam ecosystem since it's just SteamBucks that go in your Steam Wallet.

I've funded my Steam Wallet almost exclusive by selling TF2 items for about three years now. I needed $8 for a Dota thing today and I had it in less than an hour just by selling a few strange weapons. I am running out though so I might need to use my own money for Firewatch.

Ok, is there some sort of hidden/unknown steam event starting tomorrow? The reason why I ask is the following evidence:

1) The weekend sale hasn't started yet
2) The daily deal of Ryse ends in 24 hours instead of 48 hours
3) There were less than 50 games as part of the weekly sale, which I thought was strange by itself, but wasn't enough evidence on its own

Anyone know what might be going on?

Super Bowl?

How do I keep on forgetting about that this weekend. I must have seen that super bowl 20th anniversary ad for pokemon 20+ times already and somehow mentally blocked the whole thing.

So, now there's a Super Bowl steam sale... I swear that must be a first.

I didn't know either. From Holland

It's weird, because the NFL makes a massive effort to advertise the game and also to make sure nobody actually says the words 'Super Bowl': http://thedailybanter.com/2016/02/wh...

Check out all the savings on these "BIG GAMES"!

What's the end game? That nobody ever talks about the Super Bowl™ again, and it disappears through neglect? Is this a corporate suicide attempt by the NFL, a cry for help?

I approve of this plan!

It's for Chinese New Year.

Coming soon to Steam:

Rosh Hashanah Sale
Robert Burns's Birthday Sale
Confederate Memorial Day Sale
Defender of the Fatherland Day Sale

God forbid we ever acknowledge non-North American, non-Christian, and non-white holidays!

They've had Chinese New Year events in Dota for the past couple years and, if I remember right, Steam only officially came to China last year so it's not surprising that they've added this.

It's a sale, not a social commentary. Like any good business Valve is trying to maximize revenue using events that can help increase sales.

Not sure what the big deal is. Chinese culture is actually pretty rich and interesting. Better than all our social warfare BS in the U.S. right now by far.

Sometimes I worry about that, but I've never heard any complaints.

You think you got problems? It could be a lot worse.
