Curiosity on Mars

Pretty sure that was the Death Star.

Science!

Wheels down, images. This sh*t is awesome!

Pics from mars, being tweeted to the world instantly. When the f*ck did the future arrive

Tremendous. That's some completely insanely amazing engineering.

I'm so moved by what has just been accomplished by these amazing people!

9m after landing they get an image of the rover's shadow on Mars.

I went into the wrong line of work lol

edit: OMG! Is.. is that a STARBUCKS!?

I am reminded of this:

lol! Just like a normal company, 5m before some massive undertaking some suit gets on the mic and wants to argue about getting "emails" and "estimates" in a timely manner.

I think it was Blumberg looking for the TPS reports.

Woo hoo! Touched down safely and sent back pictures!

It's champagne time

They better have squirreled away a budget line item for that! They deserve to have the American taxpayers pick up their bar tabs tonight.

Great job guys. Now, take your places, pick up your picks and get back to work!

Why in the f*ck do we waste trillions on weapons when we could be using it on sh*t like this? Sometimes humanity makes me sad.......

Absolutely amazing. Absolutely wonderful.

Make a P&C post? I would contribute.

I have to go to bed now but I can't believe I was debating not staying up for this. Absolutely. Amazing. To all those who continue to think that NASA should be defunded, I say: They landed on f*cking MARS so suck it!

I am so glad it landed.

I just saw the champagne.

EDIT: Did anyone hear how Bill Nye explained how they are going to add color to the pictures they get from Mars?

They didn't just land on Mars. They skipped like a rock on the Martian atmosphere, popped a parachute, ditched the parachute, and then lowered a car from a ROCKET CRANE.

(In other words: James Bond is a wuss.)

The downside to watching this at work? I missed the big moment! But this is so cool, I don't really care!

ROCKET CRANE... I like that.

Yeah an entirely new landing/deceleration system... and it worked. Kickass.

No photo or it didn't happen? Well lookee here, I'm casting a shadow on the ground in Mars' Gale crater #MSL pic.twitter.com/cj1zFJty

Awesome!

As per Twitter, this mission's budget is 0.17% of London 2012. Or 2-3 days of the war in Iraq.

F*** it all.

That was so incredible. I got teary eyed, I admit it. Nerds are awesome.

I'm safely on the surface of Mars. GALE CRATER I AM IN YOU!!! #MSLq

Did I just hear that NASA's budget for this was like a fifth of the budget for the London Olympics? And that McDonald's spends more money in one year on marketing their Happy Meals than Curiosity's budget?

If that is true, shame on us.

EDIT: Thanks, Crespin. Though it makes me sad, the sheer awesomeness of this moment will not be dampened.
