There was so much complaining that we switched after a minute or two anyway.

I was wondering why Medieval Siege was still around when Zig has been removed. I think Zig is my favorite terrible map, sure the layout is as generic as it gets and runs poorly, but it looks neat!

Maybe I should keep it as a "punishment" for when people start complaining about team selecting or "the Easy button." We just switch to Zig or Castle_Siege. Hehe

I am just hoping that all the people who voted for Siege last night have learned their lesson.

If not, I am willing to drive to your houses and poke your eyes with sticks until you are happy.

hey I didn't get enough time to really learn to hate it. I just used voice comm to say who the hell voted for this map, seeing how I personally spearheaded the vote! They even had a recount and we still got to play it!

We only changed maps cause you wanted to play it. Nobody really cared!

'Bonk' Energy Drink, the next Scout update.

Edit: Christ, again.

I see two tracks in the bg of that Bonk pic. One with a red stripe and one with a blue stripe. Another new map, or perhaps a modification of the payload game type?

They are doing it on purpose now.

Seriously, I have not laughed this hard for a long time. I think tomorrow I will wait by my computer, just to foil tann.

Looks like the Energy Drink boosts you somehow for a few seconds, but after that you crash. Cool. More food for Natascha. ::evil grin::

Why does GWJ have no evil grin smiley?

Edit: New meme: "Getting Tannhausered".

A modification of Payload where you have to get your cart to the finish line first (while, of course, fragging the other team to keep them from moving theirs) sounds pretty damn awesome.

Ha, okay. I notice the update, navigate to this thread, refresh to make sure no-one has posted about it, and post to find someone has beaten me by seconds... again.

That is definitely what it looks like, the tracks being color-coded to the different teams.

Wow that site is absolutely f*cked. TF2 really is the WoW of FPS, isn't it?

Nice spot. One can only hope.

The web site is just playing refresh fortress.

Figured that would happen again, so I took a screenshot. There is also a list of achievements, but it is only icons and names right now so I didn't bother.

They need a third-party solution to handle the high-volume traffic. We use akamai at work to slow folks down and prevent them from blowing up servers.

On second thought, since the site is being hammered:

"Miss! Miss! Miss!"? Looks like more than just a speed boost, looks like temporary bullet invulnerability. I know they mentioned sentries were a very hit or miss for classes -- some classes could handle them, some were completely powerless. Maybe this is designed to let scouts run past sentries?

EDIT: Nevermind, it says that right at the bottom. So perceptive I am.

Here's the original idea posted 12-13-08 by a user in the Steam forums after Valve asked for suggestions on the Scout update.

Batmarde from Steam forums wrote:

I know what most people are thinking, another scout idea, but this one is pretty balanced IMO. It would basically be a replacement for the pistol that would allow you to run around 15/20% faster, luring sentry fire on you but being too fast they cannot hit you (unless you run right at them, which you normally don't do as a scout)

It would work like the sandvich, Takes 2 seconds to drink in a third person view and gives you the speed boost. The speed boost is infinite until you take more than 25 damage or if you shoot your primary weapon. On a speed boost rampage, you cannot double jump as all your energy is concentrated in running/batting as your melee weapon would be your only choice. Could be useful in an area crowded with sentries where you would just run around like crazy, luring sentries to shoot you while other classes shoot the sentries.

Pros
- Drawing sentry fire on you
- Sentries cannot shoot you unless you run right at them or stay still
- Infinite drinks

Cons
- Scout loses his only long range weapon
- Cannot use scatter gun while boosted
- Cannot double jump so you cannot change direction in midair

That's about all the pros and cons I could think of but I'm sure there's more of them, just think of a map like 2fort or well (ctf) where you would simply run past the sentry farms to get into the intel room, take the intel and run like hell without stopping so sentries could get you.

I'm looking for hints on the primary unlock in the achievement titles and images, and am ashamed to admit I'm drawing all kinds of blanks. The only things I'm sticking on is the table saw blade in "Fall Classic" (probably a reference to something arena_lumberyard based) and the electric squigglies in "First Blood" (which I can't place). Anyone else see hints there?

I had a similar suggestion a while back. I think mine was temporary invulnerability but you can't use your weapons during it or for a few seconds after. It's somewhere in this thread, I swear.

I'd say First Blood was something to do with Kritzkrieg, except he looks to be in pain.

I'd be more tempted to say the squiggles are supposed to be blood splatter - maybe being first person to do any damage on a map, with the first person: part 2 being the first person to do damage but using the bat.

Like this?

Anyways, this is the kind of update I was waiting for. The pistol is pretty useless so I will definitely be drinking some BONK energy drink. The double payload, attack/defend style map is what I have been hoping they would implement ever since they came out with Payload. Now I will actually have some fun on a cart level.

Dunno about that. There's a very different pattern in the blood spatter on "First Blood, Part 2". The same squigglies appear near the bat handle as well.
Edit: Looking at high-res versions now.

So what we have left for scout update?

Ohh we can only hope Mex.
I'm looking forward to earning two Scout-related Medic achievements. That's the silver lining here folks.
