Official Team Fortress 2 Game Nights (PC)

Is there any chance we could remove dustbowl from the server? It's been proved over and over again that 99% of the time the last point turns into either a meat grinder that lasts 20 minutes or a steamroll. And that inevitably leads to a mass exodus from the server. I dunno about you guys, but to me that is just not fun.

What do you get when a medic, pyro and a heavy huddle up in a corner?

Nice one ragin'!

I like Dustbowel, but if it is indeed killing off a good night with pubbies, all for skipping it.
(and I will try to be there more often again as well!)

And yet the pubbies vote for it every single time it comes up. It also tends to fill the server until the last stage because pubbies know what it is, although there are other options for that (Doomsday works pretty well for some reason). Maybe take it out of the map votes?

Dustbowl and I have a love-hate relationship. Goldrush too.

If we take dustbowl out of the voting, will an admin still be able to force the map if need be? Or is it gone and lost forevaarrrr?

Or maybe have it only come up if it gets nominated? It seems goldrush, dustbowl, and badwater are always the options when no one nominates. Any way to randomize a little more?

Jerk! That pyro should have poofed and the heavy just sat in the corner. Pubbies! Last time I try to heal a pubbie.

I'm with Sink. Last night was brutal on the final map.

Never again. Never.

I love that Ragin survived that.

I remember from a previous investigation that UMC will let us tweak this, if we really want it -- unless explicitly nominated, the appearance of each map in the vote list depends on A) the frequency of appearance, as specified in the config [IIRC a weighting relative to 1] and B) the conditions under which it is allowed to appear, as specified in the config [e.g. min player count or time of day].

I wanted to see a rocket jump with that setup.

I should have taunted but as I don't normally survive those encounters it didn't occur to me until it was to late.

You mean you wanted to see him fall on his butt.

Can you do the grapevine on that thing to strafe? Clearly the "reality" aspect of the VR was putting this person at a distinct disadvantage.

I made changes to the server you'll be seeing these maps a lot more often come up in the un nominated rotation.

"cp_5gorge"
"cp_badlands"
"cp_coldfront"
"cp_fastlane"
"cp_freight_final1"
"cp_granary"
"cp_well"
"cp_yukon_final"

Payload will still come up in the votes without nomination just not as often as before. All maps can still be manually nominated at anytime.

Thanks Gumbie!

Crap, Mex beat me to the vid I came to post. That thing looks awesome but I'm not sure I'd make it more than a map or two before passing out

Hi, I would like an invite to your TF2 steam group.

Thanks.

One of these days I'll be able to play TF2 again. Too much girlfriend/family time, not enough ME time.

Your Steam handle, please!

I don't have as much history in the game as most of you, but what's the reason that people don't like Hoodoo? I always enjoy that one and it doesn't come up much. For some reason I get a kick out of the meat grinder at the end of it.

Did it just get overplayed back in the day?

People don't like Hoodoo? It's a custom map turned official, so it's not as well designed as the originals, but it's good fun.

What I don't like about it is the color palette, but it's ok. Also wrangler sentries and other assorted new weapons that came out after it released can break it easily.

I can't speak for everyone, but I know that Hoodoo went through several iterations, some of which were not quite as fun -- in particular, some versions of CP1 on stage 2 were nigh impenetrable, and there was a drastic rework of the final CP on stage 3 as well (remember the gate that used to shortcut the entire length of the map?). Hoodoo is better than it used to be, but some people may still have associations to the old version.

Also, some people just don't find it particularly inspired in terms of layout or motif or whatever.

Does Hoodoo allow you to wear a hat and kill mannez? Yes, so wtf? It's a great map!

What has happened to mannes? I have been reduced to killing pubbies for fun on Sunday afternoons. K:D ratios of 4-5 only keep me entertained for so long. TurboCopeland joined me yesterday for part of the fun. Seems like it is harder and harder to spin up the pub.

I have been manne killing when I can, but I've just been extra busy lately... plus it looks like we might be moving, so things are super crazy.

I've noticed numbers are down some overall, but TF2 is between updates, so that's typical. Hopefully we'll see some new content from Valve soon to bring folks back in. We're still able to fill up the pub in the evenings, but it can take a little while.

Tonight is official TF2 game night so forget everything else and get on the server at 8:00 PM CST.

FYI.

Wait until you are in front of your computer to forget everything else. Take it from me, it's probably useful to remember how to drive, where you live, and what a computer is -- until you start playing, that is.
