Official Team Fortress 2 Game Nights (PC)

After complaining loudly in the server, I'm going to ask here as well: can we configure Ultimate MapChooser to provide a better selection of maps? Currently, when no one nominates, one map from each of the TC, SD, KOTH, and ARENA modes will be in the vote list... but we don't usually play these with a full server, so we get stuck with a very limited selection of desirable maps in the vote list. I believe that a few changes to umc_mapcycle.txt will help us out:

  • Exclude TC mode from vote list by setting "maps_invote" "0" in its configuration block
  • Conditionally exclude SD, KOTH, and ARENA modes from vote list by setting "default_max_players" "12" in their configuration blocks
  • For commonly played map types like CP and PL, set "maps_invote" "2" to give more random options in the absence of nominations

If I understand correctly, maps that are excluded in the config file can still be nominated: so if we want to play TC, SD, or ARENA with a full server, it's still a possibility... but the system would favor the types of maps we normally enjoy.

I feel disappointed, I swore up and down I remember making a post a while back about there being a Halloween MVM map as a prediction. Might have been one of my few posts that ended up not getting posted because my internet is acting up.

For some reason my internet seems to disconnect every few minutes and then reconnects a few seconds later. It's just enough that I have a hard time loading ever 5th or 6th webpage and it seems to keep my connection from keeping me in an online game. Trying to feverioushly fix it since I was hoping to play this Halloween.

Side note I think I found the issue with Nightwater but I have yet to recompile it to see if it fixed it.

Zombies in my tf2... I could've sworn there was a game valve made that had zombies in it...

But it doesn't have rocket launchers.

Magic and Zombies. TF2 is now every genre ever.

The Jane Eyre/Pride and Prejudice TF2 event is just around the corner, mark my words.

I'll work on it this weekend. PM'ing me on Steam always works better than loudly complaining on the server.

I'm always open to suggestions to make things better if anyone ever wants to throw something out there just let me know and I'll do my best to look in to it.

Ahh, but it does have grenade launchers. You have to arc it a little bit, but the results are usually much more visually pleasing. No grenade launcher jumping, however. If you try that, you just end up with a lot of damage. No jumpy.

Hello!

Here are some details for how to configure your server to receive quickplay traffic.

First, the general requirements and scoring systems have not changed. (Your server must have an account and advertise the _registered tag, will be penalized or excluded for certain rule changes, etc). Details are here:
https://support.steampowered.com/kb_...

This year the quickplay UI will offer players two choices for Halloween:

1.) Halloween 2012. Servers exclusively running the new map 24/7.
2.) Halloween mix. Servers running a mix of all the Halloween maps.

At any given time, your server can only be in one pool or the other. Valve will be running servers in both pools.

Your server will be placed in pool #1 if:
* You advertise the tag "event247"; and
* You are running the new map "koth_lakeside_event".

Your server will be placed in pool #2 if:
* You advertise the tag "eventmix"; and
* You are running one of the four Halloween maps.

The eligible Halloween maps are:
koth_harvest_event
cp_manor_event
koth_viaduct_event
koth_lakeside_event

If you don't set one of the two tags, you won't get any quickplay traffic!

Also, I'd like to mention a new convar that has been added, mp_mapcycle_empty_timeout_seconds, which will cause your server to cycle the map if it has been empty for a certain period of time.

So I've figured out what was wrong with that spot as well as fixed all the visual issues I couldn't explain, like giant black holes.
Here's a few pictures of the most recent version.

Looking great, Wolfen.

I vote for the first few days to use the 247 tag, then when we are bored with it, switch to the eventmix. That mapcycle cvar looks nice too, should probably implement that. A lot of times the first map is buggy if it has been sitting there forever.

Giant black holes that teleport you through space and pop you out somewhere else? Yes please.

Sounds good to me. I'll have to disable UMC and put koth_lakeside_event as the only map in the maplist.

EDIT: Also we have the MvM server that never gets used. Should I turn that into another 24/7 Halloween event for overflow? I have a feeling pub 2.0 will be full all night.

I'd opt for another Halloween event server. Even if there haven't been too many players as of late, connecting to a pubbie server is just asking for trouble.

We have an MvM server? Well, there is a halloween version where it is zombies instead of robots, why not put that server to that?

Nightwater release date Oct. 31st?

We do, but no one ever plays it because you can't get the phat lootz. I'll do whatever people want, but I assumed most people will want to play the zombie mvm on the Valve servers for the drops.

Edit: Zombie loot maybe?

Please pace yourselves. Don't become bored of the new map too quickly. Due to visitors, I won't be able to play until Sunday night!

I was trying Romania to keep with the spirit of the update. Now that I'm actually logged on it's updating pretty quick.

Waiting on update to download from Valve content servers so they can be pushed to the pub servers.

For the record, I like MvM and am happy to join up with Goodjers to make use of the private MvM server despite an absence of lootz.

Might not make it tonight... see you guys later this weekend though!
