Official Team Fortress 2 Game Nights (PC)

Some remarks stuck with me from last game. If there would ever be a TF3? General feeling was that people have infested maybe too much into their weapons and hattez. And just dumping it and starting all over again would be a no go. I offered the suggestion that maybe we can import whatever we have into TF3.
Any thoughts or even any rumours of a TF3?

Rock Band lets you import songs but I don't know of any game that lets you import DLC. I, personally, would love a new version of TF2. I have hattes, weapons, and other miscellaneous stuff but it's the gameplay that I like. I could go back to vanilla everything and I'd still enjoy the game (maybe even more). If they announced it tomorrow I'd pre-order it as soon as I heard about it.

They are making way to much money with the current version. Why would they make a new one and piss off the community?

All the way to page three?

Sad pyro is sad.

It's very simple: TF3 will be based on Half-Life 3. Plan accordingly.

what has Borderlands done to us?

Instead of playing 12 on 12 we're playing 4 vs the computer. How can 4 be as much fun as 24?

I think there will eventually be a TF3 with a more embedded economy of micro transactions. Everything within the TF2 economy works well, but at the time TF2 was designed I doubt they had half this stuff in mind so it's all tacked on and added after the fact. I think in TF3 it will be pretty much embedded in every aspect of the game.

Sadly it started well before Borderlands, but this just makes it worse. That is why we need something like a tournament to generate increased interest.

+1 !

Quick check shows: Black Mesa, GW2 and Borderlands2
I can see why it is so quiet then. Not even talking about FTL.

In conjunction with Valve time we have another solid decade of TF2 ahead of us.

I suspect things will return to baseline once Borderlands (and possibly XCOM) finish having their way with us. MvM exacerbates that, but it's running its course. Personally, I have one more level left (still...grumble grumble) before I've completed a tour and gotten a crappy strange with bling on it. After that, I don't see myself playing it much; it takes too long to form a lobby, and isn't nearly as much fun as shooting at other people.

I hope they get the lobby fixed and dynamically scale the difficulty for the number of players, so it can be the sort of "disposable" game mode you can play with a few people until more come online and you play real TF2, like arena was supposed to be. Instead, I think it's on its way to being a novelty that people mostly abandon, like arena actually is.

e: Which does not in any way imply I wouldn't play in a tournament.

I love arena. Never abandoned it. Unfortunately it can be boring if you aren't one of the last ones alive. If you are usually one of the first dead I can see disliking it.

I've got one more MvM left as well. If they scaled it I could see playing with my son. I think it would be a good mode for him to have fun with. I'd like to play L4D with him but the zombies are still a bit scary at his age.

Diablo3+Borderlands2+Torchlight2+FTL+MVM = Less mannes to shoot in the face... But I'll try to be online tonight if anyone's up for it, I promise I vill heal you : )

Arena's a lot like CS, which is why I'm sure that Valve thought that it'd do okay as a map type. But given that TF2 normally has a spawn timer it feels like you spend less time playing (although for small numbers I doubt it makes a big difference)

I've been busy between classes and Black Mesa but I've also been doing sketches and brain storming over my redesign of my map Alpine Forest.

Plus the last few times I played I was really rusty. Also didn't help that every time I die I keep pushing the F button as if I was in MVM.

Precisely; arena is CS, regular TF2 is Day of Defeat. I've always preferred the latter to the former, since CS for me was more not-playing than playing. With the exception of CS, multiplayer shooters are (mostly) all in the DOD vein: UT, Wolfenstein/ET, RO; heck, even Halo and COD. Unless you're one of the better players on a given arena/CS server, respawn-timer games will provide more play time.

Arena/CS against you guys would be like 99% not-playing time. =)

Day of Defeat was my TF2 before TF2 existed Oh how I miss killing people with the rocket launcher in that game that was just supposed to be used to destroy walls. Also, the giant thud from killing someone with the butt of the allied rifle was glorious.

Hehe, you said "butt"

I think the regular 12v12 game should implement some sort of weapon upgrading or something, like in MVM, maybe people will be encouraged to finish the map...

edit: Yeah I'm not a game designer, but where do I submit my CV to Valve anyway?

I would just love the ability to look at my backpack, maybe even shop in the Mann Co store while in the queue. Just sitting there is the worst experience. I'm surprised they haven't added a mini-game or something like that on that screen.

It also helps when you have people who actually play. Its annoying when all you have is a spy left on one team who thinks they should just hide.

I've suggested this a couple of times when the private only had 7 or 8 mannes, and was surprised no one mentioned any interest. Yeah, I'd rather play 12 v 12 on the private, but I'd rather play arena than 12 v 12 where there are 6 - 8 pubes per team.

I still think that might be the way to go for a tournament, you would only need 6 - 8 per team. You could play best out of 5 or 7 which would allow for interesting back and forth of strategy.

Happiness is attaching a Posthumous Kills part to your new Strange Flamethrower, then getting a perfect score on Coaltown as scout (all cash, no deaths).

You guys wanna help me start breaking in my flamethrower tomorrow night?

I was ready for a Tournament all summer and now for October I've got 5 PM till 1 AM classes, which till your post I was absolutely excited for since it meant no longer panicking about sleeping in too long. Oh well that seems to be my luck.

The idea of an arena tournament is intriguing. Not sure how it works but I think if we could get the team setup down it would be easier than putting together a 12v12. The matches would be short and scheduling 8 people should be simpler than 12.

yay arena tourney!

I like this idea.

My least favorite option, but will take it as there is not much else.

Redneck, you have inspired me.
