Official Team Fortress 2 Game Nights (PC)

You know, the weird thing is I never even played Team Fortress classic, but I really wanted to play TF2 because of the art style and stuff.

It was so nice. Pyros were useless. Spies could backstab instantly without huge warm ups and delays and had a tranq gun which would slow the enemy down. There was grenade spam like you wouldn't believe. Medics were the top offensive class because they had decent grenades and a concussion grenade with which to jump great distances. If they hit an enemy with their health bag it would give them a disease or something. If that enemy touched an ally of his, that person would also get sick. So you had idiots going into respawn and getting everyone sick. The difference between an excellent player and an average player was astounding, much greater than it is in TF2.

Well, we can only troubleshoot so many potential sources of the problem at any one time. I checked the sourcemod forums when you first mentioned this a few weeks back, and didn't see any indication there of a problem. The only other place I found it brought up was SPUF, and you know how reliable those guys are.

Troubleshooting this is really frustrating, so bear with us.

Oh yeah, I'm not blaming anyone, sorry if it sounded like that. When the problem first started I noticed several servers I frequented had the same rubber banding/lag issues. They were on different providers and the only common denominator was Sourcemod so I thought it might be worth a shot. Thanks for all you do with the servers.

Do we have the newest snapshot of the development branch?

No, the server just autoupdates to the latest stable version. If we see any improvement after disabling tonight, we can look into the dev branch builds.

EDIT: As of right now, the server is Sourcemod/Metamod free. Come join and let's give it a stress test!

Man, I really want to play some TFC. It has been so long. We ought to have a TFC game night sometime.

Who else loved planting the detpack in spawn before teams were switched? Or watching disease infected noobs run into their spawn?

My favorite was the Mega TF mod, dropping a mag mine under the spawn door and watching the heavy get crushed by his own door.

I played around with the Saharan spy set and the dead ringer tonight. It wasn't as bad as I expected.

I just ran a test to see if I've gotten better since I started playing only about 7 weeks ago.. used to be fighting Easy Bots would give me a 5-10 k/d ratio and now it's up to 25-10!

Good games tonight. I just have to say that Steel is a server killer. Killed the pub and the private in one night. Managed to find a decent server later in the night that wasn't full of douche pubbies. In fact the admins were actively kicking pubbies. Last map voted was Nucleus.

Also, they were running source mod with no problems and had a great voting system. It was pretty standard, but the top two maps go into a runoff vote after the main vote. Evilseed got the name of the voting mod, maybe we can try it out.

It also used 5-9 as the voting buttons to avoid hitting a weapon select instead of voting.

I really miss that mod sometimes. Proxy mines, jetpack scouts, airstrikes, and all the ridiculous drop items classes had. Here soldier pick up this ammo pack, oh wait it stole all your ammo and now we knife fight.

The guy on chat said it was called "map vote extender" but I dont see that anywhere. One called Galileo looks close to what it was doing.

I approve of this TF2 update.

Getting pings on the pub server in excess of 250 ms instead of my usual 50. Is this happening to everyone or am I just special today?

I was getting similar rubberbanding on the pub that I had occasionally on the private last night. Might need to restart my network.

It's been forever since I've played TFC. I'd be down for a TFC game night for sure.

I just got me one of those fancy name tags and, since I play soldier the most, I'm thinking of naming my rocket launcher. My first idea was "Radical's Answer"

Thoughts?

I like the idea of incorporating your own name into weapon names.

Yes this sounds awesome. Even though we have !revote capability, there's a small time window to do that, and let's be honest if you were choosing weapons you are probably too busy fighting to stop and type that in.

Sorry about the abrupt exit, my computer decided to overheat. Yippeeee

I just wanted to say that Psych is a jerk for nominating Hydro and then leaving the server when it won the vote

The hydro and 2fort joke voting has got to stop!

Better hydro and 2fort than goldrush, dustbowl, or thundermountain.

maps.

Hahahahahaha! I am the greatest!

I need to start a Thundermountain appreciation group. Map is great, y'all are a bunch of haters.

We need the instant runoff vote mod. I'm honestly a little tired of a map winning with less than a quarter of the server voting for it. Hydro won with five votes on a full server.

If I want to spend an hour and a half on one map, I'll play Left 4 Dead.

Then you wonder why I greet you with bullets and/or fire. It's exactly this sort of thing that causes it.

Well there is that. Is there a way to split em up? I am a strong believer in the first to parts of that map. I dunno I just really love payload maps.

They exist, evilseed and I were playing on a server the other night that had a much better voting mod then what we are running.

Might help eliminate the repetitiveness of the maps that has peen coming up lately.

I don't understand why people vote for maps like ThunderMountain on the pub. You may like the map, but you know it's going to kill the server, so what's the point?

Then again, there are non-server-killer maps like 2fort that pubbies will play but many Goodjers absolutely refuse to play. They argue that it's a grind and that it's impossible to score. Bullsh*t. It can get turtle-y at times, yes, but the past few games we've played on it have resulted in wins, often times close wins of 3-2. Yet even when it gets a good majority of the vote some of the admins will change the map to something else before giving it a chance. The truly dumb thing is when some goodjers complain incessantly about the map even while there's a great, high-scoring game going on right then.

Give 2fort a chance, I say. And when on the pub, vote for maps that won't kill the server so that we can all ruthlessly slaughter and taunt pubbies. Save the odd maps for private night. Except castle. Delete that damn thing.
