The first inaugural GWJ youth gaming scholarship, COMPLETE!

Just a quick update...

Liam is currently planning the first game he wants to design, a bowling-style game set in the halls of his school. He's got pages of notes and drawings, all of which he happily shared with me. He loves a lot of the games, but his obsession right now is Civilization V. He and I frequently play online.

Aidan has discovered that he loves the indie games more than anything else. His current favorite is Jamestown, which he's disturbingly good at.

They were supposed to spend this weekend with their dad, but for whatever reason, he called and canceled late Wednesday night. So instead, they are on their way over to my house right now for a night of games, violent movies, and junk food. A true man night.

I love Jamestown. I don't think I bought that for him, but I'm glad he's liking it. Also, can I join your party? Sounds better than anything I have going on.

That's great!
Looking good and the game idea sounds fun! Do I smell a Kickstarter coming?

Nice mouse mat there!

Come on over. We have a tub full of... pizza.

That could be messy.

But also awesome. That really does sound like a good party, though. I hope the boys night in is a fun one!

Nice to see how these things work out.
As a father who doesn't often see his own girls...I cannot imagine why one would cancel on his kids.
But I guess that's a whole other story.

So it's been a long while for this thread, but I had to share something. Liam is working on a game using RPG Maker on Steam. He decided to name all the NPCs that people come across after the Goodjers that helped build the computer that he's working on. I was over at his house last night, and he showed me some of the work he's been doing. It's amazing, and I told him that when he was done, he should share the game with GWJ.

At one point, he showed me a character that will be a friend of the player's character. The dialogue Liam is writing for the character revolves around encouraging the player to keep moving forward when things are getting tough. That NPC's name is Ianunderhill.

It was a bit difficult to explain to Liam why I teared up and had to sit down when I saw that. There aren't a lot of quiet ways to remember someone who I really respected that are as amazing as that.

That's beyond fantastic.

I'm glad Liam is still enjoying his PC.

That's really great.

Sweet!

I just got hit with a face full of dust. Wow, didn't expect that.

Yeah, really wasn't expecting that one... but glad to see it. Good on you, good on him. Looking forward to seeing the game.

Thanks Trichy. While it's not normally cool to catch someone so off guard as that, you just made my day.

How fitting, though. Extraordinarily so.

f*cking dust. Stupid cubicle being full of it.

OMG That's awesome. And he didn't even know? What an amazing bit of coincidence, or maybe it was our Nic making a change in his own ethereal way!

awesome.

I think someone just reversed a vacuum in my office. That's so incredibly amazing. Congrats to Liam for his accomplishment! The next indie star is coming up!

Wow. That was a punch to the gut and very unexpected. In a very great way. I personally didn't know Nic, but how can you not know after being around the GWJ community for awhile? I had a random notification from Twitter about people RTing Edwin's post and this about knocked me on my butt. In a very good way. Just stunned me how affecting the love people show to others in this community hit me personally. But this isn't about me. Long story short, that's frickin' rad. Glad to see all the awesome in the world from the very isolated part I'm in.

That's amazing.

Awesome!

Amazing! Life's little intricacies. This made my day.

That's just amazing!! What a much needed jolt of love! Totally needed that today, by the way. We miss him so much, and this, I think, was his small way of reminding us that he isn't going to be easily forgotten.

Nick was awesome, and Liam seems pretty darn awesome too!!

Thanks for sharing. Sorry for having been absent for so long. I don't know if I just busied myself with other things to try and move forward a little with my grief or what, but again, you guys and gals are just incredible. Thanks!! <3

I've never experienced a moment that simultaneously made me feel so many intense emotions.

I can only quote kexx to try and sum up my feelings of how awesome Liam and Ianunderhill are.

I still get a twinge when I come across his handle on twitter and Facebook.

Holy crap. I forgot to buy him FFVII. Tell him to expect it in today.

edit* Sent.

+1. It's very cool to hear about Liam paying tribute to Ian even though Liam wasn't aware of what happened last year.

Yeah, that was awesome, thanks for sharing Trichy.
