DayZ - ArmaII zombie mod

Got me some broken legs near Novy Sobor.
The idea of bellying around to try and find a morphine injector is a little daunting.
May have to call in the troops for support.

Got mine running last night and I am looking for some people to show me the ropes. Any takers?

Sure man! Just log in to Vent we will gladly try to help you!

I went through just about every drop in Novy.
I did find a tent, but no morphine; so I can contribute.

I'll be on later tonight, I hope.

Lesson learned. It seems that if you try to navigate stairs, or vault fences with broken legs, you can start bleeding again. I didn't notice I was bleeding because I had stayed clear of zombies. For this reason I've come to prefer the screen flash way of telling you things like this. The tiny icon blinking is really easy to miss.

Morphine only spawns in military locations (tents, deerstands, firestation included) and medical ones, so I don't think you can find any in Novy

Also, be sure not to fire the last round in any clip, then you can change your mags from 1911 to revolver and back and the mag will magically refill. (Can also work w/ DMR clips and M24 rounds) It may be an exploit, but it is handy.

Some of us tried Lingor last night after logging out in fear of hackers and with a lack of things to do in normal.

I hadn't intended to do that until standalone due to it's "unsupported" status but since rocket isn't condemning it...whatever.

Turns out, the Lingor version of DayZ pretty much puts rocket's current creation to shame. Being a private hive as well though open to public seems like a winner to me. I think if you have that wtih a server actively admined with the ability to ban players for hacking at the admin level (they can since they're not tied to rocket's servers) is a real winner.

The lingor map is just beautiful and so well thought out and designed. Nearly every building is enterable. I think i only encountered 1 that isn't...and most can spawn loot but loot spawns aren't slathered on too heavy either. A town with 10 buildings may have 12 to 15 loot spots for residential loot for example.

I'd say go for lingor play at this point. Total 180 for me but hey...rocket's all about himself and publicity atm while lingor actually works.

Also, you just drive a vehicle up to the pumps at a gas station and it fills itself up...that's....why the hell doesn't rocket's version do this?

The info in this post has all you need to install and run lingor mod side by side with default chernarus.

Got sniped.

PS. Not you.

Played my second CD key on that same lingor server some, started on NWW side, lots of just civvy loot on that island segment.

First thing i find is a crashed chappa, i sneak in, grab an M14 aim and ammo and there's tons of oether goodies around, but i got aggro, so i run off shooting zeds as i go but that was a mistake i shoulda stayed silent, the 1 of 2 others on the server hears me shooting and says something so i just say hi back on side chat and say it's just me shooting zeds....by the time ig et back to the chopper the Bizon i saw but didn't have time to grab and other stuff is GONE so i walk in the town right next to the choper for tools loot figuring he snuck in and used me as bait to grab the best loot.

I hear him in town shooting the bizon...but i can't find him. 30 mins later after looting the entire town in my search i exit the town and see him running bck towards me from another structure 400 meters away with a zed chasing him...and i know it's him cause this server has TAGS on!

I kill him, loot what little he still has on him that i need, and set off. 20 mins later after hearing some threats on my life in side chat i hear him coming for the building i went to to hide out in. He musta seen me through a window with tags or something as i was sneaking around keeping an eye out for any buddies of his. He runs in and i hear him getting ready down stairs...i'm upstairs watching the stairwell. He charges up with an axe and i put 8 rounds down the stiarwell instantly killing him....AGAIN...and now i'm a bandit (bandit skins fully enabled on this server).

Sweet! i have camo now!

Anyone else having issues connecting to DayZ today? Server after server seems to either get stuck on loading. A few work, but the load screen takes up to three minutes or more.

I'm wondering if it's a hive wide issue or if it's just something on my end.

Sounds like the hive needs a reboot...

I believe this is called the "we're over here, shoot us!" formation.

We raided a camp where? I can't confirm or deny anything of the sort happened.

After hundreds of hours in this game I finally found my first ghillie suit, yeah!

Nice pic! I think how cool we all look outbalances the fact that we were easy targets! At least no one died during our "operation"!

Yeah, I think the hive "clogs up" during peak hours.

Updating to a the new version of Battleye does seem to make it easier to join during off-peak hours though: http://support.dayzmod.com/knowledge...

Also, I think running BEsetup will revert your version of Battleye back to the older version that came with the game: http://www.gamerswithjobs.com/node/1...

I didn't notice any version numbers for Battleye though, so it's hard to tell.

That depends. Was it a some prone sad-ass half out the gas station door in Novy?

Hell, we had...what...five, six people encircling that radio tower? We very well might've outnumbered any resistance.
I think we'd abandoned the "doofus" formation at that point.

Was a good time. Hope we can do more similar in the future.

Was it Masher or Fuzzballx that mentioned it was possible to password your DayZ server for a while? I noticed this while browsing for servers. The server is hosted by this one guy, he's the only guy playing on the server... and it's passworded:

What kind of admin options do you need to twiddle for this though, and which hosting packages do you need? It seems like an unmanaged VPS like this one would give you more access to the options.

I'm thinking about getting a DayZ server to make it easier to get the endgame content like helicopters and such. High level looting is still somewhat interesting, but I'd like to use the easy button and see the rest of the content as a tourist.

No...I did not say you could password a rocket hive using server.

If you host a Dayz Server using rocket's hive you can never have it passworded, must allow at least 40 players at any given time, and cannot ban anyone.

Thus why i highly recommend not even thinking about it till standalone comes out which will allow us to do much more of our own thing with servers.

If you rent a server from any of the major DayZ server operators which imho is the only cost effective way of doing it and you password your server you will get your rental revoked without refund shortly.

You also have no way of knowing if that dude's server is actually connected to the hive at all and if it is it may not be around long...and even if it is it's against the rules if it's touching rocket's hive.

Not worth it. Wait for standalone. Play with the arma 2 mission creator if you wanna fly a heli around.

Meanwhile i am starting to lean solidly towards just playing on a private hived lingor server till standalone is released.

One way or another there'll be a GWJ or a GWJ/something or multiple GWJish servers in standalone i'm sure... I'm certainly gonna at least co-host one and others are expressing interest as well.

It'll be VERY interesting to see what kind of hive options or DB options come out with standalone such as public/private or a shared hive options.

Actually, it may not be that important to have your own server to get a shot at the high level stuff. I've been doing some missions with the Reddit Rescue Force, and it turns out they have access to the endgame stuff. It's a lot fun flying around in a helicopter with them and going on rescue missions:

Yea, its not that hard if yer on public hives to find the choppers. They get destroyed a lot and you can usually server hop at a spawn location and find one you can claim.

I have a buddy that's been doing that a lot. He finds quite a lot of choppers and just makes his own lil missions to repair them then flies them off and parks em somewhere like Novy Sobor and calls it mission complete, lol.

Dropped into Lingor Island this morning. I found it to be a nice change of pace, but not nearly up to Chernarus in quality standards. The enterable buildings and easy access to loot was nice, but it felt somehow shallow to me. I didn't feel even a little scared. This is a big generalization without really anything but my gut feeling to support it, but being in Lingor (for just an hour or so) felt like playing a game mechanic while being in Chernarus feels like playing a story environment.

It is nice having other players who don't always shoot on sight and to have some variation. It is SUPER nice not to have to worry about cheaters nearly as much. Still, unless a I'm playing w/ a group who wants to go to Lingor, I think I'm sticking in Chernarus for the time being.

Thanks to Hannibal and Magic for being good guides.

Just wondering if there's a bug that changes your login location. We logged out just North of Cherno, logged back in about same latitude, but West of Komorovo( I think. The one with the train bridge just west of it). Almost as West as you can get.

It took a bit of wandering and using watch and sun to figure out which way to go. I was way into the bush.

Ran into survivor up in a deer stand there. Not sure if he was armed. I didn't have a mic on. I have to restart the app to get it to work mid game with dayz. I did the careful through the trees approach, stopping and looking. I thought I spawned the zombies. I suppose he could have been prone in the stand. He never drew, and wouldn't or couldn't chat. I got him to answer that he saw the chats by standing up and down a couple of times.

I don't see how you guys are still playing the normal hive. This game is so hacked it's not funny. Doesn't it get old constantly wondering if the person who just killed you was using a hack?

That's gotta be some kind of mental block at work since even Rocket has said how bad the current map is for DayZ and he can't wait to build an actual official like DayZ map with all enterable buildings and stuff if i recall right. The official map is terribad and even rocket knows/admits it.

If a lingor server filled up to 40 people it'd be even more deadly than chernarus imho. If deadly is your concern.

On the other hand, lingor feels like a REAL environment, and chernarus feels fake as hell with almost none of the buildings even being enterable. Whole towns without an enterable building but zeds everywhere.

Lingor is a much more realistic, life-like, environment to play in.

If/When they rebuild the chernarus map for standalone and complete it (map should become full at about 4x current size with around a 200 player cap) with enterable buildings and a lil more balanced layout, then it may be able to compete with lingor again, but a lot of work is needed.

The ambiance in lingor is just awesome.

Sniped on us583.

DayZ needs a robbery engine.
I know I had nothing of interest to those guys. Saw them too. Just couldn't get away in time. They missed 3 shots, then I had to try to move to the next cover.

But I managed to recover and have functional gear back.

It made me want to start something like the RRF.
After being sniped and reading online that the RRF made themselves targets of hackers/bandits, just by doing nice things. Also, that they themselves may be hacked, unless it's possible to aquire hacked-in weapons from targets.

I was contemplating:
Defensive Anti Sniper Team & Emergency Rescue Division

or

Defensive Anti Murder Squad & Evacuation Legion
Anti Sniper Service & Heroes About Town?
Sniper Mitigation Operation & Rescue Effort?
or something less awkward.

The idea being. Make it dangerous to sit on a hill in a ghillie suit and pick of noobs trying to find starting gear.
Or, drop military weapons in starting towns with some other benign objects which are an obscure calling card. Call the unit, Redwood and leave a chemlight and firewood with an AK in low level residential drops. This one would be much less rewarding though.

I feel like the game needs factioning, or custom uniforms. Some way to know your team. I really hope that becomes a feature.

Not knowing if you can trust anoyone is significant to the zombie universe. Assuming that it's better to kill survivors than risk that they're going to kill you is somehow broken. You need to assume trust and suspect deceit.

When it becomes better to kill survivors than to loot drops, there's a problem.

Maybe a synergy effect would help. Somehow lend grouped and allied players an advantage. Though you'd probably just end up with ultra powerful sniper groups.

There has to be an answer to the question, what (in stories like Walking Dead) tips the balance enough that people group and help out, and work against the zombies, more than hunt each other? How do you make that work in the game? It's probably humanity, which in games is lost in, or on the other side of the uncanny valley.

Maybe it's the threat level of the zombies? Though balancing this for new spawns is going to be hard.

Right now, it's not long until zombies are not a threat, and boredom leads to survivor hunting.

What if there was a system where, if the survivor death rate is increasing on the server, random zombies spawn around grouped survivors? The creates a player interest in keeping survivors alive. A kind of surrogate for humanity. It benefits you to keep new players alive, and help them out, and discourages murders. This with the increase in zombie efficacy might work.

That's not fair for the folks though who dont want to help others. This is a survival game after all not a communism 2.0 sim.
