DayZ - ArmaII zombie mod

I've totally pushed this to the back of my mind. I was getting completely burned out with it. I'm just waiting for the stand-alone now, whenever that will be. The mod doesn't owe me anything though, first time I've put 250+ hours into a single game in many years.

the ARMA3 and the wasteland mod has been a fun non zombified distraction.

My problem is i love me some semi-realism focused, co-op, non pvp, zombie survival... aint nothin but nothin caters to me so i'm constantly dissappointed with the genre. Apparently it's my fault for having specific desires.

Burnt Toast: my Norton flagged the .exe on the Breaking Point mod and won't let it run. Had to manualky release the quarantine every time I downloaded an update, which is like daily now.

Thanks, Wanderer - mine did that too. Got it going now.

Good to know it will happen with each update so I can keep an eye out for it.

I think for me another issue was that I (did not install MS .Net 4.5 first. Yes, I RTFM that I needed that, but I also wondered if maybe I had it already installed. Rookie mistake.)

Just played this again today. Haven't played in aaaaaaaaages. It was nice getting into the Z-killin' mode.

I played on a "non-PVP" server. Active Admins mean you'll get a quick boot for shooting players. They've done some kind of base-building there too.

Alright, playing Breaking Point at the moment. Found my first ever M24. Would love to have a spotter. Anyone interested in rolling tonight?

That actually is exerting a certain pull on me at the moment.

This does look a lot like Day Z. Especially as it is advertised as an openworld zombie sandbox w/ diminishing resourses. However, it is worth noting that this is a reboot/sequel to the unreleased XBLA project Class3, which has been around longer than Rocket's ArmaII mod. (http://xboxlive.ign.com/articles/114...)

My first response to the post though, was "George Romero is going to be pissed that they filched his ideas.

Just for the record, since I'm not sure if anyone else as said it, but its not a reboot or sequel to Class3, it is Class3. Class 3 was just the code name they used before they came up with/released a title. It was mainly used to differentiate it from their future project "Class 4" which they hope to make after class 3, which the intend to be an mmo based on class 3/state of decay. It does sound a lot like Day Z, but it is going to feel a lot different. Its more about building a community of survivors. Anyways, you can all check it out tomorrow. It comes out on the 5th.

Umm... I don't know what DayZ was to you, but to me, the number one and pretty much the only relevant play mechanic was building a community of survivors.

Playing DayZ by yourself is a certain way of measuring your life expectancy in minutes. I do not recall having any memorable moments in that game by myself. And some of my most favourite gaming moments of all times, in company of others.

Exactly, the only time I've played DayZ by myself was a few grinding sessions for parts for my house in Origins. Other than that I have other more enjoyable solo games to play. Give me the option for playing with my squad in DayZ or any other game... then give me my boys and a few suckers to shoot at.

This last weekend we had a rolling engagement between three squads in Origins on one of the central mountains that left 15+ crosses scattered across the top and both sides of the hill. After the engagement wrapped up I went to the valley floor to provide 'under' watch while we waited for guys to run back from spawn, the location I set up on I could view 9 crosses within my sniper scope at 700 meters away.

Agreed, MoonDragon. We've not played anything together before or since, but I'd gladly run any game co-op with you any time, based purely on our brief DayZ time together. The game was very, very good at that.

Had fun last week on DayZ - Epoch.

Found a cache of vehicles, of which I drove off with three :
- parked the ATV in some bushes (forgot where I parked, duh)
- parked a UAZ (was not where I put it when I logged in next day... the nerve of some people )
- drove another UAZ to a trader-camp, didn't seem like the "vehicle-guy" would buy it , heard another vehicle approaching, so I took off (in said UAZ).

Quite a while later, I crashed it into a tree, was ejected from the vehicle, my legs are broken, and I'm bleeding, but alive! I made it about 2 steps away (worried that it was going to blow up) before passing out for over FIFTEEN MINUTES!!!
Wake up!!
I manage to bandage myself up before I pass out, again, for another 5 minutes or so.
Wake up, eat a can of "Unknown" (has a "chance of infection" apparently) - "You've been infected" - and I start coughing........ a lot.
Morphine myself, and get moving. I can't even see my "blood-level", it's so low that it doesn't even register in the 'drop'.
I can barely see (black and white, and verrrry blurry) or hear, and am now very worried that my coughing will announce my location to other players.
I don't really have much gear to lose (Alice pack and the Map are probably my biggest regrets), so I manage to find an obliging Zed to finish me off... it doesn't take much....

I expect to return to my body to loot it.

RESPAWN

I'm on the shores near Electro... dressed in the priest robes?!? Wait... no gear... and I walk... like a Zed?... LOL

So I spend the next hour (or so) wandering back and forth through Electro, doing my best "act natural":
- walk-don't-run, frog-hop, crawl... don't be still, and no jerky movements, when I feel that someone will see me (normal Zed walking around doesn't draw a lot of fire)
- running around (to cover more ground) when I feel "safe", otherwise you'd look much too "human" and probably be shot on sight

During that time:
- I manage to kill one player
- lost track of another, and
- was instrumental in killing one more ("raise horde" ), before dying myself (Zeds will start attacking you after using 'raise horde' (calls all Zeds within 100m to your position))

So much fun

After so long, DayZ has me hooked again.

For anyone that is interested, I didn't even know that these single player mods existed:

I didn't see a mention of this DaiZy single player mod anywhere. Perhaps I just overlooked it...sorry.

Stylez and I will be on tonight around 9 CT. Looking for a third. I'm starting fresh at the coast in vanilla, or at NEAF in Breaking Point.

Anyone heard about DayZero? There's a new map coming down the pipe, exclusively here. http://bmrf.me/

We'll be in Vent.

So, I went back into DayZ after a long time away.
I used to avoid veteran servers. This one I've been playing on, happens to be set to veteran.

I've noticed:
-zombies can hear you from outside buildings, if you're inside, and you're not sneaking
-it's a lot harder to ditch a zombie by running through the trees
-there is a lot less loot. (though I know this server removed some of the big guns, or was that mod-wide)

Wow, illness wasn't in when I played last.

Illness makes it nearly impossible to survive.

makes hospitals more important and drives people to them

I've never seen antibiotics in game.

If you have Arma3 check out the progress they have made for DayZ. zombiesmod.com is the website

As for Arma2, DayZero is pretty cool, new enterable buildings on Chernarus. Zombies are freaking brutal.

Playing a bit of Overwatch, which is another nice Chernarus mod.

So are these going to be pulled when the standalone happens?

I've been putting in some time with DayZero, and having a pretty good time. Thinking about starting a camp for myself. I'm on BMRF US3, which is a day/night server on Pacific Time. It's tied to US5, which is a 24/7 daytime server. Both servers have 50+ players most evenings.

I'm on vent any time I'm on.

The new DayZero exclusive map Podagorsk has a teaser video out.

End of the month they say.

I've read that DayZ Standalone will pull some engine improvements from Arma 3. I hope it pulls a lot of them, because playing Arma 3 is so much nicer an experience than playing Arma 2. So much smoother.

Neither engine seems great for this type of game, specifically how the zombies move and attack. It just looks so janky.

actually thats why they're doing a modified version of it. Some of the videos posted earlier showed where they had to redo the pathing logic for the AI.

Anyone interested in some classic DayZ on a low population server?
A little more like PVE.
There is rarely anyone else on, except a few guys who would belong in this community.
They'll come by, give you a ride, or a Blood Transfusion.

I currently have a stash built up in some tents, and I'm driving a tractor around. Most of the server vehicles are still sitting where they spawned.
I want to try something like getting one fixed up, and ultimately getting a helicopter fixed up.

The server population is low enough that the other guys can park fixed vehicles by Novy, and they stay there.

I know this won't be every DayZ fan's cup of tea, but if you got tired of the startup grind, and want to do something cooler, like try to fly a helicopter, then maybe it will work out.
I can supply some basic, or even pretty good weapons.

I'd even like to try and build a stockpile of things like Antibiotics, and matches. The rare things that make survival possible.
