Me too!

Agreed.

Gods, I hope this doesn't become like that bloody Firefly thread.

Mmmm... Kaylee...

I was a lot happier before I learned Orlando Bloom was a man. A lot happier.

Some side by side comparisons for you: http://www.ringgame.net/riddles.html

There is actually reference to this in LOTR as well. The "new" version is what was retconned to have actually happened, Bilbo admitted it to Gandalf later on (I think after he left for Rivendell maybe?) that the "old" version was what Bilbo wrote in his diary, because the influence of the ring was driving him to lie about the exact circumstances that led him to acquire it (similar to how Gollum, in the newer version, had created a narrative as the ring being his birthday present). In the old version the ring was rightfully his, as the reward for winning the riddle contest, it was the help out that he swindled Gollum into. In the new version he won the help out by "winning" the riddle contest, but the ring was stolen (or at the very least found and not returned to its 'rightful' owner).

A gallery of the company (plus Gandalf) was posted on Facebook.

Just watched the original Hobbit cartoon last night. Now I can't wait to see this even though they're stretching it out into three movies.

Great pic of Radagast the Brown. Full article here

Another trailer!

There are four other versions here -- the last 20 seconds or so is different.

There's something truly badass about Thorin staring down Elrond. That was a great trailer.

Wow wow wow. Those special effects are so soft and so sweet and Gollum looks so awesome. As a CG artist I was picking that trailer apart. Amazing stuff!

That looks truly amazing.

Yeah, that helped me a lot. I have been kind of skeptical about His Hotness, Thorin Oakenshield but that was regal.

Not exaclty what I was thinking, but I'm glad you enjoyed it, too.

Let's just say I prefer Ulysses to Prince Charming.

Imperious is how I would characterize him.

Which is good, because that's his tragic flaw and how we end up in the giant mess at the end of the book.

Spoiled! Now I know there's a mess at the end! Thanks, Mom!

(haven't read the book in ages...)

This isn't Downton Abbey. Things actually happen in this story.

I dunno. Furniture sales and estate disputes aren't that far from Downton Abbey.

TV Spot 1 Love it!

Wait, you can buy tickets on November 7th? Wow. Have theaters generally had advance purchases that soon or is this a first?

They had advance purchases like that up for the Twilight movies and The Dark Knight Rises. I'm not sure about other major releases.

Episode I was the one i believe that started the trend. Most high profile movies since then have had early sales months in advance.

Hmmm, goes to show how often I go to see high profile movies when they first release

Yeah it's been a while. I last worked in a theater in 2005, and even then we had 2-4 week pre-sales on dozens of movies a year.

And every movie had tickets for sale the Mon-Tues before it's Fri release.

When did this balloon to three films? I was confused by them needing two to begin with.

Just wait until they get to The Simarillion.

Wait, what? This is three movies now?

I'm not completely surprised, I guess. Studios have seen a lot of profits from movies split into multiple parts. Not just the original Lord of the Rings trilogy, but movies like the Matrix sequels, the last Harry Potter movie, and the last Twilight movie have shown that audiences will come back.

I'm going to go ahead and call it now: the next Avengers movie is a two-parter.
