The Great Goodjer Coffee Bean Exchange

Ro and I prefer beans from Pele Plantation on the Big Island of Hawaii.

I always keep my ISO less than 400, but I never mess with aperture. When I tried to read up on it and tweak the settings for my primary use (landscape photography at the time, think Grand Canyon) I ended up with worse pictures than just leaving it alone. Since then I have not used the camera enough to bother with it.

I've looked at investing in a 50mm lens, but it will be a while since I just bought my wife a point and shoot for our trip to DC in 2 weeks.

And back on the topic of coffee, all the recommended coffeeshops in DC seem to either serve Counter Culture or Stumptown, go figure.

Give the aperture thing a shot! It's always more effective at getting a shallow depth of field when you are close to something. Definitely try experimenting. Just take some pictures of little things on your desk where you have to get fairly close. That'll give you an idea of how things work. For landscape stuff, leaving it at auto probably would be easiest. That's what I would do.

Heheh... that's funny about the DC coffee shops. We picked good places to live.

Huzzah! I was starting to worry about my post office. Enjoy it well!

(Sorry I like taking pictures)
So walking up to my fence I see/smell this:

Which I quickly go inside and open!

So far so good! I wouldn't call myself the most literate coffee drinker, but hopefully I make up for it with pictures.

Wow, beautiful pics everyone. Looks like photography is appreciated as much (if not more) than the coffee!

With a GWJ beer exchange looming, I'm going to hold off on a reboot of the coffee exchange for a few months. I'll probably do a reboot in November or December for those interested. Let me know if that sounds like a good plan.

Getting coffee beans will be a bit more enjoyable during the colder months of the year, anyways.

Agreed. That time of year means 2 or 3 (16oz) coffee days in our house.

Yup. Splendid idea.

Got my coffee from trichy... Thanks, trichy!

Pretty tasty. Almost a little chocolatey. Enjoying it right now. (nom)

Sweet! I like that packaging.

Excellent! I hadn't tried their Rwandan beans yet, so I'm glad it's good. It's worth noting that this coffee shop also has an old tube television hooked up to an Atari 2600, a vintage 1960s air hockey table, and an excellent collection of old arcade games. Playing Dig-Dug while I smell coffee beans roasting? BEST.

awesome!

I would just like to say that I would be 100% okay with this exchange resurrecting in 2013. Cold winter is perfect for tasty coffee.

Oh yeah, we should definitely do that. Everyone chime in who wants to do a trade.

I'd be happy to give it another go.

Chimed!

I'm in. Some good stuff out here this time of year.

I'm in.

I'm in. I will drop-ship from my favorite local roaster.

I'm in this time.

IM IN LETS DO IT! fyi I'll be sending out a bag of phil & Sebastian, They brew the fine line of a light roast, not to light, not quite a medium roast. P&S has become my favorite as of late and I wish to share. I find their roasts you really need to follow the ratio for your brew method closely as its not as forgiving as a darker roast.

Wow, I totally spaced matching people up. I blame Dark Souls. Let's give it a couple more days and then I'll match people up. I'll try to make sure we don't have repeats or matching states. So far, we have:

trichy
tuffalobuffalo
Rahmen
SpacePPoliceman
jonfentyler
Dominic Knight
Symbiotic
psoplayer
Blotto The Clown

So, we'll give it a couple more days. In the meantime, I'm not sure where a couple people are from. psoplayer, are you from Houston TX? SpacePPoliceman, were you from NY? I can't recall without reading through the whole thread.

Huntsville, Alabama

Nashville.

My new Aeropress is waiting!

Thanks so much for the reminder! I'm terrible about remembering this thread since it doesn't get a lot of action. Hopefully people can use the weekend to acquire beans. I'm gonna make a trip. Here is the randomized list. We have an odd person out, so I will trade with Symbiotic and Dominic Knight unless someone else chimes in. I'm totally down for getting 2 bags from WA. I believe that everyone is in a different state and hasn't traded before. I did check but could have made a mistake. If that's the case, let me know and we can do a quick swap with Symbiotic.

As a reminder, a USPS Priority Mail Flat Rate envelope is a great way to ship beans in the US and costs just under $5.

Thanks for organizing.

SpacePPoliceman - I'm sending you a PM with address details and to get yours.

Perfecto. For posterity, I'm in Utah. I often wish I were in New York, though.

Yay! Time for coffee shopping this weekend.
