Castle Seeking DM-For-Hire

Are you a wizard behind a Dungeon Master screen?

Do you delight in tormenting a party of hapless victims leading a group of hearty adventurers through an epic tale?

Would you like to spend a weekend in a castle, gaming and being served mead from the adjacent pub?

If the answer to the three questions above are yes, YES, and HELL YES! then you may be the person we're after.

As I mentioned in the Ravenwood Castle thread, MonoCheli and I are aiming the castle more squarely at the gaming crowd. This includes the creation of a Gamers Getaway package, which is in the works as we speak. That package envisions an existing gaming group coming to the Castle to adventure together. We're also looking at creating a pre-set Gaming Weekend, where folks who might not have a group can come for a weekend and have everything they need provided for them (other than their imagination of course!)

Materials, game systems and the location we have. The missing component is the wizened Dungeon Master behind the screen. If you fit this role and would be interested in running a stand alone, weekend long game session, let us know!

Send me a PM and grab your dice!

Oh I thought you were hiring a full time DM.
That would be epic. Just show up and have a CON type getaway whenever.
A building with a library of books, game systems, reference material, and a sultan gaming table in a suite/board room.
That would be too awesome. Surely you could draw business in for a chance to play on a sultan table. You should strike a sponsorship deal with them. They provide you with demos, and you feed it to their target audience year round in the perfect gaming environment.

Can I refurb arcade machines and scuplt terrain for you?
Too bad its so far from the great white north.

As a matter of fact, I sent them an email last week to try to arrange just such a deal. I haven't heard back yet, as their sales force is tied up with the conventions according to their auto response.

If anyone has a direct contact at Geek Chic, that would be really helpful.

If you are looking to hire sword fighters....I am in a fight troupe at the Minnesota Rennaisance Festival, and while we are tied up through the end of September, something might be able to be arranged after that and any time up to June of next year before the next rehearsal season really starts up:)

About to go into a massive derail but I got into a chat with MonoCheli over Steam the other night and I keep brainstorming some ideas. There are a bunch of board game and video game devs in the Columbus area that you might want to ping to see if they are looking for some special events locations. And below I have some Live-Action Roleplaying groups that I know are pretty popular in Ohio that might be interested in having events at the castle.

And lastly, I am tempted to talk to you about hosting a game jam at the castle in 2013. Traditionally, game jams are all-weekend collaborative exercises building a video game in a weekend. What I would love to do is a boardgame jam and pattern it off of the private "Depth Jam" event that Jonathan Blow & Chris Hecker did back in May. This is just a crazy idea that I've chatted with friends about doing but nothing serious yet.

Great info LockandLoad, thanks! I'll task Mono with reaching out to the various LARP communities once he's onsite and set up. There's definitely possibilities there.

You should absolutely talk to me about a game jam if that's something you want to do, I'm sure we could work out a setup that would work well.

Have you thought of reaching out to the Geek & Sundry crew and see if they'd like to do some sort of on-site shoot? There's lots of their series that would fit right in: The Guild and TableTop are two that come to mind right off the bat, and I'm sure others that I'm blanking on would also fit in well.

I would drive for 12 hours to see you and Marsman fight.

You already earned mead for life with your "Here There Be Flagons" slogan Rubb Ed. Keep this up and I'm going to have to grant you land and titles.

Seriously, I didn't know Geek & Sundry existed. The Guild of course I knew, but the Geek & Sundry umbrella is new to me. I'm tempted to reach out to them, but I'm not sure I could handle the sheer level of awesomeness that would be involved if either The Guild or TableTop were to actually shoot something onsite!

EDIT: Message sent. I have no idea if anything will come from this, but the possibility is too awesome not to give it a shot. And as much as I'd love to have Felicia Day and cast on site, the TableTop show seems to make even more sense, particularly with us trying to set up a full on board/pen and paper gaming environment.

Another suggestion, if you can't find anyone, is to perhaps add games like Castle Ravenloft or other D&Dish co-op games that don't really require a DM.

I love where you're taking your vision of the castle.

Indeed, we're going to do those as well. We're planning on having board game weekends as well as board game tournaments. Lots of ideas, lots of ideas!

Every time I re-visit this thread, it becomes more awesome.

Murder mystery nights could be interesting as well. I wonder if there is a Game of Thrones angle you could leverage... "It was Joffrey in the tower with his Mom and... ewwwww"

I was going to accuse you of filthy skimming, but then I realized that a) the posts in question were in a different thread, and b) leveling the skimmer charge at you would be mean, and I don't want to be mean!

We actually have already booked and sold out one Murder Mystery, and have booked but not yet announced two more. One of those will be zombie themed, and I'm hoping to fill it with GWJers before I announce it to the public.

Arise thread!

Over the last two weeks MonoCheli and I have spent a bit of brain power (just a bit, we don't have that much to spare between us!) working on how to best set up our gaming weekends. Add to that a wonderful conversation and some stellar advice from Mr. Michael Zenke, and things are starting to shape up.

We're actually hoping to put the first Gaming Getaway (working title) on the calendar here before too long. It will be set up to be more intimate than a full fledged convention, with capacity limited to six to twelve people.

We would like to do these semi-regularly, which would require a cadre of game masters. So we are still looking for more people who might be interested in running a game during such a weekend. If you have some decent game-mastering skills and are interested, please give Mono or myself a shout.

Final note: These Gaming Getaways (working title!) are only one of the things we're planning. Mono is noodling around plans for a MTG tournament, we are still planning on offering a package aimed at pre-existing gaming groups, and of course RavenCon is still a thing that will be happening at some point. More details as we have them.

A lawyer that owns a castle and plans to host MTG tourneys there. You are my hero. I think I just wept.

You should also totally hit up Michael Robles, who is the WotC MtG Community Guy. PM me your names and contact info and I will email him. I can't promise he will have time, but I can pass on contact info.

Well call me late to the party. T-man didn't tell me this thread existed and with the move and all I haven't been just keeping up with my fav threads. I have been getting settled in. It looks like we will be going to Gen Con to try and woo Geek Chic in to having us promote them in the castle. We also looking to make other potential gaming connections while we are there.

So do you want to go to Gen Con and meet with Geek Chic?

Uhhh yeah I'll go to Gen Con if you really want me too.

[quote=Teneman]Yeah I think it would be a good business decision for us to do that. [quote]

Pm incoming, thanks mudbunny WotC was on my list of people to talk to.

Awesome, thanks mudbunny. WotC and Paizo are definitely on our list. Taking a look at the exhibitor run down, it looks like there's quite a list of folks Mono and I are going to want to chat with!

Check yer PMs folks. You has a contact person!!

Thanks again Mudbunny. Email has been sent, we'll see where we go from here! This should be an interesting couple of days next week!

Do you mind if I throw up a flag on twitter??

If I knew what that meant I might know whether I'd mind or not But since I don't, we'll just assume that I don't mind!

Seriously, I've got a twitter account running around somewhere, but haven't used it much at all, so I know virtually nothing about it. Something that Mono and I are going to have to work on.

I will just direct my followers on twitter who might be interested to come look at this thread.

Ah gotcha, thanks. You inspired me to dust off my Twitter account as well. I even managed to find my password and get signed in!

And I followed you back!

I am at mudbunny74 if you want to follow me.

Tracked you down and followed you! And Tanglebones. And a few other folks that you guys follow. If you see @reedjam99, that's me. I also have @RavenwoodCastle, but that hasn't been doing anything but auto-tweeting our Facebook updates. Thanks guys.
