NCAA Football 2013 game catch-all

Got another pick 6 in week 10 or so. LB out in the flat. Defense really tore it up.

Got a long stretch to play this afternoon and finished up my first season. Beat #1 Iowa (yes, Iowa) in the BCS Championship. My defense showed up huge with a 4th and goal on the 1 stop, an INT in the end zone, and a fumble recovery at the 2 yard line, returned all the way to the other 20. Couldn't quite finish the fumble TD since a LB picked it up and some WR ran him down. 28-0 domination.

It was nice to see a couple of B-rated teams squeak through to the finals.

Anyway heading to my offseason and I plan to use this conference realignment guide I found to restructure and keep things as they really will be in 2013.

Sadly when I got to the first offseason week I have about 10 guys who want to transfer. Basically every guy that I redshirted. Guess I'm going to have to do a lot of convincing to keep them around. I had about the 15th best recruiting class, and was figuring I'd even end up having to cut some guys. But if all these players leave I'll end up playing freshmen in a few spots. Never saw so many guys leaving my team before in years of dynasty. It's not like I recruited those guys and promised them no redshirt or anything. They were just there, and so low on the depth chart they wouldn't have played anyway. Can't believe they're all bolting.

Anyway... onto the offseason!

EDIT: And the new promises are ridiculous. I had some DBs and LBs wanting to leave. You can promise a number of games, number of tackles and number of INTs/sacks based on position. The numbers for tackles were 40, 80, 120. For INTs: 3, 6, 9. For sacks: 5, 10, 15.

Maybe if that tackles counts assisted, that's sort of reasonable. Still I don't think anyone on my team had over 100. The team leader in INTs had 5, and my team was 5th in the country in total INTs. And my team leader in sacks had 8.

And I'm supposed to promise these guys not just more playing time, but promise them they will be better than my 1st team all-conference guys were this past year? Yeah right!

Spoiled sh*ts. They won't get a championship ring anywhere else, I'll be damned sure of that. :p

Just had a strange glitch. I couldn't load my week 2 game in an offline dynasty. It would completely freeze my Xbox up everytime I tried to load the game. I could, however, advance the dynasty to the next week. I haven't tried to play the next game yet, so we'll see how that goes...

I had this exact same thing happen on my UMASS dynasty. Tried loading it about 6 times and froze every time.

I fired this up again and was able to play my week 3 game. So, at least I could sim the offending game and move on, but that's a pretty bad bug – one that freezes your whole Xbox!

I didn't get that xbox freeze issue but in my last two games, I've had some players glitch. They would run around in slow motion while the rest of the game moved normal.

Google this on Operation Sports. This is happening to many people, unfortunately.

Well, I'll hold off on that particular dynasty. There are achivements for winning the title with UMASS in one year. To have a chance, you have to stack your schedule with high ranked teams. Can't afford to lose even one of the weeks.

Hopefully there will be a patch in the near future.

The community manager for EA is actually posting on Operation Sports. And he's making reference to the bugs on Twitter.

I ended up caving and buying the game because I'm an idiot who loves football. So far I haven't encountered these bugs. But it's disappointing to hear this.

The menu freezes happen on PS3 as well. I've had 3 times I had to hard reset.

Haven't had the not able to enter game yet but I also haven't tried with one of the new teams.

I swear wasn't this a problem in last year's game? WKU or someone, one of the new FBS teams would glitch out?

Had a game lock up as I was going into the half. Bummer I had a 21-14 lead at home with Oregon State over Wisconsin.

So the offseason recruiting has last year's graphics for in-home visits. Pretty jarring after getting used to this year's display the whole season.

That's funny. Just played that game. Except I'm playing the Heisman mode with Barry Sanders at Wisconsin. Seemed like that's where he'd be running if he played today.

They're saying on Operation Sports to try doing a manual save every week. Some are having success with this. I'm playing a Dynasty with Oregon State as well as my Heisman season (Offline, fwiw) and I haven't frozen yet 4 weeks in. I save manually every week out of habit.

Well, the biggest changes aside from AI seem to be changing the menus, the updates during the game and that "bullet time" mode when you're playing Heisman. I suppose it could be something obscure with the new teams. We've seen roster bugs before. My money, though, would be on it being somewhere in the code that has to do with simming scores for the updates during the game. I don't know if it's new, but some people have sorted out that every week you roll the scores for the games are the exact same unless you reload a save. The implication being that it didn't used to be that way and that now there is possibly some heavy lifting taking place for every week of the season.

So I can see now how a person might get the Heisman achievements, honestly. Not only is it fun to play with the legends, but it isn't a typically Road To Glory style mode. The games go really quick and you're just playing your side of the ball. Pretty sweet. I might run through a few of these. I only wish that, like NBA2k, playing through these unlocked the players to be used elsewhere. Or that there were legendary teams to unlock. I wouldn't mind if the NCAA paid players if the result was that we could get full named rosters, etc. in the game.

DS, I could be wrong but I think if you win the Heisman with the player, you can use them in RTG mode. When I finished the season up with RG3, it said something to that effect.

Sure. I don't want to do more RTG, though. If I unlock him I'd love to be able to just add him to a team. Or recruit him or something.

PS3 rosters are out. I know, I know, just for me.

Title Update news.

Gameplay
Zone Defense has been updated.
-We improved receiver leverage logic as well as predicting when a receiver will be in or out of their zone.
-Improved Deep Half Zone decision making about when to split between uncovered receivers. Also, allow more zone overlapping in deep half to cover more area.
-Deep half defenders were dropping too close to the sideline or dropping outside when no receiver was outside of their position.

No-Huddle QB Spy bug fixed. Defenders will no longer go into spy assignments while in man coverage.
Receivers weren’t looking for hot-read passes.
CPU QBs passing during the drop would get set passes instead of on-the-run inaccurate passes.
Change the logic of man defenders so they don't run into the backfield and past the receiver they are covering.
Route running near sideline was causing issues especially on comeback routes.
Fixed players not respecting global show blitz/press/back off coverage after handing off a receiver.
Fixed sideline streak routes so they don't get clamped in a way that the route would end after 10 or 15 yards.
Drive summaries should now reset after each scoring drive.

Dynasty
Once a promise becomes active, it was duplicating after each week advance.
Recruit Reports & Advisory options remained even after the "Allow Time Savers" setting was turned off.
Schools with a D+ Program Tradition could not get their grade increased through wins and championships.
In the off-season, post season games were not shown to have been played.

Custom Playbooks
Fixed an issue where if CPU coaches were given a custom playbook, the players were occasionally lining up close to the ball.
Fixed an issue where the user was unable to create an offensive playbook that consisted of 1 of every formation.
Fixed an issue where the user was sometimes losing functionality after the UI disappears in Custom Playbooks.

Increased the stability of the product by fixing various crashes.

And from the same article, if you have that dynasty game load crash:

There is a work-around for the Dynasty crash until the patch is released. If you run into the crash loading in to game, you need to resave your dynasty file. You can do this by renaming your dynasty or making a change and triggering the auto-save feature. When you do this, it will optimize the file and you can continue playing.

I've been playing mostly with Iowa in anticipation of our dynasty beginning (hopefully soon!). I have to say, it's a bit jarring. In our NCAA12 dynasty, Iowa was one of the toughest games every season, no matter their record. So, I've been trained to be depressed upon hearing their fight song play...but now it means good things have happened.

I'm so confused.

Also, I just played a game against #2 MSU in my dynasty. Wow...Iowa and MSU are the same team, except that MSU is better. (Not that I lost to them, they just have better players...)

firesloth did you see my dynasty post from the other day in this thread? I ended up beating Iowa in the BCS Championship in my first season.

And in 2013 I scheduled them in non-conference. Time to start up a rivalry hehe.

Been practicing with Tulsa. It's like playing with pop Warner kids. I run FSU in my online pickup games, HUGE difference.

I usually run with Michigan and have swapped in Cincinnati. Different animal completely.

Although Munchie Legaux is a bad ass name.

Okay, Purdue's away uniforms are sweet. White or off white and black. Their helmets are a subdued gold/cream color. Sharp.

Oh yeah, they removed Louisville's black uniforms this year. I loved having my own "black out" for big games at home. Still no idea why there are less options than before, when they did go in and add a new intro animation (Cardinal bird parachuting in, which I've seen before and is awesome )

just a heads up...I will be out of town starting tomorrow and wont be back until Saturday of next week, in case anything important came up and I dont say anything, lol.

Well I don't think I mentioned it the other day, but I broke my previous 82yd TD INT return record with an 89 yd one in game 2 of the 2nd season.

Then just now in game 6, I broke that record with a 102yd TD INT return from a pick in the endzone. Of course the worst part is the highlights of these are cut off and don't even show the pick, or the moves after to get to the sideline, like the great block one of my LB threw to seal off the guy who had an angle on me before I broke past the line. Still, some solid blocking by my team and having the player speed threshold at 25 still feels right. A CB/WR can outrun everyone, but a TE/LB is probably going to get caught, and an OL/DL player has no chance to make a huge carry. I did get one 80yd fumble return from a LB but he got caught before the endzone, and really that's fair I think. My only fumble return TD was actually a DE in week 1, but it was only a 25 yd pickup, so not enough time for the WRs downfield to catch up to him. He barely made it in past the RB/FB that was chasing him though.

Defense is definitely winning championships for me. Loving it.

Wow, probably one of my best ever defensive games in my year 2 finale against Cincinnati. Had an INT for no return on their first possession. My 2nd TD came on a scoop n score from midfield! QB tried to scramble and I popped him with a LB. Safety came in and grabbed the ball and before you knew it he was through the line and gone.

Forced another fumble in the 2nd, to set up good field position, but they held me to a FG. So up 17-3 and they ran back the kickoff. I managed to get a TD right before half to go up 24-10. That was my shining offensive play. Teddy Bridgewater got "bruised shoulder, will return later" and my backup tossed it up to my All-American WR who went up, caught it, shoved the CB off of him with one hand, and then ran over the safety to score.

Then I ran back the 2nd half kickoff for a 97yd TD!

On their first possession of the 3rd quarter, my LB makes an INT and I returned it 45yd for a TD! The HB almost ran me down, if it had been a couple yards more I wouldn't have scored. Whew.

On their second possession of the 3rd, I had another fumble return TD! Same deal, their QB tried to scramble, I drilled him with the LB and the other LB picked it up and ran 20 yards.

Nothing like drumming a rival by 40 points with 3 defensive TDs and one on special teams.

Sheesh I did it again to SMU in the conference championship. 1 fumble return TD 92 yds when my CB intercepted an option pitch. 2 other INT TDs, one of 30 yards with a LB and one of 40 yards with a safety.

I think I've finally figured out defense after 3 games and a bunch of seasons... I finally started controlling one of my LBs instead of the DT or DE. Whole different ballgame, mixing up coverage vs blitz vs run defense. But after a few games it's really starting to click.

Or maybe Cincy and SMU are just pass-happy teams and I really exploited them. We'll see what happens with Texas in the BCS game.

EDIT: Also how can I be undefeated, #2 in the country, and only have 1 1st team and 1 2nd team All-American? And win no awards, and only be nominated for even one award? 5 min played quarters vs 15-min simmed? I guess.

Maybe I should start super-simming in-game to get some more snaps. That feels like cheating though.

Just picked this up. I can't tell you how pumped I get seeing Tiger fly before home games at Auburn. War.Damn.Eagle.

I have to admit I am SO tempted to start a Penn State season and purposefully lose every game.

Any Penn St fans better grab some named rosters now, before the transfer wave starts.

All the players can apparently transfer with no sitting out penalty.
