NCAA Football 2013 game catch-all

so...im kinda upset with amazon at the moment. I thought the site said I would get it today but when I got home from work, no game was waiting on me. I got an email about 7pm eastern time to let me know that my order was now shipped and I should expect it around Friday. Damn Amazon.

Did you not select 2-day shipping when you pre-ordered?

Anyway maybe there will be some rosters ready by the time you get it.

Interesting glitch.

I was on defense and jarred the ball loose on a pass that was initially ruled a fumble but was reviewed by the booth and overturned(correctly)

HOWEVER....

On the next play, my offense was still on the field and their defense was still on the field. So we had to run a play like this. My TE picked off their FS.

/sigh

Wow. That's amazing. As a software developer I feel for the team on that one. That's a complete fluke. How did that never come up in QA?

Well the whole replay thing has always been flukey. They let you pick the next play before the replay, and then stop things and erase what happened. Or sometimes they uphold it, and you have to select your play again. But mostly it just sucks time and I can't skip it.

And half the time I see a guy's foot in/out-bounds and the call is the opposite. So I'd rather just not see it. Ugh.

Denard Robinson just got wrapped up by a DT....

....and threw a tight spiral for 15 yards to a wide open receiver....

Arms were pinned to his body.....and the ball shot off his chest like a cannon.

I'm afraid to say it but this might be my last year getting this. The gameplay snafus only seem to pile up and never get resolved.

Oh yeah the game is 18 kinds of squirrelly, but its football so I'm in.

What really bums me out is that after the experience with the EA "pass" they could easily talk me into paying $80 or so every year for access to 4 sports games for just the year. I'm not sure if on average EA makes more than that, but shareholders love revenue that's predictable and I'd be glad to give them predictable revenue in exchange for only releasing roster updates every other year. It would be nice this year if they could have stood pat with the NCAA 12 engine and had NCAA 14 be where they introduce the Infinity Engine, assuming it works well, with a year of testing under its belt.

Oh wow. Instant Classic in my first dynasty game, 15xx score.

Last night I spent about 90 min getting the UL roster right and just auto-named the rest. I couldn't wait any longer to try out the new dynasty features. So this afternoon I sat down to play. New recruiting stuff seems cool. I was dumb not to use all my scouting minutes in pre-season because you get way less per week during the season it seems. I like how you scout and get points up or down and even how you get a real rating # to start with, even though it fluctuates. Feels like you can really target what you need. And the conversations of course are much better. Only one player option, which still seems worth taking sometimes because it seems (so far, only 15 calls or so) that they pick something that is high, v high, or most on their list to talk about when you let them choose, so it's almost always decent points. I also put a pre-season target on my list that was a pipeline recruit, but only had 5 or so schools on their list. After scouting and calling them, in week 1 they had me at #8 on their list. I may not get this particular one, but at least it seems is more possible to jump on players' lists than it was before. Looking forward to much more of this new system and figuring out the best way to go after guys.

I also love that all the promises are unlocked instead of behind some DLC. Being able to promise a game in home state is an easy bucket of points when I'm recruiting my pipelines in FL or OH and have conference games there.

Anyway about that instant classic game. UK at UL to open the season of course. Another rain game. I overthrew a WR and gave up an INT. A couple of 3-and outs for both teams. To start the 2nd quarter, UK scores on a 60-yd ridiculous pass. The WR falls, my CB slows down with him, then my S pulls in to help and gets beat deep.

I run the kickoff back 98 yards for a TD.

I stop them. Then right before half, I made a nice drive to take the lead back with a 17yd slant TD. It's so nice to be able to throw near the MLB and not have him make a super-human play to bat it down.

3rd quarter, they get another broken 38 yd TD to tie it back up at 14. Although this one might be my fault. I tried to swat the pass since I was in position, but my DB ended up behind the WR just standing there as he caught it. I kick a FG. They kick a FG. Tied 17-17. Under 90 seconds left. Nessler says something like "Davis has already run one back today. Will they kick it to him again?"

I run the kickoff back 97 yards for a TD.

Then it's a slow march against the clock. They make it inside the 30, use their last timeout with 6 seconds left. I get the INT in the back of the end zone as time expires. Rivalry win!

EDIT: Added highlight link for TD return.

Had 3 instant commits in week 2 tonight. Used to think that only happened with 1 guy per week?

Also had an 82yd INT TD return. Pretty sure that's my longest ever. It set the in-game NCAA record (previous 80), so that was nice. 2 NCAA records in 2 weeks, counting that KO return earlier.

I was also quite wrong about the player's choice topic being something they like. But there is some kind of bonus (25-50 points?) for letting them pick a topic. So it's a bit of a risk, but it's better than taking a swing on something they have low/least interest in and getting 0 points for your 10 minutes.

Overall loving the new recruiting.

A little disappointed in some of Louisville's starting ratings. Facilities, TV, fan base, all are down a full letter grade from where they were in the past year or two. Not sure if that's just to try to get me to buy the booster pack or if it's just because you will be able to raise them yourself by winning. Ah well. I'll move up to 4* in no time I'm sure...

Feels like this game is a little more wide open. The defense feels crippled so far. And this new touch passing... I can put the ball anywhere. Lob it up, high bullets, leading, cutbacks, all kinds of crazy throws. And my WRs are going to get it, while the DBs stand there dumbfounded.

But then when I'm on D, I watch balls fly over my safety for easy TDs too... it's in a weird place right now. Maybe EA hated that 9-6 LSU-Bama game last year as much as everyone else.

I found that setting the pass coverage slider to 80 for both the CPU and USER helped quite a bit last night.

For those interested PastaPadre has released his player name rosters.

GamingTailgate apparently has a PS3 set out... but I guess I'm just talking to myself.

OperationSports community stuff should be out this weekend. I think I'll be into season 2 of my dynasty by then though.

I really do love some of the improvements. The icon passing that now lights up when the WR is looking is such a nice touch. Helps me go through my reads now, and know when to throw. Feels like I'm getting better at passing just a few games into it. Then again maybe it's the non-cheating defense now. But either way I like it.

Hey I finally stole a soft recruit from another school!

Don't think I ever pulled that off in the last 2 years and probably 8 or so seasons of dynasties. He was soft-committed to Pitt, but it listed me as 0 points behind in 2nd place. Got lucky with that advisor double score bonus and hit him up for like 600 points, and during the week advance he committed to me.

Found this hilarious from an OS post. He summed the championship game between undefeated Utah and undefeated Alabama.

On offense: 21 plays, 13 TDs, only 2 first downs for Utah.

Wait. Maybe I need to pick up this game after all. That's practically Tecmo Super Bowl.

Surely there were a couple defensive TDs from those turnovers?

Still... damn.

Well, they had 9 passing and 4 rushing TDs...that's 13 total x 7 points = 91 points. So, no defensive TDs!

Oh whoops yeah. Never mind.

That's amazing. I may pick this up this weekend. Maybe they designed a perfect game for me to zone out to in SP. NCAA Tecmo Bowl.

Remember – this was the result of a *simmed* game between those teams.

However, if you play on the easier settings, you can readily run up 90 points.

That's a little less exciting. Super Sim has been so broken for so long. I got bored of playing defense a few years ago and started super simming. I didn't realize how bad it was until someone alerted me to it. Bad in terms of too many possessions, etc.

Yeah simming in general has always been screwed up in this game. Why don't they let me set how many minutes the CPU should sim in my dynasty? Then I could happily play every down of my 5 min quarters and actually have a prayer at leading some stats, and winning some awards. A couple years ago I turned my game up to 7 or 8 min quarters and I was getting great numbers. But it's just so long to play a dozen games and try to get through multiple seasons. Just let me fix the CPU a bit and be on even ground.

NBA 2k even lets you do that in the My Player mode, and of course the Association. I'd just be happy with it in dynasty here.

I wonder how it's going to affect Heisman challenge stuff? Will you have to play on Freshman so you can rack up enough points to actually win the award over the simmed stats?

EDIT: Especially in dynasty now that your school grades are determined by your statistics. Well if I want to run 200yds a game, I don't have time to pass for 200, so I end up with great ratings for one position and bad for the other. Despite being an efficient passer and completing probably 70% of what I do throw, I'm going to be punished in recruiting because my stats don't match up with whatever the sim numbers are.

I can hang 50-90 points on the CPU, depending on team. The AI is awful defending run audibles and with a speedy back that breaks outside runs you can do some damage. You have to play real people who can shoot the gap or chase the back with the safety to see any run stopping. Also difficulty settings really change things.

Playing my first real game...OMG!! I just threw over a linebacker!

Just had a strange glitch. I couldn't load my week 2 game in an offline dynasty. It would completely freeze my Xbox up everytime I tried to load the game. I could, however, advance the dynasty to the next week. I haven't tried to play the next game yet, so we'll see how that goes...

What team firesloth? Several people were reporting problems like that with the new FBS teams. UTSA maybe?

Anyway I had another pick 6 tonight in week 7 of my dynasty. And another almost kickoff return. Like an 80 yarder where they caught me inside the 20 somehow.

And then in week 8 Teddy Bridgewater broke his collarbone on the game winning drive. Out for 12 weeks.

I love the fact that in Heisman mode Barry Sanders appears to be 6'2" instead of like 5'0"
