Guild Wars 2 and GWJ: Launch Date And Final Beta Weekend

Also, if one player is "behind", it's not like WoW where you catch up or people have to follow you with buff skills to speed you up.

There's also a level scaling system, when a max level character joins a level 10-15 zone they are automatically scaled down (which is another way to reward world wide exploration) so they can join in on the content.

Conversely, a low level player can be "sidekicked" into a higher level party and are temporarily leveled up for the higher level content, but still gain level appropriate loot (and regular exp)

Found this on Guru forums:

Quote:
Squads are a way for larger groups of people to band together for a common goal. Squads are led by a commander, and that commander has the ability to talk to everyone in their squad in a chat channel that only the commander can talk in. Commanders can also place waypoints on the map that are viewable by all of their squad members. These waypoints tell the squad to do things like' attack here', 'regroup here', and 'bring supply here'. Squads are extremely useful in WvW, but they are also useable in PvE and are the perfect thing for taking down our epic world bosses.

The commander is self appointed. We have an item that people purchase for gold that gives the ability to turn on the Commander function. When you become a commander, anyone not in a squad will see the commander icon over your head and can select you, right click on your portrait and select 'join squad'. Also, when someone is following a commander, you can right click on their portait to join their squad and follow the same commander. I dont believe there is a limit to who can be in a squad, but that might not be true, I'll have to check with the programmer who implemented the system.

This game can't get here soon enough.

If you're looking forward to the Warrior, here's a fun video from TB showing off your awesomeness:

That greatsword warrior scares me so much.

ArenaNet just announced a new profession.

Meet the Commando.

Spoiler:

I have a feeling this is an April Fools joke that slipped a little early.

That was last April fool's feature. Pretty amusing though.

Ah, I must have missed it. Definitely better than Pandas.

Now I am glad you posted it and not me

That video and the yogcast one for the warrior that displayed a lot of the hammer gameplay make the warrior seem pretty powerful.

But fairly straightforward, and thus, the least interesting of the classes to me.

Part 1 of a Dungeon Run

Reminds me a bit of Dark Souls. Now the wait is harder on me. Want.

There was someone named Xephos in that video... hmmmmmmm.

Good grief, why did he run around with 200 health for the first 5 minutes without using his heal? It was really freaking me out.

Updated the OP with new information. We'll be able to buy the game on April 10th.

I haven't gotten a rejection letter yet, although I don't recall if I unchecked the box to get newsletter.

Fingers crossed.

Just wanted to point out that you'll automatically get in the beta and enjoy a three day headstart if you preorder

http://kotaku.com/5892778/the-150-gu...

I am definitely pre ordering to get in to the beta events. May even get the collectors ed, statue looks sweet.

There are apparently reports that the first beta invites are trickling in. I think they're not breaking anything yet, since you sign the NDA after you agree to sign up.

So if you didn't get a rejection email, cross your fingers I guess.

Arena Net stated that invites will be going out in waves over the next few days. So don't give up hope if you have not received one yet.

Unless your missed to sign up for beta. :V

There will be more chances to sign up. I don't expect GW2 "soon", more like it's appearing on the horizon now.

If you preorder you get access to the once beta events held ~ once a month. I don't know how exactly long the events are, but it's like a taste of the guild wars crack.

Also I read that you can join multiple guilds with the same character and select one upon login. I find that a pretty interesting concept. If you are in the GWJ guild, you don't have to make an alt to join your friend's small guild or some big WvW oriented guild

The first beta weekend event starts on April 27th! This event has no NDA so everyone is allowed to talk about it.

I think now is a good time to start discussing plans for the GWJ guild. We should dedicate some time in the next beta to play around with the guild management system.

Guild Bank? Crafting materials, maybe crafted gear to help alts along faster, stuff you find that you don't need for your own class, etc

I've updated the OP. I've been a slack-ass about that, sorry all.

I want to talk with folks about Guild-running duties. Since GW2's guild system is different than any other, I think it would behoove us to have a 'cabal' run the guild. Rather rely on one person.

I'll also be honest: while I want to be involved in running the guild, on reflection I think relying on me in the long term for hour commitments is a bad bet. : / I say this not because I feel like I'm going to lose interest in GW2 (something that definitely happened with TOR). I say instead because by the end of the summer I'll probably be looking at crunch hours.

So yeah. Worth chatting about.

What are the usual "Guild running duties"? If GW2 grabs me at all like the original GW I should be around for a while and I have enough free time. I wouldn't mind helping out.

I could probably lend a hand as well.

I am also willing to help out.

The top priority should be making sure there is enough people that have access to give out invites. I do like that invites are account wide so we will not need to worry about alts.

I remember back when the original GW came out we all voted on our guild emblem. We should probably do something similar this time. We will also have to decide as a group how we want to spend influence.

I would love to organize some WvW nights where we could get a big group together and try and claim a keep for ourselves and see how long we can hold it.

That sounds like a plan. Probably should establish the basic leadership cadre, a name (I may have missed that), a comms path (I'd like to use the GWJ Vent server), and the ancillary items like Guild symbol, bank rules etc... Also - probably a good idea to establish a good list of who are the experts and resources for game knowledge - who is the go to question guys. I never got into the original all that much as I was deployed, but I know Lobster and several others knew the game inside and out and followed the development of this one pretty tightly. Maybe a thread that consolidates all the good input from this thread and others to get folks up to speed for release.

Just a few random ramblings.
