Veloxi, I dig your work most of the time, but not this. Your dislike/hatred/loathing of this game is well documented, why are you posting here? Some folks like the game.
Like some of the others, I haven't played this game in a LONG time. One tip no one else has mentioned:
The time/turn limit to the battles means that--depending on fleet makeups and tech differences--battles are usually not fights to the death, ending in one fleet completely destroyed. Instead they are usually fights of attrition, ships will be lost, but generally a number of damaged ships will remain alive on the losing side. This more realistic take on battles was one of the things I enjoyed a lot about the game. Make sure you take full advantage of the feature, make sure that you have repair ships/bases near your front line, and keep up with the relevant techs. Pull damaged fleets back for repair and replace them with fresh ones. Against a similar strength enemy that will give you a big edge.
If you find that you aren't seeing any straggling survivors after losing battles that may be a sign your ships are too much towards the glass cannon scale. That can be the optimal build for single battles, but rarely for an entire campaign.
Ha, whoops. Thanks, everyone, for your recommendations, but I mistakenly posted in this thread, when I meant to post in the Endless SPACE forum.
Thanks, anyway!

Quoted for prosperity. I think you've done the rare double-flip-wrong-post. Either that or you've gotten the name of the game mixed up repeatedly.

Sorry man, sometimes bitterness gets the better of me.
I feel Veloxi's pain. I saw the thread resurrected and was hoping for a mod or something that changed everything for the better but it sounds like it's still MoO3.
Well it seems like giving advice is over, but i just remembered one so I am going to give it anyways. It goes in line with tboon's "3. When you find a system with a wormhole, colonize there if you can and try to get a decent fleet parked there. This will keep other factions out of your stuff for a long while." and that is you don't always have to take that one, instead if you take a ship and set it to "Guard System" on those planets (I prefer to guard the planets that have wormholes into the system I want). Guard System (looks like a shield around the system) will stop any ship from leaving that system unless you have a peace treaty with them (I think, I know one of the diplomacy options allow them to pass). Early game I just use one or two ships and if possible guard the exit systems of the nearest players to me. As I tech up I send better ships out so that the other players are more or less trapped on their side while I colonize the rest of the galaxy.
Also any system you colonize will be an outpost for X turns ( I forget the number) and eventually turn into a recognized part of your empire, when it does it will have a sphere of influence around it. Your empire's influence will stop other empires from colonizing planets within it. For such reason colonizing those systems tboon recommended are even better, because when their influence pops, all nearby planets become off limits. If you play an empire with increased influence, you can even effect planets in nearby galaxy with your influence reach.
I think I might go back and play a game of this, it has been a while since I played. I wasn't a big fan of the dlc.

He's waiting for the Distant Worlds mod.

Ha! This was my own (internal monologue) response too. Didn't care for Endless Space, but I'm glad others still have enthusiasm for it.
Steam Holiday Sale has the Gold Edition for $7. Worth it or no? I'm asking people who actually got some enjoyment out of it, not those who very clearly did not. (Someone else said it best, but if you hate the game so much why even waste time posting in this thread?)

So, you want people to tell you whether or not it's worth it, except that you don't want people responding who will tell you it's not worth it.
You could save us some effort, and just buy the damn thing.

No, he's asking the far outliers who hate everything the game stabs for and want it to die in a fire not to respond, so those that are left in the spectrum from "liked it a little", to "liked it a lot" can give more measured responses.
If I were to give a cake to Endless Space it would probably be $15, so I definitely recommend it for $7 with the usual caveat that the tactical combat inthe game is very weak. There is a lot more input from you than in the GalCivs, but far less than in MoO or Sword of the Stars.

Ask for some milk to go with it?

Yeah, that's sort of the response I was looking for thanks. Negative impressions are fine, just ridiculous posts like Malor's and Veloxi's are pointless.

Or you could save yourself the time and just don't bother replying to what you obviously see as a pointless post, ya think? I'm guessing that thought never even popped into your head, right? As much as you are on here, time can't possibly be a problem so I really don't see what you've got to complain about. I really find it hilarious when people like you take gaming forums so seriously, thanks for amusing me with your completely idiotic and worthless post.
EDIT: Out of the four posts you've graced us with; two were Female Doggoing about the game and it's DLC, one was a legitimate question after you *GASP* bought it (which I don't even understand based on your previous two posts), and the last was the little gem above.
Endless Space and GalCiv2 will tear these boards asunder.
Is Darksiders any good?
[Endless] Space is an issue!

I liked you, right up to this post.
Overall, ES was worth my $15 - Emperor Edition + Disharmony. The races play very different, the maps are well laid out, and there was an actual point to defending the systems with special resources in them.

Seriously. I'm still confused as to why these 2 games elicit such a strong response.
Christmas is almost upon us, gentlemen. Why the vitriol around Endless Space impression?
I got this way back in its early access debut when it was a staggering, preposterous $27. Well, I'm not a 4x expert but I was initially quite taken with the gigantic technology web and pretty graphics. A couple weeks later and I was done with it. I guess I found it extremely sterile. There's a lot of 'stuff' going on that is typical of these kind of games. Just not a lot of reason for me to care about any of it.
That said, $7 for a game of this production quality? Hard to go wrong, really.

If you play 1 5-hour game, you've got $7 worth out of it. You'll probably play more than that. I enjoyed my time with it and I'll prob go back and play a bit more.
Personally I still miss playing this in multiplayer with Jam3. Playing this game with him showed me the strength of some of the races I didn't see before. It was interesting how my beginner race amoeba that shows the entire map was his most hated race for the sole reason that it took away the joy of discovery when he played them. He enjoyed discovering the map with every ship jump into an unknown area.
The game is worth your 7 dollars and then some. It was a fun game, even with its flaws.
I liked you, right up to this post.
Your approval of me isn't required, wanted, or for that matter even relevant. I came here to talk about video games in a calm and courteous manner with people who share my interest. Maybe that's too much to ask? I've never had a single bad interaction with anyone on this board in the five years since I joined, that is until now.
All I did was post a simple question, never did I say ANYTHING about not wanting negative impressions. What I didn't want was the trollish response I received, and from reading through this thread it's pretty clear I'm not the only one. I honestly did not feel I deserved it so I reacted. In hindsight I don't feel my reply was any worse than others. In my opinion Malor went out of his way just to be an ass for no good reason, and I have every right to call him out on it. If the moderators feel I've stepped over the line they of course can deal with it however they like. Suspend or ban my account, whatever is appropriate.

Now see this is more the type of response I was looking for. I don't have a problem with people telling me what they did and did not like about the game. On the contrary, that's why I came to this thread in the first place! What I don't like is people who very clearly disliked everything about the game, have already more than voiced their opinions on said dislike, yet for some reason feel it their mission in life to continue to troll up the thread for no reason. "Buy something else!" and "Just save us the trouble and buy the damn thing!" in my opinion are clearly not helpful.
Back on topic: I picked up the game and have dabbled a bit, but haven't had time yet to really get a game going. Not very jazzed about the interface, but it's starting to grow on me. Thank you to everyone who posted real impressions, good and bad. Regardless of what some others may think, it is appreciated.
The interface does take some getting used to but it does grow on you. I happened to really like the game a lot. The space battle system, however, I thought was terrible. I wish that I could force myself to autoresolve but for some reason I make myself watch those same videos over and over.
But for $7, heck yes it's worth it.
I picked this up when it was $1 (!!) on Steam recently and have been having fun. Anyone have tips for a science victory? I heard a tip that long-range kinetics were the thing to do, and ever since my fleets utterly wipe the floor with the AI. Hence I'm trying to diversify my wins.
