When do you think you'll be starting a new game? I'm comfortable enough with the game now that some multiplayer might be fun.
alot of times we start new games on saturday when we finish our weekly sins game (around 4 or 5 pm EST or later). Also we could sometimes start it on random week days we see each other on and want to start a game, but normally saturday after sins is our most common time for starting a game.
So I bid and bought the game. Started a normal. Is it usual to not be able to build another colony ship 10-15 turns in because you don't have enough of whatever the gears symbolize? Industry?

Yeah. Make sure you spec out for high food production early on (and when establishing new systems) to get enough population on a system to make it a net producer of resources for your empire instead of a net consumer of resources.

Don't MAKE me come into your space strategy/sim thread and ask if you're still blogging!
Show me on the doll where Endless Space touched you, Veloxi.

Star Trek review what?

No one wants to play multi with me anymore. And Jam3 is waiting for them to allow per-selection of cards before battle before he plays. Cause if you have 100 ship combats you have to do, letting it "auto" is like letting it kill your fleet.

I'll play with you anytime. So you can hold my hand through those scary first 50 turns.

I'm making an effort here, baby, and I think you should appreciate that.
Grabbed a copy during the Steam Autumn sale. Started my first game tonight. I'm having fun with it so far. The tech tree is immense.
Well, I was about to get this game.
First few minutes, it reminds me of MOO.. might be a nice addition to my collection.
Free to play this weekend! Try it out! I am! :-D. Will probably pick up after this weekend or during the DeSteamber sales.
They still haven't added auto-retreat / auto-resolve with cards, ugh ugh ugh.
I'm going to give it a shot too. It's been on my radar.
It's a one-more-turn kind of game.. oh my gawd..
Was suppose to be asleep at 10:30 PM yersterday, realize it was midnight too late :S
It's somehow failing to grab me =/

Me too. I really like parts of it but it doesn't engage me like I was hoping.
I think what it is is that I haven't found that many interesting decisions. I explore, expand to the best planets, exploitation is fairly rote, and extermination seems to lack any drama. I've not yet found myself trying to negotiate that knife-edge between military development and economic exploitation that defines what I look for in this genre.

have you played multiplayer or only single player? Other than the battle cinematics the multi is pretty fun and best when all in vent trying to hash deals while backstabbing. Though there are some house rules to go by. Namely don't start battles until both sides ate ready. It is easy to force a person to fight without cards by starting a battle with one player and then after it begins queue another battle with another player. While the first goes on the second is defaulted on, and unless they fixed it, defaulted battles, when no selection is made, are played without cards. We found this out the hard way.
One shouldn't have to play multiplayer in order to find the fun in a game if single player is an option. This game is simply lacking in soul. I have a lot of patience with space games, and even I get a feeling of ennui just thinking about playing it any further. So. Dull.

hmm, well considering games like Sins of a Solar Empire who have no real single player mode I guess I am more open to games who's strong point might be more multiplayer than single player. By all means I dont give this game a free ride, it has ton of problems, the card combat being the most glaring issue that has stopped me from being able to play the game, but it has its good points too. I have played the game 50 50 between single player and multiplayer, though my single player gameplay is mostly if not completely skirmishes. Off the top of my head I dont even know if it has a single player story style. I agree with some of the others that the game is a great "just one more turn" game. It has flaws and bright spots, but you cant expect every game to be a diamond in the rough, some times you just get some good flawed gems that are good for a few hours of fun and maybe they can fix it later to be even better. I mean hey, it isnt as bad as the release of Sword of the Stars 2, or even the current version of it. Yes I know Jam3 is a strong supporter of SotS2 and we have even burned through an afternoon playing it, but it is a game that still has issues here and there and needs a wiki just to play it. I think Endless Space is more complete than that, but does have some semi fatal flaws that can definitely push people away.
I dont know, maybe I just think "So. Dull." is a bit more cutting then the game deserves, my own opinion though, as is your opinion yours.
