School's Out, Pile is in Session

As we move into the warmer months, the lure of the great outdoors becomes stronger. Don't let your pile skills atrophy. Totally non-authentic scientific studies show that you can lose 4-5 games over the Summer break. Do you want to start the Fall behind the curve? Perhaps you should contact Hemi's Pile Learning Center. Here at HPLC, we help you set goals so that you don't lose your skills and are ready to dive back into the pile once the cooler months come back around.

If you're interested, m0nk3yboy, has the 12 month pile plan thread over here.

A quick reminder, in order to be considered "Pile of Shame" the game needs to be at least three months old. Otherwise, it's just a new game you haven't gotten to playing yet.

Also, if you are curious about some of the previous threads, Pick's of the Pile, etc... Please go here and check out the Google doc I setup.

Let's get on to the games!

This month's Pick of the Pile is

Psychonauts

"Psychonauts is based on the exploits of Raz, a young boy gifted with psychic abilities who runs away from the circus to try to sneak into a summer camp for those with similar powers in order to become a "Psychonaut". He finds that there is a sinister plot occurring at the camp that only he can stop. The game is centered on the widely strange and imaginative minds of various characters that Raz enters as a Psychonaut-in-training/"Psycadet" in order to help them overcome their fears or memories of their past, so as to gain their help and progress in the game. Raz gains use of several psychic abilities during the game that are used for both attacking foes and solving puzzles." (wikipedia.com)

I have been slacking in my pile removal this year. I'm about 25% through Dragon Quest IX for the DS and will make an effort to finish that this month.

Demonic intervention prevented me from beating Mario 3D Land. Looks like a light month for me, so barring any surprises I should be able to do it this month.

Put me down for Super Mario 3D Land (3DS) again.

I think I want to try and finish up Crysis 2 this month. Last month's Dragon Age crash really soured me on that one.

Saints Row 3

Skyward Sword! It's the only console game I'm working on.

My handheld fortune cookie says: Devil Survivor Overclocked. Heh. I apparently need to have three Megaten games running concurrently.

Bulletstorm for me...though I think I'm already halfway through it. Probably finish it up this weekend and move on to something else...

I'm going to be ambitious and pick two games right out of the game. Psychonauts and Mirror's Edge.

I played a bit of Psychonauts this afternoon and, if there's a lot of combat, I'm not sure I'll be able to stick with it. The controls are ass in that game.

Well, I finished my carry-over from last month already. The Baconing is done, with all but one (11 of 12) of the achievements. The only one left, which I'll never do is, to beat the game on insane, which is 2 difficulty levels higher than what I beat it on.

Dun know what's next yet.

That didn't take long...finished up Bulletstorm this evening. Turns out I only had a chapter and a half left to go. Kind of a meh game for me. Just got tired of the game towards the end, and the final chapter was a bit of a slog. I'd say it was worth the 5 bucks I paid for it, but wouldn't have been happy had I spent much more on it. Anyways, moving on. Don't know what I'm going to play next, but I might start on Mass Effect 3 (came out in March...now a pile game?).

Still working on Persona 3. If I can keep up the pace it should get done soon.

It appears I may have some hardware issues with Mirror's Edge and I really don't feel like dicking around with the game to make it work right now. I'm going to push that one to the bottom of the pile for when I have fewer games to get to.

Dungeon Keeper (PC) - on mission 9
Braid (PC/multi) - world 2 solved, world 3 traversed.

Feeling a bit conservative this month.

Same. It seems my experiment in going hard just meant I had unfinished business at the end of the month.

Sorry Hemi, looks like I'm going to be giving you updates through the month to add into the list

To that end:
WWE Legends of WrestleMania (multi)
Truth or Lies (multi)

I'll be plonking along with the Witcher 2 during the month as well, but that's not Pile Worthy for a while yet. Figured I owed myself some 'recent' gaming focus.

Not knowing your system / settings, vsyns and physx - switch them. Those are the most common issues with that game and can have massive impacts on performance.

I'm going to take another stab at Pokemon Sapphire. I can't possibly have another 15 hours left in the game, so I should be able to finish it this month. I'm also 9 hours into Rage, so I should be able to knock out the campaign in that this month also.

Bastion (multi)
Frozen Synapse (PC)
Psychonauts (multi?)

All of which I have started but I need to finish out or give up on (Frozen Synapse is really in danger of this happening)

Please add Captain America (360), Sherlock Holmes v Jack the Ripper (360), and Hulk Hogan's Main Event to my must complete in June pile.

Please mark me down for completing Once Upon A Monster for 360.

I seem to keep hitting walls and get nothing done throughout the month, viddygame-wise.

For which reason, I will keep Rayman Origins as my pick until I manage to actually get enough 'toons to get to the big baddy.

Let's hope I can actually do this soon.

Well....kind of already beat Bastion...that was amazing, just couldn't stop.

Technically it wasn't 3 months old on June 1 (June 6th is 3 months). It will be eligible for the pile next month.

I'm not sure if Binding of Isaac counts, since 1) I've already beaten it many times over, I'm just trying to beat all the possible end bosses with all the possible characters and 2) I'm playing it because of Wrath of the Lamb, which is brand new.

But that's my pile game this month!

That's two this month for me. Just finished Enslaved (multi) earlier than anticipated. I would have declared it here but I'm done with it. Quite enjoyable.

I'm going to be realistic in my expectations and say that I'll have Crysis 2 (multi) and Super Mario 3D Land (3DS) beaten this month.

Well, I didn't get a chance to add it to the pile thread at the beginning of the month, but I just burned through Max Payne 2 (multi), so that's at least one down. As for the rest of the month, I'm looking at:

Uncharted 3 (PS3)
Deus Ex: Human Revolution (multi)
Enslaved (multi)

Here's hoping I have another good month

Okay, calling Frozen Synapse abandoned.

While I can dig it a bit I guess, I don't find the single player compelling enough to continue. I will probably still play some MP games from time to time but I don't consider that to be a pile game or something that I will be "completing"

Started up Metro 2033 again, about 1/2 through now.

Adding some iOS goodness to my plate, Infinity Blade fell quickly, secret bosses and all, and am now very much getting deep into the sequel. Since I've been commuting quite a bit lately, Infinity Blade 2 should fall soon.

Beat Super Mario 3D Land's main story.

Summer vacation meant I made very little progress towards my past goals. But the good news is I was also able to put Diablo 3 down long enough to return to the pile.

Please put me down for the following:

The Old Republic (class quest)
Guild Wars Nightfall (GW 2 beta has gotten me fired up again to go back and try to finish this game)
Torchlight

Just took down EPOCH. on iOS.

Looks like the 'take it with me' pile will be seeing a lot of love with current conditions. Only time I seem to game now.

Just finished Machinarium (multi).

My run was on iOS, but I might just fire up Steam now and run through that version as well while it's all fresh in the brain.

Quite a cute little puzzler. Some of the solutions were a bit obtuse, thank Christ for that hint book mini-game in the corner.
